How 'bout this one then. Alberto Aquilani from Roma. The only reason you would buy him is if you were selling Alonso.

https://soccernet.espn.go.com/news/story?id=661394&cc=3888

It may be tosh but what a deal that would be: Alonso for Negredo, Sneijder and enough money to buy Silva. Throw in Aquilani on top.

Ooh, I think I need a cold shower!

I think it would be best to let Alonso go and cash in, why keep a player who really dosnt want to be there, surely it would affect their game and we wouldnt get 100%, and with the world cup coming up at the end of the season that would probably be his main focus. No good to us.

Seems many are resigned to losing Alonso. Are barring a dramatic formation change, that moves Lucas in to the starting line up. Rumours have been floating round that we are going after Silva, but without Alonso a central midfielder is more pressing.

Read people suggesting Gerrard to move back a bit, also playing Agger as a Defensive midfielder to capitalise on his shooting ability more.

Vienna 1 - 0 LFC

Saw a little bit online this morning having breakfast. Looked to be a run for the reserves. Yossi was running the show up front while it looked like Pacheco and Kuyt were giving a bit of support. Babel and Ngog (I think) looked a bit lost. Skrtl looked good at the back, same with Spearing. Masch came on late but a bit too late to make a difference.

No spanish players took part (that I saw) although someone was running around in Alono's 14 shirt. I'm almost positive it wasn't him. None of the players had names, just numbers and I was trying to remember all the reserves...

The Spanish players aren't back at training yet due to Confeds cup.

Latest rumour is we're trying to buy Ashley Young from Villa 'cos it's going to be too hard to get Silva.

Yeah, but they were at the match, Xabi included. Not a great result, but simply a run around for them. They are all off to Asia now, no?

I still fancy a chance of keeping Alonso, but it does seem that we'll sell him. Young, meh.

Spearing played left-back I hear as Johnson was injured ("just a precaution"). He sounds well versatile then. That Pacheco kid is class! And also hear Yossi took a bit of a knock? Although I think he was alright in the end. Disappointing to hear about Babel then.

Yup. The man is pure class- a real pro. I think he is happy enough here, but wouldn't mind a move to Real either. I, personally, hope he stays, but I'm sure there are those who would rather cash in.

Looks like Voronin is back to stay and Rafa said this morning on BBC that there maybe one or two more signings
Permalink Permalink

Babel & Force don't go together... It's called an oxymoron. Emphasis on moron.

Voronin is a cheap backup in case of injuries. Given Yossi's form he'll be Torres' and Gerrard's #2.

Plenty of Gerrard's pub boxing escapades in the news too. Hopefully it all gets sorted before the start of the season.

Given Xabi said he was not going to force the transfer I'd say it's likely he will stay. It would take a Galactico offer from Madrid for Rafa to sell when Alonso seems happy either way. I can't see Madrid upping their offer much more.

Hopefully the extra signings aren't more teenagers, I think we have enough to develop right now...

Don't think he's ever go to those clubs... Would only be worried by Barca, Real, Juve, Inter, Milan and maybe Valenica.

Also when we gonna see a avatar change.

Gerrard bar 'brawl' video CCTV footage

Looks quite bad, looks like Gerrard holds the guy down and hits him twice. But not sure what charges for Affray are like, fines and community service?
Permalink Permalink

I didn't realise the other guy punched Gerrard first... Apparently if it's your first offence, affray is usually a community services type thing.

Psh. There are worse punches thrown at our school and nothing happens! Crazy, that kind of stuff happens all the time. I'm not advocating, but I think it is all over the top. Just give him a fine and let him go. Hopefully Pacheco can rip Thailand apart! And the Spanish boys should get a run out, although I hear Yossi is still out. What time is it on over here?

LFC 1-1 Thailand
The legend of Babel lives on... great pass from Caragher.
Sounds like Skrtel got injured too, hopefully it's not too bad.

Thanks mate. I'm hoping we keep them both. I agree, I thought the Masch drama was over, but it looks like it is back. I'm sick of this. This is arguably the best chance we have had of winning the title in 20 years, and now we have two VITAL players wanting to leave? Xabi, I can almost understand, but Masch. Where's the loyalty at? He hasn't won anything with us yet...

I'm not sure how serious Skrtel's injury is. Decnt goal from Babel, that. But the Thai goal was great too! Off to Singapore now?

Sweet. He also scored a goal for the Reserves a couple of hours later in their match against Tranmere.

Now, if we can just sort out the Alonso/Masch saga we'll be ready for the new season.

SINGAPORE (AP) -Liverpool manager Rafa Benitez has urged Xabi Alonso to stay at the club, indicating he is not resigned to losing the midfielder to Real Madrid.
At a training session Friday ahead of Sunday's friendly against Singapore, fans waved banners and chanted for Alonso to remain with Liverpool. A group of 21 fans lined up in the stands wearing shirts that spelled out, 'Xabi, please don't leave' in Spanish.

"I told him that he could hear the fans yesterday,'' Benitez said Saturday. "I said to him, 'Maybe you have to stay.'''
"Clearly, my idea is he's a very good player and we'll be really pleased if he stays.''

Real Madrid are thought to be eager to sign Alonso, but on Friday also completed the signing of midfielder Esteban Granero from Getafe. Granero is a player in a similar mould to Alonso, both noted for passing accuracy and shooting.

During the preseason Asian tour, Benitez had also been forced to fend off fresh talk of the departure of defensive midfielder Javier Mascherano./I]

How did you know that, were you there?  No, of course you weren't.  He may have been innocent of affray, but he was still guilty of a vicious assault regardless of the reasons.  Sure he got off, but he hasn't come out of this looking good in my opinion.  He's also old enough to know better.  Shameful day for Stevie G and yet again a high profile footballer has shown where his brains really are.  I admire him enormously as a player, but he's really just an ignorant Twit like so many more of these over paid morons.  Jose's Dog2009-07-26 09:26:07

Great reply. You are quite right. Have seen A CCTV clip on the news and Steve did lash out.

Good win this morning. 5-0 The lads look good in the new black strip.

Goal Highlights
Goals: Voronin (44), Riera (53), Nemeth (74), Torres (78), Nemeth (83)
Some good work by Kuyt, I think he setup about three of those goals.

I see Nemeth was wearing the #7...

I'm getting a lil' tired of the constant daily orgie that is Transfer City. Time for a small dose of realism and first game anticipation...

Taking our current squad (including Alonso/Masch and no speculative Silva) how do we see the line up for the first game against Tottenham? I believe Arbeloa is the only one out injury wise for a couple of months?

          Torres
             Gerrard
Reira                    Kuyt
        Alonso Masch
Aurelio   Skrtel Carragher Johnson
           Reina

Bench:
Voronin, Benny, Lucas, Insua, Agger, Babel

Thoughts?

Yip, sure thing. He's been a well-behaved, professional for his entire career and the one time he does something 'wrong' you think he's an ignorant Twit? I could understand why you wouldn't like him, but come on... A few punches. Honestly, the over-reaction! And dont talk to me about role models, look at Ronaldo cuddling up to Paris Hilton- that's a worse example than standing up for yourself!!

Yeah, 5-0, that's more like it. Good to see Nemeth get some goals, and how about that ball from Pacheco to Kuyt for the last one? Quality!! Kuyt came on and was class. Good to get a run around and some goals, good to see Xabi back playing, we can only hope that continues for the rest of the season and beyond!

Decent line-up, that. Think Yossi might be worth some more time, but nevertheless, Riera has been a good addition. Would still like to see a back-up forward brought in, as well as a 'world-class' left-sided player, although I don't have names.

And Xabi and Masch staying...!!!!!

very decent lineup that. If you get lucky with injuries there's no telling what could come of this season... gotta keep those mids!

I do worry about your depth at striker though. Can voronin do the business?

Never seen pacheco but i've heard a lot of you guys talking up this kid - class act? Will we see him in the prem this year or is he still developing?

Yeah line up is the same as last year, just Glen Johnson coming in. Really need to keep hold of... well you know, enough been said.

Wanting to see how Krisztin Nmeth, not sure how much of a prospect he is. But he scored amazingly well at all levels. But then again so did Neil Mellor and Nemeth will probably be loaned away. But yet to play for first team.

I wonder if any other Youth team/reserve guys will progress into the rotation Spearing, Darby, Plessis, Insua could move into El Zhar type role. Also to see if N'Gog will progress.

'Make or break' seasons Babel and Dossena (if he stays, and even if he does I feel he could still move on next summer or Jan)

Insua is good enough to be first choice, just about. He is brilliant. Nemeth was really good a couple of years ago for the reserves, but he has struggled this year (largely due to injury, to be fair).
