If anyone saw the game against West Brom on Monday and have any ambitions to be manager/coach, hope you don't take SAF approach and take off 3 players with young legs (when you are winning 5-2) and replace them with 3 players with old legs. I know the result was going to affect anything, but a pretty dumb move regardless of the motives.

If you are old and wise you were probably young and stupid

Nostalgia got the better of him - bringing on the old guard like that.

Must say I'm still in a state of adjustment. I started following United when Tommy Docherty was manager and I'm glad actually that we're finally into a new era - and that it was all done and dusted quickly. As I've said i think Moyes is a safe choice who I hope will pleasantly surprise; and I hope his appointment gives a fresh lease of life to the squad. Can't wait to see how things pan out.

I know all the Utd haters will laugh but Moyes has a chance to win the league next season. He should start off with winning the Community Shield.

I think Moyes will do well and maintain the style to which United are used to playing. A fresh challenge to him, not just United.

Take a second to vote for which EPL team you want Sommet Sports to buy the internet channel rights to so they can broadcast a complete EPL game and other footage every week. (they already have the rights to Chelsea TV)

Sommet Sports are the new sports channel on Freeview in NZ and start broadcasts in a few weeks.

They are broadcasting already temporarily on ch. 114 as a test (though not this weekend due to technical problems - will resume in a few days) - have been broadcasting replays of last seasons' Capital Cup, Europa Lge etc. the last month.

(to find the test channel's transmissions, punch "114" on your remote - or do a re-scan of your UHF box first if necessary)

They will be broadcasting regularly on ch 14 in a few weeks.

VOTE HERE FOR WHICH EPL TEAM'S CHANNEL YOU WANT THEM TO BUY THE RIGHTS TO (scroll down):

What English Premier League Team TV channel would you like us to buy? (we have Chelsea and we are only allowed one more)

Rio's testimonial, don't take it too seriously.

Shite, that. Don't want you lot anywhere near him. He's brilliant.

I know. Trying not to get hopes up. He's now/next gen midfield for any of the top 3 teams in Spain, Italy, Germany.

Exactly. He's unreal.

Just stay away from Oliver Torres though, thank you very much.

Yep. Man Utd vs Thai XI, Live 1am Sunday 14th on Sommet

Sounds like youse are missing out on Thiago then... surely he'd choose Bayern over ManU?

Guardiola:

"I want Thiago Alcantara," the new Bayern manager said. "I have asked. I don't know what will happen.

"I don't think that will be a problem. I spoke to club about my concept and told them why I want Thiago Alcantara.

"Thiago is the only player I want, that's what I told them. It will be him or no one. We have many players but we the need the special (quality) that Thiago Alcantara brings.

"The club will decide. I told them my opinion. Nobody will leave Barcelona, unless they feel they won't play much. He wants to play. That's why I proposed him to the club."

Saw that Gardiola had come calling - my heart dropped. Gardiola's comments will carry huge weight. New coach; the one player he really wants etc. Clearly it tells the board, "be the highest bidder". Bugger.

Rooney not coming aussie, that's a shame for man u fans.....sounds a bit shady going back home after 1 day on the tour thou?

Well, if he does head off to Bayern then I would be looking at Kroos and/or Gustavo, mainly Kroos.

Wonder where he fits in that Bayern team. I really fancy him in the deeper midfield role, but he couldn't touch Javi Martinez or Schweinsteiger. So I guess they play him for Kroos behind the 'striker'? At United he will be able to run the show.

Still. Hope he goes to Bayern.

Didn't Pep sign him for Barca? Or was he an academy prospect?

Also he might not touch Martinez/Schweinsteiger, but when you've got all the league and cup games Bayern do there will be rotations/injuries.

Academy player at Barca since '05 - eligible for Spain, Italy and Brazil.

I could see Martinez playing more games at CB if Thiago signs. Bayern also have Kroos and Gustavo that can play one of the double pivots, and Kroos looks likely to be behind a lot of other players now in a more advanced position, even without Thiago signing, unless as was rumoured Robben is on the way out - though his work rate was really good last season possibly because of Goetze's signing.

Plays for Spain though.

Three for me, and two for them.

You're right, should have said was eligible for Italy and Brazil

Interesting fact: His younger brother Rafinha also at Barca has chosen to represent Brazil.

Tomorrows Man Utd vs Thai XI game is being replayed at 9am on Sommet

13 Jul 23:04

Even the Thai kit looks a lot better than the A-League kit. White and gold with a dragon on the front.

Utd shirts had the players names in Thai on the back too, which was a nice touch.

Maybe the All Stars shirts could be in aborigine?

So Thiago went to Bayern? Boss.

16 Jul 06:26

Gutted.

Given that we have now bid for Fabregas it seems Moyes is intent on signing a more attacking playmaker than Carrick - allelujah; been calling on that here for ages.

If not Cesc, who?

Would be sniffing around Bayern to see if there are any players unhappy with the Thiago move

What Moyes actually said about Rooney:

"I think he's got a major role to play because we need to try and get as many goals as we possible can. I think Wayne can play up top. He can play dropped in [behind the center forward]. Overall my thought on Wayne is he'll be key. If, for any reason, we had an injury to Robin, we are going to need him. I want to be able to play the two of them. I want to be able to use Danny Welbeck, Chicharito as well."
