I miss Freddy , not the most talented Splodge but promising ....
Anthony Hudson (FAT Technical Director | Thailand)
I tuned in hoping to hear a bit more about the "Beyond Football" plan but all we got was a sudden realization and revelation that Sigmund has finally discovered that football is a passing game! This is down to Merrick and nothing to do with Hudson.
There was a little more Blatter Bullshark about Oceania to get a full spot for the World Cup.( if he gets re-elected ) .Blatter can promise all he wants but it is not his final decision.
So I was pretty disappointed with the interview especially as it clashed with the futsal final in Auckland. I thought Hudson may have called in to watch the futsal ( for all I know maybe he did but he was not there for the final ).
The "Beyond Football" plan is purely that - only concerned with football. It briefly mentions futsal and to the best of my knowledge nothing about Beach Soccer - all disciplines that come under NZ Football.

Some really good Futsal on show today in the semi's and final. Hudson could've had a chat to a Brazilian or two about playing at a higher level. Save on airfares chasing unknown talent in UK.
Fair enough, I just remembered him being talked up a while ago and had no idea what happened to him
he has talent, no doubt - but has made some poor football choices in what are crucial years of his career if he wants to kick on.
I think he may have the same manager as SBW... :-)
Maybe an alternative route to the white shirt of NZ for Lopez

I wonder if Anthony is picking Wynton's brain, or if the two men have even met. Anyone know?

Swinging arm. Yellow card! (sarc)
Actually, he did okay with his own career. Suggests he's not a complete dummy. And probably has as good an eye for emerging talent - plus international contacts - as anyone on this site. So why wouldn't the new coach get his input?
Paula Penfold has been talking to one of the most nakedly ambitious people ever to hit sport in this country.
But don't be put off. The way Anthony Hudson is approaching his new job as coach of the All Whites may be just what we need.
- OPINION: Hudson's no nonsense approach
He's not afraid of upsetting anyone as he puts into action his plan to get us to succeed at the 2018 World Cup.
We meet the man to see if he has what it takes.

Burgess in today's Sunday Herald saying Hudson - and NZF - have failed in not making use of Tribulietx's skill set in preparing All Whites and the Under-20's for next year ( this before the win against El Setif).

I am happy that Hudson is AW coach but I have huge respect for Ramon as a coach. These recent results, including the draw with Uzbeckistan are fantastic....and a tribute to his abilities as a coach. These have not been 10 men behind the ball, park the bus type performances....they have played OK football.
Why has he not had any imput at NZF coaching levels? thats the question. Maybe because he was born in Barcelona and not Grimsby
^ It's a difficult one. Ramon is his own man, like many other v good coaches. With him it would probably have to be all or nothing.

But if he's not All Whites coach and he's not Wellington Phoenix coach then what should he do? Surely Auckland City is a better gig than New Zealand under-20s

I think Ramon would make a great Nix or pro coach/manager in general but I don't think he'd ever be an international coach as his style would only lend itself to the big guns of Argentina, Brazil, Germany, France, England etc where its normal for a manger to replace the entire coaching, fitness, tactics and support staff with his own people and I don't see him ever coming close to managaing those sort of nations.

All he (Tribulietx) had to do was get his OFC A(Meh!) or UEFA pro licence. Like Miron Bleiberg (When A-League implemented the AFC rules of A licences to coach in ACL etc), Ramon / Miron seemed licence education is not imported as results or years of experience.
Same goes for Neil Emblen TBH, He knew what was needed to coach the AW's but couldn't be arsed.
So they knew what was needed - honestly fk em.
Mr Positive
Wonder if Merrick will stay after his contract expires, has property in Australia, etc.
I could see Ramon getting a gig in the A-League with a different club if he had the right badges. Newcastle, perhaps?
Auckland is probably still a more attractive prospect with the CWC.
I think he does have the right badges because IIRC he put his name into the AWs coaching hat and that had required certain qualifications that would allow him to coach in the HAL.
I remember when Ramon was interviewed about the AW job he said he knew some players overseas that could represent NZ. Hope Hudson has at least hit him up about them.
Considering Hudson has hit up nearly everyone, one would realistically think they have spoken already.

I'm curious if he's meaning foreigners who played for ACFC that were here long enough to get a kiwi passport, don't know who that would be though.

Well, he certainly laid the ground work for a few (perhaps new) U23 players in the March squad.
I have to say that I like everything he is saying. Up to now results haven't been all that important - following S Korea the blinds are raised.
Guess that means anyone at ASBP level aged over 23 won't be selected. Maybe that is why Musa and Payne have looked elsewhere for gigs.
Good to see NZF trying to assist the younger players to trials overseas.

Payne is still in that Olympic age bracket.

As he said last year, at the thin end of the wedge of talent, we only really have Winston, Tommy and Ryan Thomas playing week in week out at a high level. The rest are playing ASBP/HAL and it needed to be of a higher standard (than ASBP I suspect). He has helped open doors for players to facilitate that and try to solve the problem of getting players into better leagues so good on him.

Kotahitanga. We are one.
what was interesting for me in that article was his comment about preferring a shorter Oceania qualification so they could use the time playing better opposition. I think that's a dangerous mindset. The islands are lesser opponents but history says take them lightly at your peril
The New Zealand football team has climbed the FIFA world rankings by six places to 138.

I imagine Hudson is probably putting this in his KPI's for the next position review even though his results are a woeful 1 draw and 3 losses with 0 clean sheets.
Someone asked in the Ineligible dead end roads to Russia thread what Hudson does half the year. This is, in part, what he does. He talks his CV up in well respected media circles; in this case These Football Times. The interview was done mid U20 World Cup -
“My role here is to oversee and align the whole football set-up from U17 to first team – one style of play. Our U20s have just made history, qualifying out of their group at a World Cup – never been done in 30 odd years of trying at any level.”
The interview is pre 'Wynning in PNG'.

30years of trying and the U20 boys finally get their easiest group at a U20 world cup and win a game.. and Hudson is making a claim he helped with that. Classic
