This has snuck up fast! Champions league begins for us on Thursday morning:

19:45 UK @ Anfield
Liverpool v Debrecen

Haven't the foggiest clue about our Hungarian foe. I just hope we can make a good solid start at home. I'm looking at your Torres

Heard some rumours that Spirit of Shankly are gonna kick it all off with some protests or something?

Anyway, it'd be nice to have a comfortable win, with a pretty tough game this weekend. A Torres hatrick in the first half and give him a rest for the second! He's probably not getting enough sleep because of his kid...

1-0

Didn't get to see any of the game. At least we have a clean score sheet at home.
(Bet there were a few squeaky bums down in London though...)

The game is on now, I think. Gonna watch it with my dad and brother later, but good to get a win. The most important thing. Not as comfortable as I would have hoped, mind!!

Good to get a win today, but again sloppy at the back. Torres was sublime, first goal was pure class. Second to win the game was a great header.

Bad penalty given by Carragher, albeit harsh, and a miss hit that technically shouldn't have been given, since he hit it twice. Didn't cost us so I doubt much will be made of it. Also, our near post defending on corners has been poor so far this season.

Also got to give Babel some praise, came on and set up the winner as well as generally looking dangerous.

Is exactly right. Masch and Lucas did well. That Parker lad played well too. Torres was magnificent- see him tracking back right at the end and making that tackle? Pure class. I love him. Brilliant goals too. And at last Babel seemed to be trying!!

Nice work lads. Good comeback at the end. Only saw the highlights but it was great to see Nando back in form. Long may it continue!

Oh and thanks Ryan, um yeah, thanks

We are in the hunt. Good to shake off some of the pre-season misery! Any news on Aqualani?

I heard he's going to start running soon. Meh, Lucas has been good enough anyway! Nah, I hope Alberto does well.

Good to see Ngog on the scoresheet, a cleansheet and through to the next round. Overall, a good birthday for me!!

Happy Birthday man, yeah a good result not sure about performance, anyway most important thing is to get through.

Happy birthday el-kun

Got out of jail in a big way last night, thought Leeds played really well and were unlucky to have the goal scrubbed off. Snodgrass and Beckford were superb for them and it was no coincidence that it all came down our left side, with Dossena and Riera giving their usual inept performances. The only good things to come out the game was Spearing doing well in midfield and Ngog showing he is learning how to hold the line up front, be interesting to see who we get in the next round...

I read last night the FA are investigating Masch after an alleged hit on Beckford. I doubt it will come to anything, it's more likely to be a bitter Elland Rd pill...TheKop2009-09-24 10:30:19

Thanks lads. Haha, Dossena... Oh boy! I thought he was coming alright at the back end of last season but obviously not. Good news that Ngog is doing well. Scored the winner against the Mancs (reserves) the other day so good to see he is building and improving. And also good to hear Spearing is doing well too.

Not great about Masch. Does anybody have a video of it? We couldn't see the game over here so I haven't seen it but heard it was pretty stupid. Leeds manager took it well, I think.

Check this out: BBC SPORT.

Liverpool manager Rafael Benitez faces a battle to keep pace with the biggest clubs in Europe as leaked documents reveal that his net summer spending is locked at 20m until 2014. That figure also includes wage increases.

Yeah saw that, sounds absolutely stupid. Includes wage increases too. Maybe this board being against him will create a Valencia type situation where he wins leagues and cups while getting a "lamp" ;)

Hahaha. Hull at home this weekend. We need to win this! I don't know about those articles and all that. But I know we need to get the Yanks Out! I hear that Gillett is going to be at Anfield tomorrow too.

Saw this article here about how we conceded goals so far this season. Shows where we are conceding this year.

Good win this morning, Torres was absolutely amazing. Been on fire since I said he was struggling a bit. Even Babel grabbed a double. 6-1.

And Wigan beat Chelsea and Cech was sent off so he may miss our match against them.

I particularly enjoyed Torres last and this brilliant goal from Babel.

All of Torres' were pure quality. Superb player. Gerrard's and Babel's last were pretty lucky, but oh well. We'll take them. Champion's League and then Chelsea away this week. It is going to be a big month for us.

Hull are pretty average huh? Still great to get a good result like that

More good news maybe?

Liverpool co-owner George Gillett was in talks on Saturday night about selling a 25 per cent stake in the Anfield club to an Arab prince in a deal worth 125million.

Sunday Mirror Sport understands that Gillett has met with Prince Khalid al-Faisal and members of of the Saudi royal family about investment opportunities at Liverpool.

Discussions initially began about various commercial projects but quickly progressed into talks aimed at bringing the prince in as a co-owner to work alongside Gillett and his fellow American Tom Hicks.

Any share deal would require the blessing of Hicks before it could be rubber-stamped. And although Hicks is yet to meet personally with Prince Khalid, it is understood that the Texan is ready to welcome a new partner if the terms of the deal are right.

Brilliant! Have to watch out for that.

Good win by the lads. It was great to see we didn't take the foot off and fade towards the end. Babel seems to be finally finding himself, maybe the kick up his ar$e worked. Loved Gerrard's goal, flukey or not it was a pearler!

Also good to see Chelsea finally slip. All the big teams are going to do it this season. It's gonna be tight.

28 th Oct, repeat of FA youth cup final for the Carling cup, or will you guys need your full strength squad to overcome our kids?
Permalink Permalink
over 16 years ago · edited about 5 years ago · History
Our kids won't beat your kids. But, given its between United and Fulham away games for us, I think we'll get knocked out. Especially at your place.

I expect more fringe players to play, but also some young players. I would think Cavalieri, Dossena, Degen, Kyrgiakos, Plessis, Spearing, El Zhar and N'Gog would be in the team. Either way not too fussed about League Cup.

The latest news is that the Saudi prince is looking for a 50% share in the club with the price being in the region of 200-300 million, it seems Gillett is ready to throw his hand in (finally!) after the latest protests against him and Hicks. Will be interesting to see how developments go.
As for the carling cup game against the gunners, i think Rafa will play a few more of the bigger names in the game, and Wenger will do the same.

Still can't believe what happened this morning... I was trying to watch online but couldn't get a decent stream. I'm glad. Goes to show when it comes to the CL even supposed easy beats like Fiorentina can lift their game. Gargh. TheKop2009-09-30 12:02:16

Didn't see match so won't comment on performance, very disappointing to lose though. Don't think you can consider Fiorentina easy beats, they were one of the better teams in Italy (obviously, with qualifying for CL) but having players like Gilardino, Mutu, Gamberini, Montolivio... I guess they lost Felipe Melo from last season, but I thought they would be the next best team in our group.

I wouldn't ever call a quality side like Fiorentina easy beats. Pretty disrespectful there TheKop.

Three for me, and two for them.
