Had to watch it well played Benfica farking awesome display, if anything for us there were a lot of youngsters playing so they'll know now the level expected of them. Here's hoping we get through the next two games injury free and back to winning ways.

Righto off too Bolton, here's hoping we can take three points and leave with no new injuries, which maybe hard seeing as we're playing Bolton and they love a tough physical game

Felli's goal was a cracker so was Saha's simply superb, shame we gave up the 3rd we battled pretty hard all game and the last thing we needed was Heitenga to limp off injured and Tim Cahill too limp on throughout the last 10 or minutes as well. we'll end up having to field a youth squad for the Carling cup I reckon

Yea don't really have choice to field anyone else.

Heitinga was just cramp so he'll be fine. Cahill is not listed as injured but pretty much everyomne else is :-( Bring out the kids this week and give them some exposure without the pressure of prem league or FA Cup.

Its no longer a problem.

Its no longer a problem.

I know Hetinga is cup tied for the Europa League but why cant Lucas Neil play? Hibbert cant even play right back let alone in the middle. I know wev got a heap of injurys but that game against Benfica was a f**kn embarrasment!

Pretty much a blessing in disguise losing. Our squad can't really afford to play these extra games considering the current injury crisis. Besides, it is the league cup...

man we were poor today especially the 2nd half, good goals from Benfica.

West Ham this weekend gotta grab 3 points

Tim Howard - 8 - Made two excellent saves to deny Saviola in the first half, another from Di Maria in the second, and his handling was very good in difficult conditions.

Tony Hibbert - 5 - Struggled against the lively Di Maria, and his distribution was poor. As honest as the day is long, but out of his depth against class opposition.

Sylvain Distin - 5 - Cardozo is a tough customer, and he rattled Distin a few times with his aerial strength, leading to some poor defending from the Frenchman. Also missed Everton's best chance late on.

Joseph Yobo - 5 - Mopped up fairly well, but his positioning from crosses was not great and Cardozo was very much on top in the aerial duel.

Leighton Baines - 6 - Very neat and tidy on the ball, as ever, but failed to stop a torrent of quality crosses from his flank, though at times he was doubled up on.

Jack Rodwell - 7 - This lad looks a great prospect, tackles well, passes well and looks like he has a hammer in his right foot. Made a few mistakes, but was always demanding the ball and getting the crowd going with his strong challenges.

Marouane Fellaini - 4 - Took up some useful positions off Yakubu, but his quality was awful. Careless passing cost his side on numerous occasions and he was a passenger as the pace of the game picked up.

Dan Gosling - 5 - Looked nervous from the first minute, and as a result made the wrong decision in possession too often. The crowd were audibly frustrated with the youngster, which did not help matters. Was withdrawn 20 minutes from the end after a chastening evening.

Tim Cahill - 5 - Had one sniff of goal in the first half, but on the whole was very ineffective. Needs to be in the box to have an impact, and he was unable to get in there often enough

Diniyar Bilyaletdinov - 7 - Another who looks a class act. His left-footed crossing was exemplary, and he kept possession for his side well.

Yakubu - 5 - Still looks a way short of full fitness, but made space for himself well. Was booked for an ugly challenge early on and faded from the game as Benfica took control.

SUBSTITUTES

Jo - 6 - Brought on as Everton chased the game, but was starved of the ball.

Kieran Agard - N/A - Late replacement for Yakubu.

New for the West Ham game:

Everton winger Diniyar Bilyaletdinov is suspended.

Having been sent off last weekend against Aston Villa, he was able to play in the Europa League home defeat by Benfica, with the domestic ban starting at West Ham.

Former West Ham captain Lucas Neill and Dutchman John Heitinga, both ineligible for the Benfica game, come back into the squad but Louis Saha (calf) could miss out.

Tony Hibbert returned for the European match after flu but Everton will still be without long-term injured players Phil Neville, Phil Jagielka, Mikel Arteta, Steven Pienaar, Victor Anichebe, James Vaughan and Leon Osman.

Its no longer a problem.

I'm still waiting on the phone call from Moyes, so don't be blaming me!

Apparently I'm apathetic, but I couldn't care less.

lol, hardly a thumping! They should've scored 3 or 4 times...still, at least we didn't have to dive to win a penalty to secure a home draw against Birmingham!

That redsh*te pen was as shocker. Carsley (who we all know is a true Blue legend) never go close to him. Ngog should be done for that.
