WELLINGTON REDS

LFC v Newcastle

Come and join us on Saturday night for the replay of the last game of the 13/14 season as we take on a resurgent Newcastle side at St James Park. Parking the bus and scoring with both of their 2 shots on goal punished Spurs on the weekend. Here's hoping we can take confidence from our last gasp win v Swansea just now in the Capital One Cup and kick on in the league, starting this Saturday.

We'll be at Four Kings again for the 1:45am Kick Off and with Geordie rounding up his crew there should be a few Newcastle fans turning up. Would be great if we could turn up en masse and show them how it's done.

A reminder too about the Loyalty Cards, if you want drink specials at this game (and those going forward) you will need to show one if these to bar staff. They can be purchased from me on the night. More info here:

Any questions please let me know.

Well two massive games ahead away to Madrid and home to Chelsea. The way I feel about Liverpool i'm expecting two losses but I wonder if the pressure is off a little we will play better and scab a result. Wishful thinking but it's what we've got at the moment!

Haha yeah sharke times eh?!

Lacking confidence, cohesion, ideas and goals right now. Seriously hoping we don't just get flat out embarrassed tomorrow. Can't watch live yet fudgeing again, so hoping to get through the day with no spoilers.

Fingers crossed for any sort of result!

Rodgers fielding a weaker side than normal. Away to Real Madrid. Thoughts?

Havent posted for a while , Jr  has been very sick again which takes priority.

This team up against RM this am is a disgrace. If you were one of the better players in the team , how would you feel not being picked for a game against arguably the world's best current club side at the Bernabeu? Just ever so slightly disappointed or completely gutted? Toure vs Ronaldo? Markovic vs anyone? FFS , they'll do well do avoid getting completely mothered.

I've got more thoughts on the season so far  , none extremely optimistic. I'll post them later when I've a bit more time.

But I think we may be mauled this morning and on the basis of the team Rodgers has sent out , deservedly so.

This is going to backfire enormously if we get thumped by 5 and then miss qualification on goal difference.

Better performance than last time, toothless up front and defending too deeply, giving Real lots of opportunities.

I'm not sure what i said that pushed your buttons Buffon (I tend to let stuff go), or why you feel a need to questions anyone's fan-ship or the way they support their own team (pessimists vs optimists vs realists) but maybe '"keep your virtue" as your pretentious footer suggests and conduct yourself with honour and respectability.

[Edit]: On the team, it takes 30 players to challenge in the UCL when you consider all competitions LFC are still in or need to compete in. Any player, at any top flight club should be able to take the field and make a good fist of it. While not the team I would have selected, I don't know enough about the reasoning behind it and will continue to trust a manager who make such progress last season until I see something that convinces me otherwise. Toure, Lucas and Borini were excellent (although the latter had few chances) - Markovic continues to show great pace but is unsure of quite what to do with it yet and Can looks a long way off the pace as of yet. Moreno is a success in my books and the just is out over Johnson vs Manquillo vs Wisdom (on loan at WBA).

Or a fully fit Flanno!

Couldn't help myself, had to check the score as I wasn't concentrating on my course.

Will still watch the game tonight.

How to win a Liverpool shirt and other awesome news:

OFFICIAL LIVERPOOL SUPPORTERS CLUB
Our application to become an Official Liverpool Supporters Club was accepted by Liverpool!! We are now part of the network of worldwide OLSC’s. A massive thank you to all Wellington Liverpool supporters for supporting me and LFC Wellington over the last 10 months. It’s thanks to you that this has been possible. Also, a thanks to those of you that dipped into your own pockets to sign up for LFC International Membership so that we could submit our application. Lastly I owe a huge thank you to Lisa and her staff at The Pub; and Geordie, Matt and the staff at Four Kings who let us use their bars at all hours. Hold fire with any questions on what this all means for LFC Wellington. I will be speaking with a Liverpool Supporters Club liaison over the next few days to thrash out some details and will keep you posted.

HOW TO WIN A 2014/15 LFC SHIRT
One of our LFC Wellington supporters is cycling around Lake Taupo 4 times (640 very hilly kms) at the end of this month and has chosen to raise money for Child Heart Disease:
https://cycleforheartkids2014.everydayhero.com/nz/angry-swan

To help Chris raise funds there will be a raffle at the LFC v Chelsea match this weekend.

First Prize – Liverpool fan: Warrior have very generously supplied us with a 2014/15 LFC shirt (winner’s choice of home/away or 3rd shirt)
First Prize – Chelsea fans: Home Chelsea shirt generously donated today by Adidas.
Second & Third Prizes: Monthly Premier League Passes

The prizes will be available to LFC and CFC fans throughout the country and tickets to go in the draw will be $5 each.

You can either purchase a raffle ticket on the night, or go to Chris’ donation page online (if you are not in Wellington) https://cycleforheartkids2014.everydayhero.com/nz/angry-swan and donate there. Every $5 donated will give you a chance to win (for example, Stu donated $50 so will have 10 tickets in the prize draw). If you donate online please put LFC or CFC at the end of your name so we know which draw to put you in. Winners will be announced on this Facebook page.

• The prizes will be drawn at half time of the LFC v CFC match this weekend
• Prizes are not redeemable for cash or transferable

If you are not lucky enough to win either of these shirts you can purchase one from our friends at Football Central:

Thanks Tyler, no he isn't right yet but I expect that.  Little bugger keeps asking if we can go to the Pub again so if he's able , we'll be there on Saturday. Eventually there'll be an end to it all , hopefully not quite yet.

Thoughts on season;

Mignolet, played well against RM ( best I've seen him play for 'Pool) but not yet sure about him. LAcks confidence , needs stronger in squad competition

Manquillo- defensively OK , offers little going forward but maybe worth sticking with,

Skrts- poor so far , back to his rubbish form of  2 years ago.

Lovren- good at Saints , yet to show that for us. Jury here still out.Good player , need to find form and have confidence of a solid GK

Moreno- thumbs up. Best of the summer signings by a long shot , looks like he's worth his place.

Sakho-not impressed yet. Physically a beast , should be dominant but not sure about his brain at times. Poor first touch , always lokks like a crap pass waiting to happen

JOhnson- has been average for a year now; shark we miss Flanno!!

Gerro- love him but not playing well. Prob worth his place for the moment but sooner rather that later I suspect a hard decision will need to be made.

Hendo- Thumbs up. Probably more important at the mo' that Gerro and I'd never thought I'd say that.

Lucas- quality against RM , I still really rate him even if BR doesn't

Allen- dunno , really classy player but not yet doing enough to be really convincing

Markovic- quick but that's it. Not good enough to be a first team starter on a regular basis. No end product ( yet). May come good

Can- again , unclear about him. EPL clearly a big step up but looks like he may  and I say may) have the ability.

Lallana- intermittently really good but expected more to be honest. A large chunk of Suarez coin went on him , not absolutely convincing yet

Ballotelli- absolutely crap. It;s OK to behave like a Twit if you produce the goods on the field and he just doesn't. I've never seen  why people rate him. He's lazy and has the mobility of a fudgeing donkey. As for people who say we should change our system to suit him... he just isn't good enough and I can't wait for him to just fudge off

Borini- not good enough BUT played well against RM and at least looks like he's trying. I'd keep playing him- he needs a goal then who knows what may happen with him. Rather him that that other Italian Twit.

Sterling- great but still young and a bit inconsistent. Rodgers need to manage him well but at least he's creative.

Coutinho- at times looks like a RM player to be honest , at other time looks like the ASB would be too hard. Still , on his day quite sublime. I think he misses having SAS in front of him to feed off his at times sublime passing ability

STurridge- FUCK Hodgson!!

BR- still has credibility from last season BUT that was based on Suarez having on of the best individual seasons I've seen for a long time.He doesn't have him now so this year will tell us a lot about BR I suspect.

Sorry it's a bit long

Jazz...Glad young Jazz is on the mend. It's nothing terminal or sinister?

I won't quote your whole blurb but agree with most of what you say. I do feel like things could still turn out positively for us. Like you say, most of our players are young and show glimpses of greatness. It could turn favourable or to crap. It's so hard to take after the excellent form last year. I guess we just hang and hope that the team gels soon. There is still quite alot of potential in this team and as people on here have pointe dout, we have played crap but still managed to scrape points and wins.

Yup. Hard to keep positive but trying my hardest. Still just 4 points behind 4th place BUT getting wins seems very tough at the moment. I think Rodgers is still on the right path BUT he needs some help. He must look at videos from last season and wonder how the same pace, passing and creativity has gone out of the window. We played exceptionally well even with Suarez not playing the odd game here and there and had a great record with him NOT playing. Sturridge may be the player we are actually missing, not Suarez - his movement creates opportunities for himself and the wingers/AMs.

I think that Rodgers should look to play 2 up front and I'd go with Borini and Balotelli.

Absolutely agree with this. Watched the game with two mates and we all thought it was much better with two up front. I did hear that Sturridge is very close to returning and actually had a fitness test before the game. Anyone heard anything?

The issue is that we need to lose a striker and probably one or two others in January to meet FFP.

Rumours are that they want Sakho out of the door along with Johnson and either Balo or Borini.

Those latter two seem tricky. I'd be surprised if Rodgers gives up on Balo that quickly, while Borini has already shown that he wants to stay once, and I don't see why he wouldn't do so again.

Sturridge says he'll be good to go for the next match, Palace at Anfield 23/11. I really really hope so too.
