I dont see banning the music traditions of fans in their own country. Would you want to see a ban on the fan traditions in your country?"</SPAN></SPAN>

I think it's fair for them to be around when South Africa plays, but if a Englishman came to the rof for the Phoenix vs GCU and spent the whole time singing Rule Britannia I imagine it wouldn't take us long to tell him to shut up. (yes, I am going to ignore the difference between our home and a game in another country)
In making quite a ridiculous comparison of completely different situations, the South Africans can stick their vuvuzela's up their arse's when their team is not playing.

It's not just South Africans, though. I have seen countless photos of fans from all countries getting into the local spirit of things and getting their vuvu on.

My thoughts are that the poorer South Africans were given free Vuvuzelas and have very little idea of the effect that it has to everyone else on TV, players, etc. For them, they may have never really experience the way the crowds from the rest of the world enjoyed their football experience. As well as the fact that not many of them have access to the internet or to the international media.

And the prize for the most patronising post on the forum goes to....

No, it was introduced here 6 years ago because it's a long term thing in South AFrica.
According to the Fifa WC guidebook i bought in the weekend, they were introduced in the 90s.

Whether they've been around for 5 minutes, or since the beginning of time, I now retract my earlier statement that I like the song they're playing.

If they've given away/sold thousands of them, and been using them for decades, surely the fans could have learnt to play more than one tune on the f%^&ing things?

not all is bad on the vuvuzela front
I use mine at all sporting events I attend. 7 & Under girls soccer matches, poker games, old men playing chess in the park, spelling bees...
Profile pic. Should you be interested. Lakhsen, on the right, lost touch with him.
Mohammed, on the left, I'm still in touch with. He's now living in Agadez, Niger. More focused on his animals now as tourism has dried up. Is active with a co-op promoting local goods, leather work and bijouterie, into Europe.

Does anyone in Wellington have an (authentic) vuvuzela that might be available to be blown (in triumph) tomorrow morning, sometime between 7 and 9 am.?  I know someone who is looking for such a thing ...

I liked Nellys comment about the Vuvuzellas

"We don't play in front of rugby crowds, we actually have atmospheres, people actually sing and yell and all that, so we're kind of used to it," the All Whites skipper said with a smile.

Ha nice little dig there

From Stuff

"Nelsen dismissed the impact of vuvezela blasts on tender All Whites eardrums, saying:  "Most of the time you get tired of Ricki barking at you from the sidelines, so you can't hear him now which is an absolute blessing.''

Campbell Live intro:

The little creep holding up a vuvu and saying

"Is this the most obnxious noise around?"

Nice irony there.

They should all be collected up and recycled into something useful.

They are a f**ken annoyance.

About the only people who would really enjoy them are the hearing specialists when  people start showing up with hearing problems. Ka-ching - That's the sound of the cash register ringing.

according to stuff PAX last night was 23,871 (they shd hva played at ROF so we cd add 10,000) and was the first game I really heard the crowd noise, the group indrawn breaths and the groans. cd hear basic chants but hard to make out quite what they were but was a vast improvement on other matches. not sure if vuvezelas were drowned out by white noise or wether cause less locals were at the match as a percentage of the total

Do you think they'll dwindle as the tournament progresses? Its only the South African fans that love these things right?

Has anyone messed around with the sound equalizer on your TV's? To see if you can lower the Vuvuzela noise. supposedly lowering the 300Mhz bit will minimize the sound of them.

(I guess this is on another page, but too lazy to look)
