very disappointing.

every game is a must win, but we MUST beat Fulham this weekend.

who will play in the guts, now barton is out? Smith? or Guthrie?

Not sure about the wisdom of bringing Steve Clarke back as assistant manager.

Otherwise, the story is SSDD.

Schwarzer!

ESPN tells us that, "[Newcastle] at least claimed another point to add to their survival fund with the total now standing at 18."  At 9 points ahead of the relegation candidates-in-chief, one might think the appropriate story would be about the Toon looking good value for a mid-table finish.

Also, Lee Ryder is campaigning to get Barton an England call-up, and responds to the "ban him for life" crowd by calling them anti-proletarian snobs.

ZonalMarking was a bit more positive about the Arsenal game than me.  While he didn't bother with a full write-up, his "ten steps" article is worth a look.  (If you read ZM regularly, point 9 is probably the most interesting.)

Still, I'd be a bit cautious until maybe half way through the comp. If we were to loss Tiote or Carroll through injury, there could well be a slide down the table.

Definitely not complaining about results to date tho!

Harper and Ben Arfa are on their way back from injury.

Prediction time: the brass will announce that these returning players constitute strengthening the squad over summer (and, hence, that there is no need to sign anyone in January).

Sorry.  This is all my fault.  I drank too much last night and wrote the following request:

"Dear Pel,
Tonight I would like Newcastle to win.  It would be a bonus if Andy Carroll scored.  Also, please make sure that Newcastle take a beating."

Worst of all, this will only make me more pedantic.

Looks like the letter got delivered to Diego instead.

Bolton @ Reebok is a hard ask.

Need to put it behind and focus on Chelski in a week's time.

Nice guardian blog. Might have to use the site more often.

Snow and ice threatening the game - wouldn't be too fussed if it was postponed!

f**k sake. Leave the bloke alone. NUFC supporters are not expecting europe like the old days and all this media work is bullsh*t. Hughton is the best thing at NUFC since Bobby Robson.

Very surprised with his axing. Thought Newcastle had been doing better than expected this season.

I actually feel sorry for Newcastle fans here. Another terrible decision by the board. They must be livid. Seriously the board continuously shoot themselves and the club in general in the foot with ludicrous decisions like the one just made.

Three for me, and two for them.

About to get even more embarrassing - Martin Lol to make his return to the Premier League!

Mike ashley is the biggest w**ker ever. Seriously, what do you expect from us? Europe? f**k off you twat. Hughton has been outstanding and you have just thrown all that good work down the bloody drain. Pissed.
over 15 years ago · edited over 13 years ago
Remember only a few months ago when the board said they would negotiate Hughton a new contract at the end of the season? Who would want to take the job given their short patience and trustworthiness? The thing is there not even in a bad position, especially for a promoted club
over 15 years ago · edited over 13 years ago
Exactly, we are sitting in good postion for a promoted club. Hughton was well respected by the players and transformed the poor attitude of the players. Previously it was a bunch of overpaid players who didnt care, now we had players showing passion. He has transformed players such as Colocini and barton who were terrible under previous managers and created a potential star in big Andy Carroll. This decision makes absolute no sense at all, its a joke. All i can hope now is we get a manager such as Martin Oniel but why would he or a manager of his level want to come manage under a nutter like ashley. Ashley will already have lined up the bloke, looks like its jol. He must be promising a substantial transfer budget.

"Dad , why is modern football rubbish?"

"Son it's because they treat good men like Chris Hughton with no respect"

Ahh - the farce returns to St James Park. Has to be one of the stupidest decisions I have seen for a while. To transform this club from the shambles they were when relegated to the position they are in today was nothing short of a miracle and Chris H deserves much of the credit for that. Given the opportunity he could have been at the club for years. Instead we are going to look for a "star" manager which we've tried before (Gullit, Dalglish, Souness, Allardyce(??!!!!!)....) = Failed.

cant believe it. Had the squad to survive in the league this year, had a solid manager who was making the toon a place other players would want to come to, and now this.

Im so excited, we are getting alan pardew by the sounds of it. Ashley wanted experience, and pardew is experienced at getting clubs relegated.

 Nawww.

Dw lads, at least you face the Liverpool away machine this weekend, perfect time for a manager honeymoon period!

Alan Pardew!?!?  Oh dear.

Apparently I'm apathetic, but I couldn't care less.

Oh cant you guys understand the decision? Pardew for Hughton makes soooo much sense...Please Martin Oniel come save this club from from more hellish years.

5 years as well apparently!

Seems really hypocritical. They hired Shearer with his first job to save Newcastle from relegation then they sack Hughton because of lack of 'experience.' What a joke

Sorry, too busy slashing my wrists to comment.
