I see Rooney moaned after the match about fans booing. Does he have any idea how much it would have cost these people to get out to South Africa to actually watch this sh*te?

Kind of related to above.
Bearing in mind I lived in Londpn for twenty years. I could never get my head around the vitriol that can  be delivered to the England team and the England manager. It was always so black and white. They win they are gods. They lose they are &^%&^%$&^$#&^$%&$*&%&^ and worse.

For years the red tops (previously tabloids) have driven this kind of thinking. Many people, NOT ALL of course, have grown up being BRAINWASHED by these and follow the headline "arguments" every time.
I remember one World Cuo tie at Wembley and it was like being surrounded by a baying mob not a football crowd. The abuse , NOT SUPPORT, poured down on the team from kickoff and yet immediatelyy they scored (won 3-0) they were feted...  All very odd/disturbing...

Profile pic. Should you be interested. Lakhsen, on the right, lost touch with him.
Mohammed, on the left, I'm still in touch with. He's now living in Agadez, Niger. More focused on his animals now as tourism has dried up. Is active with a co-op promoting local goods, leather work and bijouterie, into Europe.

Totally agree, but when you have been allowed to make so much money for doing so very little, in a job that people dream about and then give such a poor performance then for the first time ever I'd f*ckin boo him myself.

He is supposed to be this big working class-firebrand and world class player. He looked today that he was chemically restrained and not interested. I remember watching the match when he made a futile run back and then he missed a tackle, thinking, "hang on mate you f*cking managed that tackle in the advert!".

Times are hard and people have sacrificed a lot to make it to south africa and I mean a lot, those folk should at least be given the respect of a performance where you look like you give a sh*t.

If you have spin doctors making you out to be the new Robin Hood or King Arthur or whatever, well if you then choose to stroll about in a sulk or hung over, then you deserve to get booed.

Well that's the entire problem with England, and has been ever since they started competing in the World Cup.

Their level of arrogance and the English media portraying them as Gods/Robin Hood/King Arthur, when they play more like the Queen Mother and Prince Charles.

There is no doubt England have always had the talent to win their games, and should be doing a lot better.
But things really won't improve until they change their mindset.

Yes true in about 1950 to say 1970 after that I don't think so.

Th average England fan never expects us to win the world cup, most of us aren't this mindless mob controlled by the media without freewill that we are portrayed.  What we ask of the players is they actually give a sh*t when they play. Our most successful campaigns under El Tel and Bobby Robson compared to other squads were nowhere near the best, we knew that.

As far as talent goes, we have been punching well above our weight for years. The coaching system that focuses on strength and physical prowess rather than skill and talent has been dragging us down for ages. We are just only seeing it now.

England has the talent and skill, but they take the wrong approach in the on-field decision-making. They should be able to work more for the possession control game and keeping it simple and be patience on the ball and let the other team open up the spaces for them. They should own the game more. The coaching has worked on talent development but the playing mentality is on the physical and the tactical over creativity and game control.

But outside Steven Gerrard and maybe Wayne Rooney and perhap Frank Lampard, the rest are not cutting it. They need a Paul Scoles, but he had too much ego to answer England's call for help. [worried about taking another players place? what PC nonsense, he just does not love England enough and someone is alway left out if they are not good enough] Fabio Capello knew he was in trouble with the players that he had when called for players to come back.

England are yet to learn to take one thing at a time, I feel.AllWhitebelievr2010-06-19 11:13:33

Think Beckenbauer called it just a few days ago when he said England still play kick and rush football. It seems like no one is capable of receiving, holding it up, then laying off a short pass to a nearby team mate.

Three for me, and two for them.

Not what I've heard/read about at most clubs. I've heard numerous reports that kids considered too small were dropped no matter how talented they were due their size. "cuse they'd be knocked off the ball'. Agree with the rest mind.

To be fair, I thought they'd win 2-0 with a couple of goals out of nothing in an otherwise rubbish performance. Turns out they just missed out the 2 goals part or I would've been right!

It is a new youth development scheme and not as wide spread as it should be. We are doing the same over here as well. It's going to take them about 15 years before we see the results of some of their young players. But the coaching development has to be in place first. For us, it would about 20+ years. Basically, it works on Technical/tactial, Physical/conditioning, Social/emotional and Mental/cognitive aspects of the young players development.

Sad but true landscape of the EPL. Not much home-grown players as it should be. It differs to how the Spanish league and the Italian league is done.

And long ball.

F#ck you Three Lions! You do this to me every four years (since 1974). Each time I think you've learned from the past.

No wonder Teh Trunk calls you the "International Spurs"

(Probably why I never learn either)

I can't remember a worst performance by England.
They are way better than that. Johnson is one of the worst defenders I have seen. Lampard might be good for Chelsea, but very average for National team. Barry to me is the most overated plater in England. Rooney was poor.
I would play Crouch & Joe Cole.

Agreed about Johnson, Leggy. Coincidentally posted this observation on the match thread. I'm sure you'd agree that Tony Lochhead is a better wing back. Wouldn't you?

I'm shocked by the mistakes of Capello.

ok... he is unlucky in this moment: Rooney is not in condition to play... heskey is generous but he doesn't know what means score a goal... Lampard is a ghost...Terry is the only good defender (and he is not playing very well)... apparently in all England there is not a decent goalkeeper...

but however it's incredible what Capello made!
the team is without personality, doesn't run, doesn't press, is without ideas...
there is not a glimmer of tactics... they are totally confused... rooney plays in the wrong position...
english have always played "kick and run", they took Capello to improve their tactics
Capello.... Capelloooo... i don't recognize you!!!
the defense ... at least the defense..Capello!!! you are italian!!! there is the panic in defense!

It is a bit Harry. Still, in 86 we started badly. In 90 we started slowly. Fingers crossed that Capello manages to wake the team up somehow. If we play like that against Slovenia... shudder.

If Green had not cocked up, us and Slovenia would only need a draw. Grr.

Interesting how first/second in the group isn't clear as to which will face Germany anymore. Though, if we allow ourselves the luxury of looking ahead, second place in the group will be on course to meet Argentina in the quarters. Not that the distinction matters anymore - now it's just a case of getting through. Knockout mode arrives a game early for us.

rooney was getting no good service from midfield so was dropping back deeper and deeper to get the ball which just left big heskey up front, one could see early on that a goal was going to be hard to come by

I dislike every England sports team except their football team. And so them not even qualifying from what was supposed to be an easy group would truly shock.

I actually hope Capello takes some of Terry's comments to heart and that England go through.

At the level of players? Or the fans?

For the fans, it can be. Especially when you get all the foreign glory hunters arbitrarily choosing which one of the big four teams they're going to "support" on their television screen and then bag or troll England threads!

For the players, possibly. Two thirds of the EPL players aren't English. The owners aren't English. The managers aren't English. And the league want to play game 39 out of England. Not exactly a recipe for national unity is it?

Wonder if that's why you see so many 'Mansfield Town' type banners at England games? Not taking the piss, just wonder if supporters of teams in the lower leagues can identify more, for the reasons you've stated.Jag2010-06-22 16:15:52

Apparently I'm apathetic, but I couldn't care less.

Possibly. Certainly all my friends from back home who continue to attend England games are fans of lower league clubs, but that's just my anecdotal experience.
