Well he's out as well as most of the midfield and defence:

"Michael Dawson (Achilles), Tom Huddlestone (ankle), Vedran Corluka (ankle), Ledley King (thigh) and Aaron Lennon (groin) are out and Wilson Palacios (groin) is struggling to be fit.

Jonathan Woodgate (groin) is out for the season and Carlo Cudicini (wrist/pelvis) is also expected to miss the rest of the campaign but is back training."

Oh well. It was nice while it lasted. Would have been nice to stay 4th for another week.

Can we hold on for 5th/6th?

Agree, but its a fantastic ride. Sunderland only lost twice at home all year. Still, got the Cup & who knows with the other teams. It's way better than being mid table with nothing to play for.

I don't know why you guys are being quite so dire about your prospects for 4th.

Sure, half of your last 6 games are against the top three but City have Brum, Arsenal, United, Villa, and you lot to play. That's a pretty tough run in as well.

We've got serious injury problems although Lennon is due back soon.

4th spot is mathematically do-able and assumes City slip up. Realistically it is extremely unlikely.

you make it sound like you need sum miracle to make it into 4th. your a point behind with 5 to go. seems extremely open.

granted you do have some tough opposition but still there is cause for optimism

Also, let's assume that we can cobble together an effective starting XI for the rest of the games. We get vital points and City slips up.

All that will count for nothing when the last game comes around and lasagne (or this year's variant) is served up the night before.

I'm not confident we'll finish 4th. I still reckon Mank spitty will nab it. I'm also picking para-rubber to snatch 5th. Which means, unfortunately, we'll wind up in 6th.

Anyone know if the cup semi-final's being shown on TV here in NZ? Or is it time to search out the online feed again?!

Don't know about the semis. I thought TVNZ might show the final like they did last year.

Tommy Smyth suggested another feed (atdhe.net) to iraqgoals which keeps on cutting out whenever i've tried to watch Spurs or Toon.

We need to emphatically win this one and that will set us up nicely for the next important game against the @rse. As much as I want wins from both matches (no actually, ALL remaining matches), FA Cup is the teams focus I feel.

Chelski ripped us apart earlier this season, but i think a cup final will be different.
