Your dad supports Spurs and you support Arsenal? How did that come about?
My Grandfather (Dad's Father) who I was very close to was a lifelong Arsenal fan who attended matches from the 30s (he was part of the record attendance against Sunderland in 1935 for instance) until the 90s. One of my most cherished memories is him taking me to Highbury for the first time to do the tour, and also one of my final memories of him as he passed away before I was next in the UK.
My Dad supported Spurs because he wanted to annoy his Dad. It was never like that for me, I didn't really understand the rivalries. My first memories of football are Euro 96 and crying when England lost on penalties. But I didn't really get interested in club football for another year, and in 97 sat down with my Dad for the first time to watch what Sky had scheduled as a Spurs game (back in the days when we got 1 game a weekend here and you had to phone them the day before to find out what game it was) but what turned up was an Arsenal game. Arsenal won 5-0 and I was mesmerised by Bergkamp and that was it. So guess I can thank a Sky TV error aswell as my connection with my Grandfather.
My brother's a United fan, for the same reason as most people who started watching football around the age of 8/9 in the late 90s. Football debates in our house growing up were often quite unpleasant!
