And with that goal, Wood is now Forest’s outright all time leading PL goalscorer.

Still holds the record for Burnley.

Very odd goal to score. Great header back across goal but no idea how either the keeper or defenders have not dealt with it somehow.

Three for me, and two for them.

He’s scored two or three like that now.

I think it’s a very new United combination with Yoro playing his first game back after injury, new manager, keeper had a moment for the Gibbs-White goal and I think also he always gets a bit more distance and precision on his headers than you’d think.

Or to put it another way- it’s United.

It might even be 4 goals like that of late. At least 1 for the AWs. It's something he obviously practices - the header on the angle back across goal away from the keeper.

Sometimes like last night, it doesn't have much power on it, and it looks like it should be saved, but it still goes in. Working for the Woodsman, so keep doing it I guess.

Who else, Wood equalises for Forest! 11 for the season now.

Fudge, VAR have ruled it out, Elanga judged to have been offside in the build-up.

Forest equalise through Milenkovic.

Elanga wins it late for Forest, sucks Wood had his goal earlier ruled out though.

Goal should have stood, really dislike how a a goal can be ruled out by fractions!
They need to go back to the "clear and obvious" par tof when VAR gets involved. If they have to take more than one or two looks at it let the goal stand.

Watched it back a couple. Fairly sure it’s a square for Anderson. The defense waits for him to play at it. He doesn’t and it drops in. And they’re at 6s and 7s.

He’s slowing down a bit in his goal scoring. Missed ones he might have got. Hoping he can have another run where he has a couple of braces  or even a hatty to really lock in the 20 goals.

No-brainer this. I know he probably doesn't need it either, but a nice little pay bump, and say, a two year extension would be brilliant.

Defiantly done enough with his time at Notts to deserve a decent pay rise and extension.
54 games (not all starts)
25 goals
Probably hitting his best form last season continuing it on to this.

Damn. When i read Forest were planning an announcement about Chris Wood i thought it was to confirm his immediate transfer to Wellington Phoenix.
Maybe in 3 or 4 years time

Doubt it the little club north of the Bombays will be splashing the cash if he is to ever head this way.

For now, we’ve just had a week without a Chris Wood goal but there were two key instances where he could have scored and both of them happened to emphasise something that The Athletic also highlighted in a recent piece where they spoke to a few different folks about the enigma of The Woodsman. One of those was his coach who had this to say...

Nuno Espirito Santo: “So many things [make him effective]. His movement. Chris predicts five seconds before what the next two or three things to happen will be. It is something you only acquire through time. Realising the tempo of the game, knowing what your team-mate is going to do. He anticipates where the space will be. It is not something you can coach. It is in him already. Thank God.”

And then that was echoed by former Forest forward Robbie Earnshaw..
Earnshaw: “Do you know what scores you goals? Movement. There are the little moments, the two or three seconds before, where you have to put yourself in the right place at the right time. Then it is down to your finishing. But the movement is what gets you the chances. He creates space. He is not an old-school target man. He is much more. He has decent speed, he gets in behind and gets himself one-on-ones. Then there was the goal against Leicester when he turned brilliantly and found the bottom corner. He scores from all sorts of situations.”

Think of how he made those anticipatory movements prior to the disallowed goal and the winner that never made it to him. He’s reacting to things that haven’t even happened yet. That’s one of his crucial secrets. Small and subtle but super effective positioning.

The Guardian have started their naming of the worlds top 100 mens footballers for 2024. Just released 70 - 100, not in that range. I'm picking somewhere round 40.
He didnt make last years list at all, but has had a very good year

Hope you are right but think it is a big call if he made the top 100

Isak was 90 to give some perspective

Would be insane if he wasnt in the 100 somewhere.

Wood hasn’t made it into the range 40 – 70 released today.

In that are Kyle Walker 68, Trent Alexander-Arnold 66, Bruno Fernandes 63, Son Heung-min 60, Gabriel Magalhaes 57, Ollie Watkins 54, Ederson 50, Josko Gvardiol 45.

So if he does feature, it will be below 40.

Guys I think we have to take it for granted he’s not there

I for one am furious he didn't make anyone's top 3 players in the Fifa Best awards. He even got a vote himself (as NZ captain) and didn't even give himself a cheeky bronze!

Damn. Not in the group 11 to 40, so thats that.
Still my no 1 though 😁

Wood with two looks in the first half. Had a sighter fairly much straight at the keeper. Then should have scored off a great ball from Anderson. A strong header down saved by a scrambling Frecken.  Should have put it further from the keeper. Not for the first time Anderson must feel cheated of an assist! Hopefully Wood can start to put those away.

Possibly should have done better for the goal. Flat cross pulled back from Williams across the box. Wood dives towards it taking the defenders with him, but completely missing the ball, leaving Ola Aina free behind him to rifle it into the bottom corner.

Wood’s scoring rate has slowed a little of late- hopefully he can knock at least a couple in second dig!

Forest will be hoping for at least one more to give themselves a chance to hang in for the win.

2-0 Elanga pounces on an error in passing. Wood drags a CB out of position with a run and Elanga picks up his second of the season.

Didn't watch the game but according to Google, Wood had three shots, were any of them close to being a goal?

One really good one, thought he’d scored, great team build up and delivery and a fantastic save, unfortunately. Could have tried to place it more in the corner perhaps.

A few good linking touches. Lots of pressing.

Elanga in good form and seeing Gibbs-White and Anderson operating together was seeing a team beginning to believe that they might actually belong in the top half. Hudson-Odoi stringing a few good games together too.

Can’t think of the third shot, so either I nodded off or it wasn’t that memorable.

Arsenal fairly sure they didn’t want Forest jumping them on the ladder though huh?

Just got tickets to Forest v Southampton next month. Given Southampton’s form I’m confident of a hatrick for the Woodsman.

Elanga is red hot and puts Forest 1-0 up at home!

Wood has been a tidy pivot, without being individually threatening as of yet.

Wood off for Awoniyi in 87th min (1-0) in a 1-0 win.
Forest keep trucking on, and again go above Arsenal into 3rd.
Gunners play Ipswich tomorrow. Chelsea (2nd) lost 1-2 to Fulham, so Forest actually sit only a point behind the Blues now.

Forests's last game in 2024 is a trip to Everton, when the season will be at the half way mark.

Woodsman hasn't scored in Forest's last 3 EPL games, which almost seems a drought. Hopefully he can get on the scoresheet at Goodison Park, to help towards that 20 goals for the season target. No doubt Dyche and Tarkowski will have a plan to contain their former team mate.

Another solid win. European football for next season is not a crazy suggestion now, especially if England gets 8 or even 9 places. Would be great for him to get a third European campaign of his career.

Did seem like there were a couple of plans to get the ball to him, but he did a lot of dropping deep and moving it on one-touch. And using him as a decoy.

And with Elanga, one of his main sources of assists, in red hot scoring form he’s less likely to pass it!

No real chances for Wood in the first half I saw. But the Japanese commentators did say he was unlucky last week, calling Flecken’s effort a ‘super save.’
