Fuck this stupid game
Anthony Hudson (FAT Technical Director | Thailand)
can't wait for this side to get spanked by a real team. leave their oceania bubble and get into the real world.

It'd keep the AWs in the media!:
I think the tactic was probably the right one... not the one I wanted to see and it certainly wasn't implemented very well.
The Island teams have flair traditionally and good pace, but lack structure and organisation. Playing through them may not have worked because physically, they may have been able to recover when they got into trouble.
We scored off a long throw and could have had a couple more, not because its a great attacking weapon, but because their marking and positioning is poor.
Had it been done well, we may have had more halves like we did against Vanuatu.
What will be interesting is what we see in the next game, both around selections and tactics. Is he spewing alot of crap to cover his arse and that of the players, or was it a one off for the tournament?
I hope a one off, it would be a terrible shame to see some of our best ever attacking talent wasted by hoofball.
Didn't stop them slandering Ricki's name all over the show.
Conclusion: Hudson has made fewer enemies than Ricki, and that's what matters most in the NZF goldfish bowl.
Ramming liberal dribble down your throat since 2009
This forum needs less angst and more Kate Bush threads
IF Hudson to go? No! Ryan Nelsen back?
Norwich City supporter since 1992, New Zealand supporter since 2010 but without Rory Fallon's winning goal against Bahrain, I won't know about New Zealand Football.
Hudson's made mistakes no doubt, but I think judgement on his true ability now needs to be reserved until AWs performance at Confeds Cup next year. Come this time in Russia next year, and provided all/most of top players are available, plus he gets a few lead up games there will be no excuses.
No complaints of bumpy pitches, oppressive heat etc. Also by then he would have had far more time to figure out his top 23 players, and finally decide on a playing style.
In his defence with OFC Nations Cup his squad had a thrown together look about it (partly due to some shark selections). Five weeks ago the likes of Falloon, Wood, Rojas, Boxall, Kosta, Brockie could have walked down a street/strolled into a church and not recognised half their budding team mates. Now they can, and also whether they should pass to a Dyer/Prelevic or look for an alternative option!
Don't under estimate what an advantage the Islands had by their players all pretty much living & playing in their home countries. If you have been playing with your mate from the neighbouring village since you were both 8 years old, you know his game inside out and how he times his runs, where he likes the ball, what is his good foot etc. The Island players maybe 90% amateur but above is a significant advantage, when you come together in a short space of time.
Basically Hudson now should have plenty of games over next 12 mths, to sort out a game plan & his top squad. Come Russia next year there will be no excuses - just that he and his players weren't good enough if they get slaughtered.
On side note - with the Euros has been some encouraging performances by teams surviving on only 40% or less possession, and getting a result. Glimmer of hope for AWs and their big games next year.

Anthony Hudson is terrible, hes not going to get any better, there is no positives in his style of play or coaching ability, i wish we had some fudgeing standards for our national team like we have in other sports.

"implemented winning tactics"
I would like to hear Daddy Fallon rant commentary on the 'winning tactics'.
From Kevin's Blog on the Manukau City website
In PNG the All Whites faced a team who put their bodies on the line with great home support and possessing the odd player with flair. Chris Woods was a loss not that he was playing well but he was a presence. For me no one had a outstanding tournament apart from goalkeeper Stefan Marinovic. But who cares now we have qualified we pick up some much needed prize money and are guaranteed some cost free, top end, international games.
Sorry Kev but with this NZF this might not be a reality. They did turn down a Russian internal fixture. I hope they do get some top quality games but sadly I think it will not eventuate. Probably another training camp in Queensland.

except some teams had to qualify for the tournament.
Fallon and the young kids had forty days together, but most of the more experienced overseas pro contingent, came in later in the piece like 'brown cows' as my old grandpappy would say.
I'm reserving judgement on Hudson until the Confeds Cup. I doubt he will get access to all his senior pros either in 4 WC qualifiers later this year, or any friendlies arranged.
I see players like Reid, Smeltz, Thomas, Cameron coming back from injury layoffs being put under big pressure by their clubs not to play - given high expectation they will not be needed by the AWs to progress comfortably through the 4 initial qualifying games. Happy to be proven wrong.

I think he is referring to the actual games at the confeds cup - they are as he noted. free, top end games.

I do wonder if Hudson is trying to make it easier for some of his young not-yet-pro players to get pro gigs in the UK by making sure they play 75% of competitive matches and he is hoping that our FIFA ranking improves enough with WCQ and Confed Cup games. Seems a little back to front...
Had to agree with him for most of his radio interview. Although he did beat around the bush a bit with discussing Prelevic, and Keat's omission.
I watched some Euro press conferences the last week, interesting to see much coaches and players reflect on their team performances. Hudson still thinks it was all the perfect tactics and blamed the conditions and lack of key players. He has no idea how to convert his plan into reality or adjusted it. Just sweet talking. I expect nothing from him, which is sad, but I'm open for surprises.
Have listened. Didn't learn anything new to justify his tactics or selections but I have figured out whose voice he possesses. The man has to be Frank Spencer in disguise.
Auckland will rise once more
couldn't fit this on Linkedin?
"In 2 years Anthony Hudson has overseen enormous change and growth with the New Zealand National Team. Inheriting a team that was overage and lacking depth, he has brought in over 16 debutants, changed the style of play and improved performances drastically.
In 2016 he lead the All Whites to victory at the Nations Cup, not losing a game and only conceding one goal. By winning the tournament the All Whites qualify for the 2017 Confederations Cup in Russia. The All Whites failed to qualify 4 years ago, losing out in the semi finals.
He has also made significant impact with the implementation of his
style of play across all teams; the first team, U23, U20 and U17
national teams – same style of play and same coaching methods, total
alignment."
Still 2015 wasn't a write off for Anthony:

Has anyone got a link for that interview you keep talking about. Found that Hudson site when I went looking for the interview.
That s a goldmine. Go to the Qatar interview - we should get whoever that guy is doing the overdubbing to do the Phoenix commentary. Much more entertaining.
Also read the print articles when he was in charge of Bahrain. You could almost copy and paste what he says about the players, work ethic etc to recent AW interviews.
PMSL. Who the hell wrote that?
Is it me or could he be the New Zealand answer to Jose Mourinho? Talks a big game and doesn't deliver ?? Although Jose did.

Can't be bothered listening, how did he justify Prelevic over Keat
From what a took from it, Keat is a good player, but old, and Prelavic is one of his favourites who he sees as up and coming. Plus the plan was to have lots of contact time with a young squad with the Nations cup tournament, Olympics, then Group Stage qualifiers.
Keat too old, but Fallon and Smeltz are in their prime?
I would love to slip Hudson and NZF some truth serum and ask some questions... a mountain of potential gold!

Interesting article, with some relevant stats to NZ football and AWs
http://www.stuff.co.nz/sport/football/world-game/8...
My take is that the AWs will NEVER have talent pool of bigger nations (esp in midfield) - and will therefore ALWAYS have less possession in a game. Especially true as against bigger nations, they most likely be playing away from home, or at best a neutral venue.
So need to develop a playing style that makes them competitive, and capable of winning against sides with more talent, and likely 60% plus of the ball.
Someone from NZF should definitely get on a plane to Reykjavik. For Iceland to have 600 qualified coaches, 400 with UEFA B licences for only 21,000 registered players - is very impressive & obviously producing results. This may just be a one off 'golden generation' of Icelandic footballers, with some flukey wins (I've watched very little of the Euros) or who knows a sustainable national programme that will keep producing results.
Realise that in NZ Rugby Union grabs the vast majority of sponsorship dollars, and naturally gifted athletes, plus there is factor of geographic isolation - but NZF should be looking very closely at some of these smaller European countries and how they 'box above their weight'.
I thought it was a pretty poor article, the main benefit Iceland has is regular competitive games against top opposition which we will never have. Also it could very well be a golden generation and something that they can't replicate when these players fade and retire.

However what they have done is good. NZF should have a minimum of a OFC A licence to coach in the ASB Prem as this should also be the standard for OFC champions league.
