Unfortunately I think we are stuck with Cashley for a while.

Maybe the Saudi Sheik could be persuaded to have a look at NE England instead of the A-League.

Rumour has it that the plan to alleviate our striking difficulties is: buy Lille's forwards.

I just don't think Newcastle is the kind of club that throws 40 million at a problem...

Not anymore!

Maybe a set of matching mouthguards

This article is filled with great news.

Kenny Dalglish has decided to let us in on what that British record transfer fee was buying:

"I've been with him at Boyzone concerts"

I don't know how the rest of you feel about that, but it does make me feel a bit better disposed towards the Fat Controller.  He held out for a good dowry - but couldn't really stand in the way of love.

I still think Barton's a c*** but I do respect him for having the balls to call it as he see's it, especially with regards to the English midfield. I'd tend to agree with a lot of his view point, and like the fact that he's prepared to be very frank, if he get's his crack I hope it takes it.

I used to think Joey was a right cock, but these days he's a bit of a pussy (in a nice way).

Revised objective (a bit stretchy but realistic):  Finish above SAFC.

I think we should aim higher than 19th.

Top-half finish is still the target (as I wrote, way upthread), and still realistic.  European dreams will have to wait.

A salute from the old enemy - one I'm happy to return.   It's going to be hard to understand English football when he finally retires.

Interesting game.  Two near-penalties both denied by the referee - one each, so I'll just shrug it off.  Ireland's cameo showed some promise, as did Ranger's (not many players get so much change out of Vidic).

Yup well done lads, another lifeline for the Arsenal. Maybe one day we will take our chance...

Please take your delusions elsewhere.  The lads didn't do it to boost Arsenal's false hopes.  If they did it for anything outside of the North-East, it was to show Liverpool that they no longer have any say in who wins the Premier League.

I was following the standard formula for trolling Liverpool: imply or state that the club's proud history is just that - history.  It wasn't a random barb, though.  I'd been quietly seething since the outburst from Reds fans that they'd just handed ManU the title after the draw with Arsenal.  You lot were basically saying that there was no chance of Newcastle getting anything out of this match.

Fair point. Patronising w**kers.

If you are old and wise you were probably young and stupid

Mate, those fans are embarassing anyway. We play for our club and thats all we should care about anyway. But not sure its having a go at Newcastle in particular? Those people were probably just depressed cos we 'handed them the title' by drawing one game ffs. Really wouldn't listen to people like that, how can you take them seriously?

Ah, c'mon, you're not telling me it was just the dregs!  TheKop was making those sorts of noises on this forum, and you wouldn't disown him, right?   Don't fret, though - I'm not taking it any further than that one scornful remark in reply.

Of course, if the next transfer window is like the last one, the knives will be out!
almost 15 years ago · edited over 13 years ago
Well they have apparently agreed to sign Enrique so the knives could well and truly be out.
almost 15 years ago · edited over 13 years ago
Yeah, well, that has yet to be confirmed.

On the topic of hating things Liverpool, a certain mercenary git has seen fit to whine about being booed at SJP.

Ingrate.  Owen was given a hero's welcome and a shower of money when he signed for the club.  Does he really think that he paid the fans and the club back for that?  If he does, he's crazier than El Hadji Diouf.

Soccernet has a write-up on Villas-Boas, including a short quote on the "Special Two"'s feelings for Sir Bobby Robson.  "He was decisive in the love I feel for this profession," he acknowledged, "and for the doors he opened for me at that age. I owe him."

Well, Andre, I can think of one way you might discharge that debt, and win yourself some silverware in the process...

Don't let 5under1and hog your attention.  Either they stay up for two derby thrashings a season, or they get relegated towards a division more fitting their character.

Liverpool up next.  By coincidence, Everton fan Joey Barton will shortly sign a new 3-year contract with Newcastle.  Yet again, he's setting everyone a bad example - this time, by taking a pay cut!
almost 15 years ago · edited over 13 years ago
Good on Joey.  Nice to see he isn't being stymied by his past.  In fact there would be many more players a lot rasher than he is now.

Andy Carroll is claiming to be injured in the build-up to the match at Anfield.

I reckon he's hamming it up to avoid playing against his old team.
almost 15 years ago · edited over 13 years ago

Sounds like there' snout wrong with him.

Anyway hoping for a point but would be happy with all three.

Meireles is a right swine.  How did he get through the first half without being booked?  Oh, wait, he was only playing recklessly and unsportingly against Joey Barton...
almost 15 years ago · edited over 13 years ago
Whatever Liverpool is paying Walton, they should double it!  He did a great job for them today: protecting Flanagan, combining with Meireles to limit the danger at set pieces, and, of course, his crucial intervention against Ameobi.  I don't want to downplay the contribution of Kuyt and Suarez at the front, but without Walton that would have been a much closer game - we could have seen quite a twist in the tail.

Expect to be bristling for the next few days.  Only news of key players signing new contracts will cause the rage to subside.

Owen: Hernadez is a better version of me

In other words he is a midget that isn't quite a mercenary little c*ck and prone to injury as Owen.

If we have to talk about a scumbag former player, I think "piglet" might be the right term for Owen.

Mathematically safe now.  A top-half finish is still on the cards, along with the minor objective of finishing ahead of 5under1and.  We might have our Best striker back for the WBA game.
almost 15 years ago · edited over 13 years ago
Not expecting much tonight.  We're down to kids like Greg McDermott sitting on the bench - the team just isn't up to the tusk!

All we ask is that the players do honour to their colours.

Always tough at the Bridge, against 14 men (unless one is Sian Massey), however 5under1and dropped their match so it is gammon for the lads to get a point or three.

I suppose the owner is wondering who he can hock off at the end of the season.
