ajc, have you tried using a different browser?
I've just had my first problem in chrome. The preview shows were stuttery and unwatchable, changed to Firefox and its working great again.
Worth a go?
Otherwise they recommended rolling back the browser to an earlier version, or trying to disable different extensions you may have.
Came from their announcement to the share market last year.
Apparently the 55% number (of all NZ households) is very high world wide, Aussie is around 30%, mainly due to legislation which means big sports events must be shown on free-to-air networks...

Thanks for the tip. I was planning to try it with Firefox this week as I realise I have only used it with Chrome which I use for everything. Not hopeful for Firefox though as the reason I originally switched to Chrome was due to video issues with Firefox (things like TVNZ On Demand not working properly from memory). Worth a try.
Got a list of a few things to try so I'm hopeful something will sort it out. Will also try disabling all extensions, turning off virus protection and any other background things that don't need to be running. Have also realised I still had it running on the laptop screen aswell as TV so I wonder if that make's the computer work harder and affects it. Will change to projector display only so it only runs on the TV. That sounds like it could potentially be the issue.
It's a great service to get every game at such a good price and not have to worry about TV schedules and weather interference etc. It just seems such a nightmare to set it up to work properly so I imagine a lot of people less technical giving up because it's too much hassle and settling for the delayed Sky and Sommet games and live TV One game. It shouldn't be this difficult to be able to watch it on your TV. If I can sort out the stuttering and get the experience you have had then there's no looking back.
Also wonder if Chromecast could be an option if none of this works. Apparently it works with this by copying the URL of the video into the regular Chrome browser and mirroring it that way. You can get one for around $60 on Trademe at the moment so could be worth a gamble if buying new equipment is the only option (before resorting to the expensive options like an ipad or Samsung TV), and probably useful for other services (or easy to resell as new) if it doesn't work out. Anyone tried this method?
it is easy to use on a tv, just plugging an HDMI straight into tv, or use the samsung app. I reckon that's easier than the sky set up.
But yeah it's when something goes (or is) wrong that it can be more daunting. Ringing up PLP and then having them suggest fixes that you have to do yourself vs ringing up sky and them sending a technician round to fix the problem. Sky wins there. That's not to say PLPs help desk is bad, they were actually really helpful.
I had issues with Chrome and found it was much better with IE. Not sure whether that was for any particular reason, or whether I just happened to switch browsers around the same time that they started to iron out the kinks. But definitely noticed a difference.

Well yeah the actual plugging in of the cable is easy (technically not easier than Sky as you don't have to do any of that yourself), but getting it to work properly after that seems to be a major issue which I never had with Sky. Praying I can get it as good as you do this weekend. I don't even care about HD that much, SD and smoothe without headhache inducing judder would suffice. I only moved to HD in 2012 anyway after moving away from flatting and putting together my own setup. If only I'd gone for a Samsung instead of LG TV....
On a different note, I wonder how people with little kids or pets manage with the laptop on the floor in front of the TV.
I have my pc in the lounge with a 5m HDMI cable around the wall. Stops my 4yr old getting at it.

I believe the longer the hdmi cable that there is a degredation of the picture quality even if only slightly. I am using chrome on my Samsung Tab 3 and have watched the last three shows without any issues. I updated the chrome last week and touch wood, all appears ok thuse far.
Just went onto the site after uploading an update. One look at the table had me laughing. They have given Leicester City the QPR coat of arms logo as well as to QPR. Tee hee.
My patented death stare seems to keep my 2yo away from the floor laptop ajc28...
However the 10 month old will be a new challenge this season since she's just started crawling...
Somehow my computer mouse at home has survived the last few weeks since it was re-purposed as a "lasso" to be used when riding the rocking horse.
Heh, that's at least one problem I don't have. Can't wait for it all to get underway this weekend.

Hahahahaha! My iPhone speakers weren't working the other day, they sounded all muffled. Then I realised why when I walked in on my two year old dunking it in water and saying 'biscuits'.

So apparently there is an issue with Chrome at the moment and you should use Firefox. From PLP on Facebook:
There is an issue with Crome this season, we're trying to get to the bottom of it, we think it has somethin to do with their new Netflix plugin. Firefox is recommended for now.
have to say. You do think they would have tested the quality on different browsers before now instead of assuming it'd work like last season.
Guess they'll put it down as a lesson learnt for next season.
And apparently because of the expansion into Asia, kickoff times have to be listed in UK times on the website. Is it not possible for the site to determine the user's location and adjust times accordingly? If it's geoblocked to certain countries then they at least know what country you are in surely.

The whole thing does feel a bit quick and dirty aye? Like they're putting it together with bluetack and duct tape. Support is pretty responsive though, and they're not bad on the Twitter either.
Incredible stamina. No shame. Yellow Fever.

That's absolutely what it is. Did you read the article I posted a few pages back Smithy? Basically this company was 2 guys with someone else's cash backing them bidding for rights. They got the Premier League and then had to figure the whole thing out from scratch.
NZ territory is basically an experiment for going into the rest of Asia, so they don't actually care about making the NZ experience perfect (I don't think NZ alone is a viable business), just good enough to show that the thing works. They must know that SKY will be back in with a big bid next time round (think the rights were for 3 years) so this could all be over for them end of next season.
Normo's coming home
I thought 2 years as well. I hope two years only so it goes back to Sky next year (and yes I know we are at opposites Tegal)
Grumpy old bastard alert

Just curious, if this is an experiment for Asia and there are no real plans for the NZ Market in the future, why bother offering kickbacks to local football?

Typical old person response.

Didn't say there were no plans for NZ, what I believe is that NZ alone won't offer a viable business model - i.e they need more territories. There is big money behind this and they're not investing just to take a run at SKY in NZ. Long term that's difficult strategy when you have to re-bid for the rights every couple of years
Normo's coming home
Almost certain it was for 3 years...
Of course, it's just nice the PLP have purchased it, are making some money out of it (maybe) and we all get to watch football whenever we like.
"...sure beats doin' stuff."
I support Newcastle, so when SKY had the rights I saw bugger all games. Was sick and tired of watching the same 4 or 5 teams each week because they are the most popular ones. For me to watch the Toon each week, and maybe watch Utd lose (because that's almost as fun) is great. The Toon at Old Trafford last year was Birthday, Christmas, Anniversary and Father's Day all in one!
Yeah pretty certain it was for 3 seasons. Sky will presumably be making a monster bid to get it back.
I cancelled SKY last week and when asked why I said 'because you no longer have the English Football rights and the in-house Club TV stuff is rubbish'.
She said 'oh yes we have 'loss of English Football' as a reason, I'll put that down as your reason'
Would you have kept it if they still had Spurs TV this season (presumably you kept Sky last season)?
I'd do the same but I still want to watch Champions League, cricket, tennis, golf and A League. I watch very little on any channels other than the free ones anyway so it really is all about the sport, which I imagine it is for most people with Sky.

I have Sky for the Khardashians - that is all.

Just signed up for the free trial for the first week to do all my testing before paying out for the full subscription. Just playing around now I notice 3000kbps is the highest setting to choose for the videos currently on there. What happened for 4500kbps? Is it just not showing up for me or will it just be games that get that?

4500 is just for the games. I found 3000 is sufficient for the other videos as most of the time there is no/little game play in them
Cool thanks, I figured as much. Off to do some testing out with the TV now, although the real test will be the games on Sunday.

Actually we recently moved house and I cancelled mine under my name and signed up at the new place under my wife's name. Got the deal which includes free installation and 2 free channels for 12 months (I chose Sports and Soho). ;)
I couldn't stand not being able to watch the cricket (any cricket), the Nix, Breakers, Warriors, so I can't see Sky and I parting company anytime soon...
Ah good idea switching names at the new address to take advantage of the deals for new subscribers.
Anyway just tested out my list of ideas on the TV with some highlights of a game from last season. Chrome was about as I remember, Firefox a bit better and even better when connected to TV and I set the display to projector only instead of it running on both the TV and laptop. I thought this may affect it by making the laptop work harder to display it on 2 screens and it did make a pretty good improvement by setting it to only the TV screen. Not quite perfect but pretty good and a lot better than what I remember from last season. Was only old highlights on 3000kbps so the real test will be a full game at 4500kbps on Sunday but I'm a lot more positive about this now after that. Roll on Sunday.
