So who else does he get rid of?

Babel? Itandje for sure. Degen? Plessis?

Yep, exactly the four I have on my list. Babel should fetch at least 8m I imagine (Could be useful in a team like Everton) The only other one I would consider is maybe Reira. Yossi has proved himself this season and more than makes up for the others. Not sure what Degen and Plessis are worth, 5m each? Itandje, .99c...

38-40m to spend?

A little outside the box thinking: We need to plug a bit of a gap on the left, how about a couple of targets like Lukas Podolski or Bastian Schweinsteiger? In particular, Podolski?

I think Lukas Podolski has signed for F.C Koln, but I'm not sure

Yeah your right, a quick Google confirmed. 10m Euro transfer. Cheap as chups...

I'm gonna watch the game later tonight, so I won't comment too much. Just want to say well done to Torres for his 50th Liverpool goal- amazing. And, of course, to Sami. A brilliant, brilliant player. Legend for this club, on and off the pitch. All the best and hope to see you in two years time, big la'!

Squad depth is the thing we lack so we need players who can come off the bench to change games and be part of the squad rotation. One big reason United beat us in the league was because they had big games from subs like Tevez, Giggs and Macheda.

Keane was suppose to be that different option that could play in certain games and come in when our original formation wasn't breaking down the opposition as was Babel's and Benayoun's role too. With only the later successful at filling that role.

So is the thinking that Riera will no longer be the main left option and him moving to a more squad/sub role.

i was surprised to hear that today was torres' 50th liverpool goal..after the 30 something he got last year i thought he would've gone past that a while ago.

He was sensational last season - 33 in all competitions, including 24 in the league. Injuries have played a part this year - still, 17 goals is still not bad, including 14 in the league.

Incidentally, Stevie got 24 this season and 21 last season....from midfield.

The penalty spot is hardly midfield.

Fair comment. The way I see it is that we have the bench/sub players but not the mainstay. I think Reira can work off the bench if we keep him but he seems to be following in Babel's footsteps...

The penalty spot is hardly midfield.

Stevie likes playing full...

Fair enough.  Take out 11 penalties.  Point still valid.

yeah i was just surprised that torres only scored half as many goals this year.
maybe adebayor isn't so bad after all - he scored 15 this year from a couple less performances than torres

I think that's the fastest 50 for Liverpool too. Quicker than Kenny and Ian Rush.

Yep, quicker than King Kenny, Owen, Aldridge, God or Rush. Amazing achievment.

Can't see us getting rid of Riera, not if we get rid of Babel. Who would that leave to play down the left, Aurelio? Dossena? No, that would leave us too thin there. Babels been given a good chance and hasn't pushed on from an ok first season. Riera has only been here a season. Give him one more to improve and then ship him if he doesn't. The only possibility would be if we bought to fill that role. Silva could play there but he says he wants to stay at Valencia and even if he moved Real are also interested. Sounds too expensive. Especially if Rafa wants both Tevez and Barry (which it sounds like he does).

Also read this from Rafa:
"The Liverpool manager has also re-iterated he does not want to sell Xabi Alonso, insisting that funds for transfers can instead be raised by offloading Anfield's fringe players and those out on loan.

Benitez has admitted to a ''private'' conversation with Alonso's agent, but said: ''Xabi is not for sale, we want to keep the key players here. The spine of the team.

''We will want to sell other players, maybe those who are out on loan. We do not want to sell key players.''"

Yeah I read that too. Voronin and Co = bye bye. I'm happy for Reira to stay but think Babel needs to move on (also to raise funds). Tevez is an interesting one because he's stated that he doesn't want to be a bench player, he wants regular starts. Can't see him ahead of Torres any time soon which would leave him on the bench or filling in for injuries. I don't know about Barry either, maybe I'm just a little over Barrygate...

Meh. Wasn't Mr Roger Hunt quicker? Here's to the next 50 anyway!

50 goals is sensational for him, given that he's been injured or returning from injuries for large periods of the season. And he was incredible in the first half in the United and Real games, in particular, with those vital goals against Chelsea. "If only" Torres had been fit. I think Owen and all them, its hard because they were just kids when they started, he's in his peak.

Riera should stay, yeah. He's a genuine winger. Babel should probably go, unless he is prepared to work really hard when he is given the chance.

Meh. Still pretty impressive for a midfielder. I think we are seeing the most complete midfielder in the world at the peak of his powers. Incredible player. And he just needs to look at a certain Owen to see how things could have turned out.

Guess the CL final means nothing to you now either. By tomorrow you would have forgotten you were even in it...

Back to relevant L'Pool news:
Rafa Benitez is reported to have told winger Ryan Babel he is free to talk to other clubs about a possible 11million move from Liverpool.

Talk of a possible straight swap with Barry - Thoughts? I think I'd rather use the money to get key players first. The likes of Silva/Tevez maybe.

Maybe you're getting used to being here so you're ready to jump ship when manure start losing.
