Probably a question for Mr Hudson - I know Gleeson hasn't ruled himself out of selection so either Hudson doesn't rate him or doesn't want him in the team for some reason  - could be related to the drink driving incident a while back.

I thought it was due to Hudson not being happy with his commitment to the AWs? I seem to recall that when he got recalled to the AWs, he left the camp early to go back to Portland because he wasn't able to play the second game due to a groin injury.

Could well be it. Trying to follow Hudson's logic is never the easiest of tasks, although that would be strange given he's been releasing players early to keep clubs happy in recent times. Then again, it is Hudson so who knows?!

Hudson explained a while ago that Gleeson turned down a call so was waiting for him to express his desire to play for the AW again, same case as Boyd

Do you really believe the BS Hudson talks?

He sees us as a stepping stone to stardom so surely should be selecting the best 24 kiwis available and starting with OUR bext XI, not his best XI acolytes.

He should be swooning over Gleeson, Boyd, Fitgerald to polish that turd of a CV of his. Otherwise a tanking against Peru will doom him to never coaching at the level he THINKS he can.

I believe him. That doesn't mean I agree with what he has done. I do think Gleeson turned down that call but waiting for him to say 'hey i want to be back' is kind of naive IMO. Give the man a call and see if he is ready to be bart of the NT again. I also think we need our best 23 in the squad no matter what

Gleeson left usa/mex camp last year early to not sit on the bench for us and go back to his club. Boyd turned down ofc nations cup selection.

wasn't gleeson injured at the time? and that is why he returned to his club rather then staying with national team. Or is that what we were just told at the time as a bit of a cover.

Portland host Houston in 2nd leg of Western Conference semi. 0-0 after 1st leg. Winner plays Seattle in Conference final.

Gleeson on the bench.

Gleeson’s MLS season is over as Portland lose 1-2 at home to Houston.

Bad 6-12 mths for Gleeson with a few injuries, losing his starting spot at the Timbers, and falling out with AWs coaching staff on that North American tour last year. He may have only been no 2 keeper behind Marinovic, but some part of him must be disappointed not to be involved in these huge Peru games. May never get chance again.

Boyd and Gleeson back by Friday next week if things don't go to plan

And what's the bet, that if by some miracle it does go to plan and the AWs end up Russia bound, both the pariahs suddenly remember Hudson's phone number.

As they say it is better to be pissing in the tent then outside it

Quite appropriate considering his major rival is doing just that

Correct me if I am wrong, but isn't that how we got Winston Reid and Tommy Smith on board?

Yeah but to be fair to them they had a choice to make between representing NZ and trying to make the full Denmark/England squads.

You know we belong together...

As did Rory when he chose England over us (made sense at the time I think).

I hope there is another gem or two waiting in the wings - young players with aspirations to play with other nations who then go... screw it NZ it is.

Timbers coach gone

Jake mentioned as an option for LA Galaxy in this article. He still has a year to run on his Portland contract. Would have been a good replacement in time for Tim Howard at Colorado Rapids but that's not likely to happen now with a certain coach being linked with them.

On one hand it’s a bit scary because Galaxy were the sharktiest team in the league last season; on the other hand he’d be alongside legitimately huge names like the dos Santos brothers at the most famous club in the USA. Hope it goes through, he’d start!

Will he come back into AW contention? Hopefully the next AW coach has an open mind about people who may not have got on so well with Anthony H.

Now Hudson is gone, will this guy have a chance to get back in the squad? The only real goalkeeper good enough to compete with Stefan.

You would hope that someone from the Nix at least reached out and took him it for lunch or something while he was here though.

We have 2 keepers signed for next season already.

Starts first Timbers game a 1-2 loss away to LA Galaxy.

Maybe keeping rival Attinella is injured as he wasn’t on the bench. Be good to see Gleeson back in AWs squad later this month - though again MLS games clash with the Canada match.

No Tuiloma in match day squad.

No way Gleeson goes to Spain, especially now he's No 1 again.

Portland visit New York. Gleeson in goal and Tuiloma on the bench, his first MLS match day squad.

Portland hammered 4 zip. No minutes for Tuiloma
