The Swansea v Spurs game was the best I've had on the iPad, no lag at all, HD pic, no annoying 'sign outs'.

Our different experiences once again show the difficulties of providing an online only service in NZ given the vauguries of NZ broadband

I have to say. PLP is a quality product now. HD, iOS support with airplay and being able to PiP is something I use alot usually have Arsenal going with either Chelsea or Man City in the corner. It's also great waking up on Sunday morning rolling over to grab the iPad and choosing what game to watch or just skim though the games involved in my multi or involving my fantasy league players.

Will get it again, will probably go for the next tier up which includes the highlights etc. Just hoping they can get La Liga and Serie A in the future. Or even just the big teams like Sky did, Juventus, Real, Barca etc.

Watched Spurs v Everton via Apple TV 'airplayed' from the iPad yesterday. Possibly the best experience I've had, not even for a second did the picture deteriorate, and it remained at 'HD' for the entire time. Couldn't really fault the picture, although it does always seem to have that 'internet feel' to the picture, where it's not quite as smooth as watching a game on Sky for instance, but is pretty damn close.

The only thing that annoys me really is the fact there is no 'fast-forward' button where you can watch the action unfold as you FF, just as you currently do now with MySky. I dont always have 2 hours spare to sit through an entire pre-match, game, post-match etc. I guess this is a platform limitation rather than anything else.

So I push the 30sec forward button which pauses the image and takes about 4-5 seconds to begin again 30 secs later in the game.

But this is an infinitely better system than when it began...

I don't suppose anyone here still has a 24hr pass that they'd be kind enough to spare me?

I've read through this entire thread over the last few days (phew) and I'm now really eager to see PLP in motion.

We got VDSL installed during the week, and can now watch live football at the 4500kbps bitrate. It is simply outstanding.

Crystal clear picture, no lagging, no stuttering. Just perfect.

Anyone have any tips...

When watching on my Samsung tab3 occasionally it will crash - the game will disappear and I'll just be left with the original screen from where you pick your games. I click on the game and it starts up again fine, sometimes it will play through to the end and sometimes it will crash a couple more times before the end.

I went to the app in applications manager and cleared the cache (because that seems to fix everything that happens at work lol) but still it happens.

What else can I do? I don't think this is an issue with PLP, I'm assuming it's my tablet, but guess I could be wrong? I considered 'clearing data' as well as cache but that seems risky for some reason - is it? Or can i do that too? Would it make a difference?

I had a similar issue when using my work laptop and I contacted PLP, they told me that I needed to re-install flashplayer as that was the problem, but I don't have permissions to do that on my work laptop so have just stopped using that. I thought maybe same problem with my tablet but the app would be different to using flashplayer wouldn't it?

Thank god my home laptop plays everything beautifully, but sometimes I prefer tablet if lying in bed...

Anyhoo, perhaps I should be going to PLP with this but thought I'd ask here as some of you are pretty proficient with these things... any advice much appreciated

I've given up on my tablet. It's quite an old iPad and is generally poor at picking up the wifi at home. When I use my phone its fine for highlights unless going through petone on the bus.

So maybe its a wifi issue? Have you tried from different points in your house to see if that makes it better or worse?

Will watch this space closely as I have a Samsung Galaxy Tab 3 10" too. Might well be tempted if QPR stumble their way up a division.

Thanks for the brainstorming... I have not been more than about 5m away from the router, and one time was sitting at the table about 1.5m from it and it happened there. Also when it happens and I re-click on the game, there is never any issue with it starting right back up again, so the internet performance must be ok.
Can anyone tell give me a yellow fever-style laymans breakdown on what clearing the cache and clearing data through the apps manager achieves, and what the risks are by doing that?

When you launch an app, there are certain pieces of data that get saved to your phone when you do things in the app. For example, the Fever app saves your username and a link to your avatar when you sign in, so that the app knows that it is you who is creating posts etc. The cache is slightly different, it saves things like pictures that have been downloaded from the internet to your phone, so that the next time that the app wants to show that picture, it can grab it from your phone instead of having to download it again, which saves time and data. Back to my Fever app example, it caches other people's avatars, so that when you view posts from people, it doesn't have to download every single persons avatar every single time.

Sometimes there is an issue with the data that has been saved to your phone, which can cause the app to malfunction. Clearing the data and cache removes all of this from your phone, and effectively returns the app to the state that it was in when you had just downloaded it. It is similar to uninstalling the app and reinstalling it, and therefore there are pretty much no risks at all involved with doing it.

Hope this helps, I'm happy to clarify anything if you need :)

Thanks Patrick, that is extremely helpful. I'm going to clear the data now and see if that helps things.

Not really a 'this' situation but you deserve a karma point so there you have it LOL

Thinking I'll probably get it this season. I didn't last season and stuck with Sky once Arsenal TV was announced. I have always recorded and watched as live when I got up in the morning rather than live in the middle of the night anyway so didn't mind the delay too much. But it got too frustrating as what was intitially promised by Sky didn't quite turn out. They said at the start games would be available from 1pm on Sundays which would have been ok, but then often they didn't come until late at night or sometimes even the next day so it became a full day of avoiding results rather than being able to watch the game before doing anything else. There was also an hour and a half of other stuff shown before the game aswell. Those features and interviews were good but would have been better after the game that you've waited all day for.

Also Sky originally promised all games would be available including cup games but this didn't happen. No cup or CL games were provided - I know FA Cup and CL were on ESPN anyway but not all the Arsenal games. I found out later in the season from Sky that both Arsenal and Spurs would only provide one game a week, so when there was a midweek game aswell as weekend we only got the weekend one. So a lot of the time I ended up either downloading the game or getting up in the night for a dodgy live stream anyway.

Can't really face doing that again so will probably bite the bullet and subscribe this season. Thinking of sharing it with my Dad, paying half each and we'll just coordinate not to be logged in at the same time. Shouldn't be too much bother as I'll only tend to watch the Arsenal games and he's retired and has plenty of time. I did try it a couple of times last season with free 24 hour passes and it wasn't great. Connected laptop to TV via HDMI and while the picture quality was good, there was a lot of motion judder and it almost felt like it was filmed on a handheld camcorder. Was fine on the laptop but I want to watch it on my big TV. I have tried various other streaming video with this method and haven't had the same trouble so there's nothing wrong with my equipment. Anyone got any tips on this? Is there anything I can tweak? Unfortunately I don't have any Samsung devices so the exclusive apps are no use to me. Hoping for a PS3/4 app to make it easier but they don't seem to be in the pipeline (and the deal with Samsung may prevent them anyway).

Interesting.

The season's only 3 weeks away. No marketing. No website updates. No communication with existing members.

Way to expand your customer base...

What price on a quick sale back to Sky in time for the season kick-off?

That would be christmas come early. Have always said this would happen, but think it may take two seasons. Since many here have an appetite for paying more and becoming poorer expect it to cost you however

Would be sad. Really enjoyed being able to watch any live game I wanted, or games whenever I wanted last season. The quality got better too once internet got upgraded (and there are faster speeds available now than last year yeah? plus unlimited broadband options)

The final round was a particular highlight of the service, the multiscreen really came in handy.

Wouldn't mind it going to sky if they did a similar quality of service as PLP. But at the moment, skygo is a joke. So they'd probably just put it on tv, delay most of the games, not even show some, and only really show the top 4 teams. Just like they used to do. Which would be a huge step down. Sky used to waste the rights, like they do with the rights to a lot of things.

I dont mind paying a bit extra for quality, and a bit extra more for all the highlight and preview shows. For me, its worth it. Others like AP will obviously feel differently, but thats the nature of any product - it won't be for everyone.

The current logins expire on July 31, so I assume that means new ones go up for sale on August 1st. Which still gives people over two weeks to purchase their subscription before the season starts, which is plenty of time.

I am exactly the same, a bit gutted that NFL GamePass is going to cost this year, but not going to stop me paying for it, the ability to watch all games live, up to 4 on a screen at once, and also being able to watch condensed versions of them the quality is much better,

I hope PLP is around again, definitely in this season.

once I a) stopped panicking in case it was all shit on our fairly crap broadband b) the season started c) watched a few games and PLP fixed a few things d) stopped flying into a childish rage if the preview show was late

it actually became a good experience - i loved being able to see every game (and was buzzed out by being able to watch mid-week games going to work on the bus)

I hope they are going to be around for a few more seasons (especially if we stay up!!)

So anyone got any tips on anything I could tweak to make it a better experience (ie, remove the judder that makes it look like it was filmed on a handheld camcorder) when connecting laptop to TV via HDMI? Doesn't happen with any other streaming service (and I watched Arsenal's pre-season game on Arsenal's online player this way yesterday with no issues) so I don't think my equipment is the issue. Any settings I could play around with?

Something I found early on, was setting it to a specific quality setting rather than "best available" helped. If you haven't already.

Found 4500 didn't have that stutter when the camera moved on a long shot.

Hmmm yeah I tried changing the quality and didn't really make any difference. Have also emailed their support and they just said it must be a problem with my equipment, (which I think can be ruled out by Arsenal Player, iSky/Sky Go, various others being absolutely fine using the same method, plus the HDMI cable being pretty new as it came with the PS4 which has had no issues with it) and they can send a tech support person around to look at my setup (which presumably would cost me a lot). Annoying because it looks really good on the laptop so don't understand why that doesn't translate properly to the TV. And I want to watch it on my big TV, not my laptop. Was hoping there were some settings on the computer that could make a difference.

Yeah season starts 16th August, so 2nd week of August is between 9 & 2 days from start of season. That is crazy late....

For contrast NFL GamePass is already asking for new sign-ups from July 1st (Season starts Sept 7)

if only the a-league was on a similar service, i would be able to cord-cut Sky.
