Feels if we draw the family bow the nix were rorting the cap for years

How so? Your gonna go with some of the wives working in the ol' nix store back in the day - no idea what they were being paid but I doubt it was anything more than standard retail wages. I'm not aware of any other family members working within the nix machine - besides all those employees got moved on during covid and maybe even earlier - there's almost noone in the back office now.

None of Keoghs family members worked for Perth, that's what made it so blatant.
I don't see how the Nix would rort the cap when they barely spend the cap and usually have at least one marquee slot free. If they wanted to spend more than the cap they have legitimate means to do it.

You need to be careful here.

We’re not talking about jobs kept in the family.

The Perth example was a deliberate overpayment, much more than the service was worth, specifically to top up Keogh’s wages. This was the understanding by both parties and on tape iirc.

Oh, this is embarrassing. In the article the A-Leagues put out about the Caceres Rule changes, it mentions the salary cap implications of it for 24/25.

https://aleagues.com.au/news/caceres-clause-phase-out-what-it-means-isuzu-ute-aleague-2025-26/

2. Salary cap treatment
For a player returning to the A-Leagues from an overseas parent club, the Australian Professional Leagues (APL) will have the final say on what salary will be applied within their new club’s salary cap.

The APL will consider applying the higher of either:
a) The player’s salary at their former A-Leagues at the time of the transfer, or;
b) The player’s salary at the purchasing/parent club at the time of the loan back to the A-Leagues

Assume he can no longer fit under the cap with clause b.

Bournemouth appear to be frontrunners in the race to sign Caoimhin Kelleher from Liverpool - not ideal for Paulsen's chances going forward, given Kelleher is only 26 and very good. Not sure if there's a more intriguing off-season coming up for any other kiwi player at the moment. Would hate to see him loaned back to AFC again, was painful enough the first time around.

In my opinion I feel if he doesn’t go to a lvl above ALM next season then he will never make the Bournemouth 1st team…… infact im almost expecting them to sell him to Auckland for a song

That would be a dissappointing end to that chapter of his career. He may well get other offers (he's way too good for the Aleague).

I’d be following the keeper situations at FC Lorient and Hibernian more than Bournemouth for the moment. Foley also acquiring a stake in Portuguese club Moreirense

Had a look at HIbs the other day. I think their current keeper is on loan so logic is that may be a good place for him next year

Yes he needs to go. Hibs sounds fine. Staying another year in the A league, he may as well have stayed at Wellington. As seasons have turned out would probably have tested him more than AFC

By the time the end of the season rolls around in this part of the world I'd expect him to be packing his bags permanently for Europe.

He has nothing left to prove in the A-League, as he's already the best goalkeeper on show by quite some distance. Anything that keeps him down here any longer would just be further delaying his development.

If he's in the A-League next year you'd have to think he'd start to regret his choices. Shouldn't have even been here this year, his club prioritized sticking one to the Nix over his development.

I thoroughly agree with everything being said here

Also, the higher you go the faster the ball moves and the more it moves.

He needs to be training with players who consistently hit the ball hard and with real whip.

So even training at Bournemouth as a 3rd choice would probably be a better place for him next season.

By way of a barometer, 24 yr old Joe Gauci has been on loan at Barnsley in League One from Aston Villa since February. He was around the Villa EPL squad for about 12 months, being on the pine for 15 EPL games.

Gauci (injured at the moment?) pushing Matt Ryan to be the Socceroos first choice keeper

Just watching The Athletic FC Podcast - Inside the world of multi-club ownership. Interviewing the business guy in the Black Knights Group who is based at Bournemouth. He basically said Alex will probably be at Hibs next year.

Nix said something similar last season - yet his aprent club saw fit to loan him back to the league - I'd excpect he'll be in Europe next season though

Hibs are looking on track for Europe, could potentially join the likes of Wood, Bindon, Stamenic and Bell.

McCowatt will also be playing European football if Silkeborg again win the Danish Cup final. Though they will be heavy underdogs against FC Copenhagen.

And yeah time for Paulsen to test himself in Europe. Couple of keepers leaving Hibs by the sound of it.

https://www.dailyrecord.co.uk/sport/football/football-transfer-news/raphael-sallinger-hibs-transfer-target-35206186

Raphael Sallinger a Hibs transfer target as Bournemouth keeper also eyed in potential keeper shakeup. The Austrian shotstopper has a release clause that Hibs know they can trigger as they hunt for a new keeper for next season.

David Gray is keen to bring a new keeper this summer and the 29-year-old is one of the shot-stopping options that the Easter Road club is looking closely at.

Sallinger has impressed in the Austrian Bundesliga in recent seasons. He still has a year left in his contract but he has a release clause that Hibs know they can trigger.

Sallinger has had previous spells at Kalsdorf, Kaiserslautern and Wolfsberger.
Hibs also have an interest in Bournemouth keeper Alex Paulsen. He has been on loan at fellow Black Knight club Auckland.

Jordan Smith is under contract at Easter Road for next season but Josef Bursik will return to Club Brugge when his loan ends.

Back-up Max Boruc will also depart this summer
when his contract expires.

He had to go on loan to get a visa?.  Huh.  Doesn't the league sign players from all around the world and sort visas pretty much immediately.  Help me out people, what am I missing?

very weak excuse. Visa's can be sorted in weeks, not an entire season.

I think he probably had to make up on the Whites caps(visa eligibility requirements) as he probably doesn't have an EU passport and because the All Whites are not in the Top "what ever world ranking". I think

Whoops, posted and never checked back. Yeah, he needed more AW caps to meet the set criteria for a work permit.

I honestly don't think going to Hibs would be a great career move for him. Sure, it's part of the same ownership group as his parent club, but a kid of his ability should play in a more competitive league I feel. He was the best GK in the A-League for two seasons in a row. I'd rather see him in the Netherlands, Belgium or maybe Sweden or even L1/the Championship

Wherever he ends up, he needs to play regularly. With the talk Hibs are looking at signing another visa GK as well, I would worry about his chances of getting 30+ games under his belt.

Agree massively. Players move from SPL to League One all the time, it doesn't feel nearly enough of a step up. Would be disappointed if he ends up there.

Can’t think of a more beautiful city in England as well.

I think we've got to look at it this more long term.

Hibs isn't going to be the destination, it's merely part of the wider journey. The lad could easily have 10-15 + years ahead of him at the very upper levels in game over in Europe, so if he nails the next 1-2 years over there then the world will be his oyster.

I for one wouldn't mind seeing him over there for the 25/26 season. Chuck in the Europa League qualification rounds and potential group stage appearances, then all going well he could end up seeing close to 50 appearances across all competitions. It would represent a step forward in his development playing 2-3 times a week over there, compared to playing weekly for 6-7 months of the year back here.

Just my opinion.

Look at Libby started off at a middling Belgian club and almost immediately was starting. 18 mths later the dream move to the Serie A. Roma rumours now

Compare that to Singh, who goes to a huge club in Bayern, but now his career has very much stagnated. Admittedly injury and I suspect Covid period (when he seemed very miserable in Duestchland) have contributed to that

That seems like a mis-read imo.

He’s saying going to Hibs would mean living in a beautiful city and that the league one locations in England don’t have nearly as much going for them…I think.

If I was Paulsen i would be looking to go somewhere where there was a reasonable chance of getting game time. At his age he could end up being number 3 or 2 keeper for years at a big club. Its just the way it is for his playing position.

Agree with this take. There ain't nothing for your goalkeeping like goalkeeping. We know he has the goods and the caliber of a big club will come one day for now best thing is to keep starting regularly and sharpening those tools. Would hate to see him stuck warming the bench after the rip roar start to his career that he's had. I think I was still in nappies last time Michael Woud made a professional start anywhere
