Mourinho only has a 2 year shelf life, and he needs more money than anyone to get the results.

Klopp is a fantastic signing I feel.

Should we have waited for Abramasonofabitch to sack  Mou so we could have had a go at him? Seriously , I would have liked to explore Ancellotti or Simeone. Just hope we haven't appointed in a rush , if indeed we have.

He's 48, has a Supercup x 3, Bundesliga titles x 2, CL final, German Managet OTY x 2 and FIFA World Coach of the year x 1.

I'll take him.

Oh I know all that, but his last year at BM was a bit of a Rodgers

I hope I'm wrong but this appointment is the most critical one for many years . Just spoken to Jr, he's as pleased as a very pleased thing

He'll be a step up from what we've had, I'll grant you that

"This decision has to be the right one from the owners. We’ve seen them appoint Damien Comolli, Dalglish, create a transfer committee and hire Rodgers. None have been a true success. This next move needs to be."

Carra - telling it like it is.

I'd personally be happy with Ancelotti or Klopp, both a big step up from Rodgers. Preference for Klopp as I think he's more likely to stick around longer if successful in my opinion.

Or unless the Bayern job becomes available. Would he be interested in us if Pep wasn't rumoured to be signing a new deal at Bayern? Not that it matters of course. Agree re step up from Rodgers.

Haha wouldn't that be the ultimate kick in the crotch for Dortmund?! Same with players signing five year deals then leaving after a season really, there are no guarantees.

Thanks Jazz, he makes some great points.

Watching that 3-2 win over City at The Pub, packed out with reds at awful o'clock on a sunday night is one of my favourite sporting memories.

Cheers for the good times Mr. Rodgers and sincerely all the best for the future!

So it seems like it's Klopp.

On the chance it's not, then it's Ancelotti...

...but if it's neither, who is your third favourite?

Klopp to be confirmed within the next 48 hours. Press conference being set-up.

Other craziness is coming out of this too - I wonder who starts these as it drives Twitter mental:

  • Gerrard has been offered chance to train with team in MLS off-season and will also complete his coaching tickets there and be offered a position.
  • Carragher will also be offered a position within the coaching set-up.
  • Current coaching team will be gone, Klopp to bring his whole Dortmund team with him.
  • Coutinho will be sold in January to Barca to fund building a team to suit Klopp's style.

My head hurts.

I had a look at Liverpools squad, would have thought Coutinho would be one that would fit Klopp's style. Will need very good athletes coupled with finesse. Benteke is not a typical Klopp type player and not sure if there is the quality of ball playing CDs.

If you have a quality established squad and/or a huge pile of money, and you want a trophy instantly, then Mourinho's your man.

Otherwise I don't think it's a good idea - he is disliked by most, oversees a very ugly playing style, brings on touchline bans and fines like they're going out of fashion, and has shown repeatedly that he's not a feasible long term option. The length of employment isn't so much an issue these days but you'd want someone who at least might leave behind a positive culture for the next manager to follow - that's not Mourinho either.

Announcement at 10am Friday (BST)

Wonder what it will be? ...and while we're having a Klopp love-in, here are some great quotes...

On competing against Bayern Munich

“Go through the world and find me a team who can finish as champions in the same league as Bayern. If we should finish second this summer, I’ll find a truck and drive it through my garden. If nobody will rejoice, I’ll do it alone.

“We have a bow and arrow and if we aim well, we can hit the target. The problem is that Bayern has a bazooka. The probability that they will hit the target is clearly higher. But then Robin Hood was apparently quite successful.”

On Mats Hummels’ continuous injury problems

“We will wait for him like a good wife waiting for her husband who is in jail.”

On victory at Bayern Munich

“When Dortmund last won here 19 years ago, most of my players were still being breast-fed.”

On signing Henrikh Mkhitaryan

“Mkhitaryan fits us like an arse on a bucket. What he offers is exactly what we need.”

On the difference between himself and Arsène Wenger

“He likes having the ball, playing football, passes. It’s like an orchestra. But it’s a silent song. But I like heavy metal more. I always want it loud.”

On dealing with defeat

“When I gave the first interview, I was very disappointed. After the second one 10 minutes later, I was feeling better. In 30 minutes, I’ll probably feel like we won the match.”

On being sent off

“I’m a bit proud of my first red card as coach. I approached the fourth official and said: ‘How many mistakes are allowed here? If it is 15, you have one more.’”

When asked by a Schalke fan what the secret is to winning the Bundesliga

“How do you explain to a blind person what colour is?”

On motivating his team after a poor first-half performance

“I told my players during the interval: ‘Since we’re here anyway, we might actually play a bit of football.’”

His own perspective on football

“It’s very emotional, very fast, very strong, not boring, no chess. Of course tactical, but tactical with big heart. Tactical things are so important, you cannot win without tactics, but the emotion makes the difference. Life in our game, that’s important.”

On creating a style of football at Borussia

“The fans should not only recognise us by our black and yellow jerseys. Even if we play in red, everyone in the stadium should think: ‘Whoa, that can only be BVB.’”

On Barcelona’s tiki-taka style

“It is not my sport. I don’t like winning with 80% [possession]. Sorry that is not enough for me. Fighting football, not serenity football, that is what I like. What we call in German ‘English’ — rainy day, heavy pitch, 5-5, everybody is dirty in the face and goes home and cannot play for weeks after.”

On his hair transplant

“Yes, it’s true. I underwent a hair transplant. And I think the results are really cool, don’t you?”

Oh behalf of LFC Wellington...

Spurs v LFC & charity fundraiser Sunday 12:45am 18th October

Come and join us at Four Kings as we welcome Jurgen Klopp to LFC for his first game v Spurs. Like many, we’re intrigued, and excited, to see how the side will line up and how our Redmen will go trying to impress the new gaffer! There’s only 1 point separating these 2 sides in the league at present, a win could potentially mean a spot in the top 4.

This will likely be the best kick off time we will get all season, 12:45 on a Saturday night / Sunday morning and we’re expecting a big croud. Make sure you get down early.

Win a Signed Liverpool Shirt (or if you're stupid, a Spurs shirt...not signed)

We are also running a raffle as a fundraiser for Heart Kids. Last November we held a similar fundraiser and raised over $400 for Heart Kids by sponsoring Chris Little as he rode around Taupo 4 times.

This year we have 2 awesome prizes available.

A Liverpool 15/16 home shirt that has been signed by 19 members of the touring squad that went to Australia. Signatures include Jordan Henderson, James Milner, Kolo Toure, Nathaniel Clyne, Simon Mignolet, Lucas Leiva, Joe Gomez, Joe Allen, Divock Origi, Adam Bogdan, and Jordan Rossiter.

This raffle is open to all fans throughout NZ. There are 2 ways you can get into the draw to win one of the fantastic prizes and give a little to Heart Kids NZ.

Visit our Heart Kids NZ givealittle page https://givealittle.co.nz/fundraiser/lfcwellingto... and make a donation by 9pm Saturday 17th October. Every $10 will give you a ticket in the draw. Please ensure your name is included (so we know who to contact) and that you write in the comments section ‘LFC’ or ‘Spurs’ so we know which shirt you would like to win.

In person at the Four Kings with cash on Saturday 17th October. Every $10 you give will give you a ticket in the draw There’s no limit to the number of tickets you can get and the winners will be drawn at half time (but you don’t have to be there to collect your prize. We’ll send it on if you’re not).

Thanks for your support and hope to see you Saturday/Sunday YNWA

Gosh reading the UK press and everyone seems to agree: Klopp is fantastic and this is a good fit.

Football365 even headed up their feature article "Jurgen Klopp: A collective bumming" to illustrate how well-liked he is... arf!

Policy is generally no but they will bend the rule on this occassion. I just need to let them know who they are keeping an eye out for and letting in as it will be case by case. They also noted that the place will likely be packed as rugby is on as well.

Drop me an email so I can discuss detail - they will need to let security know. leigh_clem@yahoo.co.nz
