This ESPN article has some tasty options for Arsenal in the transfer market. I can really only see Wenger waiting til the last minute to do anything, seeing how Bendtner's injury improves and assessing the health of the squad. But one can dream.

Seven transfer targets for Arsenal.

Will be interesting to see what happens with Lukaku at the end of his loan at Everton. Will he go back to Chelsea or has he had enough of being loaned out and will seek a move to a big club. I think he'd be great for us. Young, proven scoring record and won't need any settling in period to the Premiership which foreign players often do.

Draxler - isn't a striker
Mandzukic - no way - Lewandowski doesn't go to Bayern until next season.
Costa - will cost 100m+
Morata - probably the best possibility; loan move?

All striking options seem very unlikely to happen in Jan. I doubt wenger will throw caution to the wind, he'll probably try and see the season out with Giroud, Bendtner and Podolski filling the striking role. Maybe make a play for Mandzukic in the off-season...

Draxler rumour could have legs though, it seems we've been chasing him for a while now. He could also help fill the right-hand side in theo's absence, along with Gnabry, Ox and probably Wilshere. And at 20 years old he'd be a huge part of the big picture for the future.

Maybe the striker leading the line here could go alright. None of our goals were scrappy, all class. Their one goal came right at the end courtesy of a CB loosing possession in his own half.

Morata on loan seems a sensible option, I friend even suggested Pedro from Barca in a similar vain.

That's not a bad idea, hang onto him unless we get other cover. But don't forget we still have Park!

Here's a clip on Morata...

loltastic quote from D.Seaman on T.Henry on arsenal.com;

'When Thierry first came we didn't really know who he was. One of the biggest things that I remember is when we used to play an eight versus eight in training.

'Thierry would be against Tony [Adams] and Martin [Keown], who would really try to kick him because he was so good and a little bit moody.

'But they couldn't get near him and all of a sudden you could see a change in his attitude. He was like, 'right I'm going to show you'. He'd get the ball and go past Martin and past Tony and then smash one past me.

'He would even celebrate.'

Haha that's fantastic Paulm!

I had a thought that maybe we might go back in for Ba? However he is cup bound for both the FA Cup and ECL. However he has only played 8 games...he might be getting itchy feet.

The problem with getting a cup tied striker is that we're limited in their use, i.e. stuck with Bendtner as Giroud's back up for the two cup competitions we want quality in!

A quick search on Morato indicates he hasn't been cup bound so he still seems to be the odds on bet.

Also I do like the idea of Pato. Wenger would be the kind of coach who could help him recover his form/potential, however we need someone who can really hit the ground running.

rumours that bendy boy will be back from injury in as little as 10 days

As an aside if you want to have a giggle, here's a thread discussing transfers during the 2007 off-season;

https://www.yellowfever.co.nz/categories/english-and-other-british-lower-league-football-discussion/topics/arsenal-039-s-signings

Some real zingers in there, couple of highlights;

"power shift in north london"

"van persie is not an out and out striker"

lolz

For the record that was the off-season that thierry departed :(

Just guna put it out there, I reckon he'll be our manager one day.

Note in the above I am assuming the Times report on Bendtner coming back in 10 days is not true - in his presser Wenger said he'll be back in training in 3 weeks. Although that's a standard arsene line that generally means nothing!

Against Villa I'd expect Ramsey and Gibbs to be on the bench, and the Ox perhaps not included altogether just yet. Perhaps we're looking at;

                      Szczesny

Sagna-Mertesacker-Koscielny-Monreal

                  Arteta-Wilshere

            Gnabry-Ozil-Cazorla

                        Giroud

Even with our injuries we've still got plenty of options in midfield and the wide positions. Rosicky, Flamini and Podolski could all potentially come in for starts.

Interesting conundrum in our midfield right now.

I think Flamini has been unlucky not getting starts lately - he and Arteta playing together just doesn't quite click. Neither seem completely suited to the more advanced of the two 'sitting in' midfielder roles. I feel Arteta looks exposed for pace if he's more advanced when we lose the ball, and Flamini lacks a natural attacking instinct that our other midfielders provide, even though he got that nice goal a while back. Personally I prefer Flamini starting in the deepest role but Wenger seems to prefer Arteta.

Had to have a cheeky giggle at this letter published in the football365 mailbox;

"About a year ago the mailbox was full of mails from Manchester United fans who called for their club, having successfully completed the signing of RVP, to go back for Jack Wilshere.

At the time we were languishing outside the Champions League places and we were told Wilshere should up sticks and move north as United could guarantee him Champions League football and the chance of silverware.

A year on, while we may not be able to offer Adnan Januzaj a guarantee of silverware, we currently top the league and with United facing a squad-rebuilding job of epic proportions given the age of a number of their key playing personnel may I extend the invitation for young Januzaj to join us at the Emirates.

We can't guarantee silverware or a starting place as young Gnabry will be ahead of you but we can ensure you develop at your own pace and not have to carry a squad of aging has-beens."

Good shout on the Flamini front Paulm. Arteta is smart enough to bomb forward, yet he doesn't seem to do it as much. I would love to see the two of them playing together as it really anchors the back four, and provides the remaining 4 players in front of them to be more free to go hard on attack. Arsene know's though :)

Isn't it brilliant when Ramsey comes back shortly to have the options of Arteta, Flamini, Ramsey and even Wilshere to play in those deep roles.

Touch wood on the injury front, but there is more depth this time round in midfield and defence to hopefully see us through to May

Absolutely agree SkinnyB, Rosicky can play in those roles if needed too, he often does when substitutions are made later in games. Doesn't look like much space for Diaby if he ever runs again... poor guy

Arseblog was reporting it was only the $ keeping us from  re-signing Sagna. Hopefully we find the coin, he's worth it. I'd like to see a few players retire with us, like Sagna, Arteta, Flamini, Rosicky, and Diaby when he just gives up. Poor bugger.

Great to see Man United getting some points at last. Keeps the axe away from David Moistys neck a bit longer, which works out nicely for everyone else. Unless they sack him and appoint Tony Pulis...

apparently Ox might be in the squad for tomorrow's game. I think him and gnabry can covercertain aspects of what we are losing with theo out but they wont match theo's goal scoring or assists. Does make you wonder where the goals will be coming from. We seem to be linked with everyone at the moment, read somewhere about remy i'd take him in a heart beat.

Goals will keep coming from where they have come all season...  theo only has 6 in all comps this season, he's only been fit for about a month. We'll miss what theo brings to the team but we've got lots of goalscorers, we should be comfortable playing without him.

Team for villa starting in 5 mins;

                     Szczesny

Sagna-Mertesacker-Koscielny-Monreal

               Flamini-Wilshere

            Gnabry-Ozil-Cazorla

                      Giroud

one out of two so far... jacko looking good in the attacking third, ozil mmm ... some poor touches today
Giroud looks hungry and full of energy, seems refreshed after that break
Benteke and Agbonlahor always cause our backline trouble, kosc and monreal have both been shown up a couple of times, gotta concentrate lads

thank f*ck for that

glad to see the back of villa for this season, feel like they're a bit of a bogey side for us, benteke and agbonlahor have bullied our backline a bit over the two matches. Despite a poor home record they've turned up in some big games - they beat Man City there this season.

Top of the league, by the skin of out teeth... 17 games to go
