Panathinaikos failed to qualify for the Champions League after they could only draw 0-0 with Malaga in the return leg in Athens this morning. This means they'll be competing in the Europa League this season.

Kosta wasn't in the squad for the game.

Okay, second New Zealander... forgot about Bright's couple of months at Panserraikos - Bright tends to drift around the leagues and stays no more than a season  at each club (often less) - let's hope he has a better time than Bright who played only six games before having his 18 month contract cancelled by mutual consent (unpaid wages or some such).

Good he's playing every league game currently - understandable he was omitted from Champions Lge qualifier with coach rotating squad due to only three days between Saturday night league game and Tuesday night Chmps Lge qaulifier.

PANA'S EUROPA LEAGUE GROUP (FIRST ROUND PLAYED 20/9/12) : TOTTENHAM, LAZIO, MARIBOR

Tottenham and Lazio have been drawn into one of the toughest groups of the Europa League.

The two teams will meet Panathinaikos and Maribor in Group J of the tournament.

"Both Tottenham and Lazio are big European clubs," Panathinaikos midfielder Pape Sow said. "The London side especially is not the best draw we could hope for. As for Maribor, I don't know them that well, but to have reached the group stage of the competition means that they are good."

Awesome prospect for Kosta to have chance to play against Spurs (who made some big-name signings this week) and Lazio.

Kosta not in the squad for Pana's 1-0 away loss to Panthrakikos yesterday- understandable considering the amount of travelling Kosta did last week (minimum 29 hour flight to Athens with stopovers and then another flight to an away game). Leaves Panathinaikos ninth on the Greek table...

Game was notable for Greek Super League debut of another Oceania player, Marama Vahirua from Tahiti, who started up front, on loan to Panthrakikos from Nancy in French Ligue 1. He was named in Tahiti's squad for the recent round of Oceania World Cup qualifiers but had to pull out with the Tahiti coach's agreement to shift to Greece, as his loan agreement was only made two weeks ago.

Vahirua, one of the best players to ever come out of Oceania, with a fourteen year pedigree in the French top flight, may play against the All Whites in the next round of qualifiers next month.

Will Kosta make the team?

Poor performance from Pana - with no Kosta in squad - saw them brushed aside 3-0 away by lowly Slovenian side Maribor.

Humiliating for a club of Pana's pedigree to be outclassed by a minnow like Maribor who had never won a game in the group stage of the Europa Lge before. This is looking like one of the poorest Panathinaikos sides in history (due to their obvious financial problems).

God knows how Pana will cope against Spurs and Lazio - who drew 0-0 at White Hart Lane. Attracted more publicity from the alleged 'monkey chants' from braindead Lazio supporters directed at Spurs' coloured players...

Pana's next game Tuesday am (NZ time) vs Atromitos in Athens. Surely Kosta will make the squad at least? 

Bit harsh on Maribor, they're not a great side, but they're not the minnow you seem to imply.

Kosta is either injured or already completely fallen from favour- not in the squad again and no appearances since his two in late August.

Another poor result - 1-1 draw at home with lowly Atromitos leaves Pana 13th of 16 teams...

Finished 1-1 with Spurs opening the scoring through Dawson in the 35th  minute and Pana securing a lucky draw through Toche scoring in the 77th min. Pana greatly outplayed apparently but Spurs let the pressure off in the second half...

A first 90 minute shift for Kosta Barbarouses in Panathinaikos colours as the Greek powerhouse brushed aside the challenge of third tier Proodeftiki 4-0 in cup action.  Barbarouses was credited with an assist in the match.

Didn't make the spurs game

Last appearance for barbarouses was on january 23th in a cup game where he played the last 10 minutes. Since then he appeared once in the bench as an unused sub 2 weeks ago.

Listen to the YF pod - explains that he isn't getting game time because Panathanaikos want to buy him and it will be cheaper if he hasn't played. Said he is really enjoying it and think he's part of their long term future.
