We are 6 points behind already after all the pre season hype....gutted. Still if I am not mistaken, Manure have always been slow starters? Lets hope that we can build. Aquilani could make a difference in Midfield and take out Lucas..here's hoping or dreaming

We tend to draw or lose ONE match early on in the season, in the one's that we go on to win the title at least. I think the 'slow' start is more to do with the style of football we play, takes a while for us to get going.

Losing at home can't be that good though, Villa are a quality team and could upset a few teams away with their quick fowards.

The problem for Liverpool (and United to an extent, losing to Burnley) is that Chelsea have one all their opening games, the first two when they were losing, and the first one in the last minute. They've had all the early luck, and could easily keep on winning. Can't really say too much about the Arse or even Man City yet, have to presume based on previous years that they will slowly drift out of the title picture.

Long way to go, but so far, Chelsea are the one's that worry me so far. Anyway, that's my ramblings for the day. Apologies if you decided to read it!

Liverpool have today confirmed Hungarian duo Krisztian Nemeth and Andras Simon will spend the 2009-10 season out on loan.
Nemeth has joined Greek side AEK Athens until the end of the campaign, while Simon will spend the term with Spanish club Cordoba CF.

The strike pair originally arrived at Anfield from MTK Hungaria in the summer of the 2007 after impressing in the previous year's UEFA U17 Championships.

Nemeth was included in the first team's tours of Switzerland and Asia this summer, and the 20-year-old helped himself to two goals in the 5-0 victory over Singapore last month.

I stand by my observation; it is entirely independent of me being a THFC supporter...the Villa result should be testament to that And let's not forget I did imply that 3 games do not a season make (sadly!) HarryHotspur2009-08-26 19:57:51

Yeah, and last season it was us with all the luck and we didn't go on to win the League. So I don't worry! Villa really weren't that good. We just made bad mistakes at "crucial times". They defended well, don't get me wrong, but they rode their luck at times during the second half.

Also, Lucas wasn't great, but he wasn't that bad. Cut the lad some slack. He bossed the game against Stoke, and Masch was bossing it against Villa. And INsua...what a little player we have on our hands.

Good for Nemeth, that.

And thank you for such a quality, reasonable post Mr Paulinho! And 'Arry, if three games made a season, you would have been relegated years ago!! But yeah. I can see where you're coming from.

Finally popped my Anfield cherry, just a pity the boys had an off night. Still, managed to see (and go completely nuts to) a decent goal, and had a blast chanting my arse in the Kop.

Will definately, 100% be back.

Lyon, Fiorentina and Debrecen in thr Champion's League. Decent group, and we haven't played any of them before? So should prove a tough test, but some good away days there!

Jealous @ Milky

Could be a tough draw, Lyon and Fiorentina should give us a good run. Happy days though, CL is back!

My biggest football disappointment (apart from the many, many related to Spurs) was my first time on the Kop, before seating. Playing Arsenal (guess who I was supporting?) , first game after having lost the league to Micky Thomas, and the Kop was like a morgue. So dull I can't even remember the score.

Good to get a win, but still conceding soft goals. Still controlling games but not dealing with the odd attack every now and then. And to be honest at times we were like this last season... Arsenal and Middlesbrough. Johnson again on the score sheet and the usual suspects.

I see a trip to Elland Road for Carling Cup too.

I feel (hope) that things are coming together. There were loads of opportunities and on another day we could have scored heaps. I am looking forward to Aqualani coming in for Lucas. Should add something different to our attack as well.

Not sure what's going on at the moment. Lack of confidence?

I think we just need to keep working hard, scrape out for the win. It may not be pretty footy but if we can keep our head above water over the next month things might start to pan out better. Where's Freud when you need him?

Good riddance.

An exciting game to say the least! Davis had to go, I don't know what the fuss is all about. Gerrard's goal was brilliant, a sublime finish. And Johnson was great too- very promising start and looks to be a good signing for us. Zat Knight made me so angry when he went up to Torres. Important to get the three points, now it is the international break?

Leeds away, not ideal, but not too bad.

Yep, international break. Burnley on Sunday 13th. I suspect it will the Reserves v Leeds, I'd imagine Rafa will be focusing on the EPL and CL this season.

Liverpool's Ryan Babel has admitted he is keen to join former club Ajax on loan in January and has accused Rafa Benitez of failing to keep promises regarding his first team chances.

Frustrated Reds forward Babel eyes Ajax return

I knew we should have cashed in over the summer! Now he wants out on a loan in January. Ryan, if you performed to your ability on a regular basis you wouldn't be warming the bench.

I am pretty much over this now. The list of players that get on the wrong side of Rafa grows longer.... Seriously do other clubs have as many disgruntled players as us? Alonso, Crouch, Arbeloa, Keane, all players who reportedly grew frustrated at Rafa (there are probably more).  Alonso loved the club and would have stayed (supposedly) but left because he didn't feel valued etc. Anyone else feel like this or is it just me being grumpy?

Permalink Permalink
over 16 years ago · edited about 5 years ago · History
Just you being grumpy, mate! Carragher, Gerrard, Torres, Reina, Mascherano and Insua are all what they are today purely because of him. Well, okay, not purely, but you get the idea. Torres is one of the best forwards in the world, Masch came from rotting in the reserves of West Ham to becoming the best ball-winner in the world. Etc. Arbeloa, if I'm not mistaken, left because of family reasons, and even stayed on the extra season for Rafa. Keane wasn't Rafa's signing and therefore was part of a statement of power! Alonso is gone and, for all the respect I have for the man, I want to see Alberto and Lucas bossing the show.

Alonso might have loved the club, but despite having a great season last year, the previous 2 he was garbage. Thats what led to Rafa trying to sell him. As for Crouch, he was coming to the end of his contract and wanted regular football so had to be sold, Keane was bought by Parry and never stood a chance and Arbeloa's days were numbered when he fell out with Carra for being too laid back on the ball, only one winner there!!
Permalink Permalink
over 16 years ago · edited about 5 years ago · History
Don't really agree whole-heartedly that he was garbage! He had injuries, was caught on the ball a few times, but was still a classy footballer. To be fair, he was nowhere near the player he was last season, where he was simply outstanding. Arbeloa was gone once we lost the League, anyhow, in terms of his head. That's probably why Carra was so annoyed with him, for not caring and that! And yeah, that's right about Crouch and Keane. Btw, welcome Rednumber9!
Permalink Permalink

Cheers El-Kun. Ok maybe garbage was a bit strong, but after the first season, were i dont remember him giving the ball away once! The next two were a slow downwards spiral into mediocrity and he slipped in and out of games too much. Rafa trying to sell him was the kick up the backside he needed. To be fair, cant blame either Rafa or Alonso in this, both were looking after their own interests, just wish him well at Real Madrid unless we get them in the Champions league of couse!!
Permalink Permalink
over 16 years ago · edited about 5 years ago · History
Yeah, that's fair enough. He was outstanding in his first and last seasons for us. And, as you say, can't blame either of them. Unfortunately, I won't wish him well at Madrid, because I despise them! But he still has my respect, which is about the most I could give to any Madridista.

Good win, not sure how much we can take away from this game because we just strolled around Burnley today. Benayoun will be particularly happy picking up hat-trick. Worryingly, Torres hasn't really been playing very well so far this season, misplaced passes and often a poor touch has made him look fairly average at times. Still scored 3 goals so far, but I want more from him.

Sounds like a good win. I didn't see the game but was a little surprised not to see Torres on the score sheet. Have to agree though so far this season he's been a bit flat.

Excellent shirt deal! Not sure I like the logo/brand but I guess that's what happens when Calsberg is ingrained in your mind...

Yossi was brilliant today. Absolute class. In regards to Torres, he was below par today but, as the commentator said, if we can win 4-0 without him playing well that's all good. There'll be other days and nights for the lad. He's still scored a few. Can't believe you're having a go at Torres!! Gerrard's run when he hit the post was awesome too- hugely unlucky. And that first goal was brilliant from Yossi. Even Degen made a solid appearance and Voronin should have scored! Burnley were pretty disappointing to be honest. The BEAST made a few good saves though, although he should have done better with Kuyt's goal. Meh, not sure I like that, but ah well. Money makes the world go round.

Dear Sir,

I apologise for my regretful outburst at Fernando Torres. I make no excuses for my foul mouth but alas I posted pre-morning coffee.
I retract my last statement and wish Nando all the best for the future.
