Man what a turn around - went into a meeting at 55 minutes gone expecting to come back to a 1-1 draw based on how we were playing! GET IN LADS.

Also since we won the NLD sp*rs have drawn and lost their next encounters and are back to 6th...oh what a great week.

Excellent win.

Hope the Lacazette niggle isn't serious.

Ramsey and Sanchez taken off nice and early.

Kolasinac is awesome, shoulda had a couple of goals today. Nice to see Giroud on the pitch and back in the goals, he's had a tough go of things this season considering his decision to stay, and his general form over the last year.

Also, watch closely on the replays, Ozil's goal was not actually a chip, but a deliberate bounce into the ground... this is a skill he has developed - seen him do it recently for Germany. It's actually outrageous. Next level ability.

Couple more things...

Monreal/Kosc/Mustafi with another clean sheet this morn to continue their run, and also worth noting that Ozil/Laca/Sanchez have now started 4 games together, and we've won all 4.

Secondly, not much chat about the recent backroom appointments. We've got the head scout from Dortmund now, who has bought in a ton of good players for them over the years, very successful guy, and we've also signed essentially a director of football type person, Sanllehi from Barcelona, responsible for getting transfers like Neymar and Suarez across the line.

Seems like 2 very good appointments, setting us up well for post-Wenger, and apparently both are far from "yes men". Good piece on it here;

Sounds like Lacazette out for the CBC game

Big decision... with Lacazette out, is it Welbeck or Giroud?

After that game you would think Giroud, but we know how Welbeck always goes against his former club... and he suits the pacey game better that we are playing... I think I'd go Welbeck myself. No other changes.

Strangely haven't heard that term "power shift" over the last week after not being able to stop hearing it for about a year.

Also new Tuesday Club out last week if anyone hadn't noticed. Focus on the NLD and 89 film.

Also has to be the most Arsenal thing ever to finally find a dynamic trio that's tearing teams apart for 4 games and now one is out injured so that's the end of that. No chance of that sort of thing ever lasting a long time at this club.

Welbeck has to start, surely. Love Giroud, but not for these games.

What is it about the officiating when we play Manchester teams? Those two penalties were clear cut. Ultimately that is an entirely self inflicted loss with those first two goals come from absolute moments of madness from Mustafi and Koscielny.

But fudge me dead how did the ref miss the Darmian challenge?

Permalink Permalink

the annoying this is those early two goals ruined what could have been a great game from two teams playing the same formation trying to find holes. I think the fact that when Pogba got the ball for the first goal he had 4 players sprouts him shows how psychologically we were almost scared of losing, not backing ourselves to stick it to them. As the commentators kept pointing out the response was excellent - but it still wasn’t enough.

To give you a less abusive perspective I’m really unsure how the rules of the game should be influenced by stadium capacity. You got very lucky - twice. Hopefully Pogba’s our for awhile as that was disgusting and completely unnecessary from him. Showed a total lack of class.

I don't think for a second he meant to do it.

I could smell blood for Arsenal at 2-0. The comeback felt totally on. Both those penalties would've been given in the King Power Stadium. I'm just saying that if I were an Arsenal fan I would feel somewhat disappointed seeing the stadium as empty as it was as early as it did.

Have to say, that was the best attacking performance and worst defensive performance from us in a while. That first goal - why did Monreal go inside? Absolutely nuts.

Possibly the best goalkeeping performance I have ever seen. De Gea (and a couple of missed penalties) were the clear difference here. If Arsenal can keep that attacking attitude in future games, it was a breathless game to watch for a neutral, they won't lose too many more times this season.

This what you mean? Ramsey, Mustafi, Monreal all diving into Pogba and leaving an easy pass into Valencia?

Memories of that game against a Russian club in the CL some years ago (CSKA Moscow was it?) when when we had 30 odd chances and couldn't beat the keeper and ended up 0-0. It was an odd sort of loss and I don't feel as sick about it as I usually would. It wasn't like those games we've had against the big sides where we got blown away in the first 20 minutes. After a couple of poor errors early we actually produced one of our best attacking performance in recent times but came up against a top keeper who was unbeatable on the day. Leaving aside penalty shouts or crowd attendance, on another day or against another keeper we'd have had 4 or 5. Terrible errors to gift then the early goals but good response and we couldn't have done much more after that to be fair and you wont often lose playing as well as that. One of those days it just wouldn't go in.

Couple of thoughts for you lot this morning:

3-4-2-1 vs 4-5-1

There's been a bit of chat about whether we revert to the 4-5-1 and get that extra body back into midfield. I'm personally of the opinion that this is good move IF we can get our full backs to reign it in. They currently both get up to the edge of the opposition penalty area leaving 2 CB's behind. Personally I'd rather see the two of them alternate, sitting in front of the CB's in a position to drive forward as needed but when one is at the by-line the other's much closer to the two CB's. This would enable the CB's to slide over and cover the space from one fullback, without completely exposing the other flank (like what works well with the '3' at the back).

January

I think January is going to be a fascinating month for us. Baring an absolutely brilliant play from these new backroom hires I'm expecting they'll both be signing Bosmans with each of the Manchester clubs. Where January gets interesting is if we can bring in a Lemar, a Dybala, an Asensio type signing now. Spend mega bucks as a statement of intent for the rest of the season, and going forward. It would be a huge boost to offset the loss of Ozichez which would put us on less of a back step when rebuilding the team.
