Will be an interesting watch to see how this one pans out.
Stamenic made it quite clear last year he has no intentions of playing in the Championship.
Olympiacos taking him back would be odd considering they played him basically no meaningful minutes last season, unless they’re enforced by big boss Marinakis to take him on.
We need him playing heavy minutes heading into the World Cup next year. If that’s at Olympiacos or another T5 League side elsewhere.

Seems there’s a possibility he’ll head on another loan to Olympiakos this season. Really not ideal, that. Greek fans don’t rate him at all, but Marko really wants the move
yeah tbh I had similar thoughts but watching the Greek league last season it was a lot more competitive top to bottom than I first anticipated it would be. The Bottom half teams are are very physical and hard to break down when they tend to sit deep from minute 1.
With the taste of UCL early in his career I can understand why he chooses the leagues he has. European football is hard to turn down when it’s put out infront of you. Although I do think a championship season for him would be great.
Preferably I’ve always wanted to see him in like a mid table Serie A / Bundesliga side. Think he would thrive in that kind of environment. He’s played for some powerhouse clubs like Oly, Red Star and FCK where starts aren’t easy to come by consistently. AucklandPhoenix
I don’t quite understand his aversion to the championship.
It would be better quality than the Danish, Serbian and Greek leagues.
Of little to no relevance, but just to get under the skins of those who think football begins and ends in England.
Last major football title 1966 Ingerland 1992 Denmark 2004 Greece
Hell lets use some artistic licence and give Czechoslovakia's 1976 Euros title to Yugoslavia/Serbia!! The final was in Belgrade Yugoslavia were beaten Euros finalists in 1960 & 1968
I would truth be told also like to see Stamenic in The Championship. If just because it would be easier to watch highlights of his games. But yeah if he sees a return to Olympiakos as being best for him trust his judgement. I'm sure he's had a bit of a talk to his AWs skipper and Forest team mate.
I agree, though the championship has a pretty broad range - his future prospects after a successful season with a Birmingham or a Southampton would be quite different to one with a Derby County or an Oxford United. But yes, agree that a wholesale dismissal of the championship is odd.
Think Championship could be good for Stamenic for the simple fact that he'd get massive exposure in the U.K., esp to Premier league clubs and scouts.
Have a breakout season there and he'd probably land a first team spot at a PL team (either through a transfer or Forrest calling him back and playing him).
I think it's a great training ground for young players wanting to break into the premier league. I guess the higher tier European leagues and clubs like Olympiakos probably fulfil a similar role, but maybe less visible to PL teams/coaches etc.
Why would Marko be keen to return to Olympiacos? Apart from Athens being a wonderful city, the coach didn't rate him all that much last season? Has there been a change? He could do worse than the first tier in Greece, but at the same time he could do a whole lot better
I’m sure Athens would be a better place to live then Middlesbrough but he didn’t tear up trees in Greece and if a championship club was interested I think he should bite their hand off.

Spot on. Going to the Champ makes a lot more sense. He's signed for an English club, a country he has never played in before. Why not go to a Championship side, and learn about some physical football, where the season is a bit of a slog - rather than playing against, I dunno.....Volos FC. Who? Exactly. How is that preparing him for playing in the EPL.....
And Championship is such a long season he’s going to get some game time.
But again, like Libby, you imagine rainy cold Britain doesn’t compare much to the climate of Athens!
yeah Championship squad limitations will require the full 25 players through the year. 46 games for the league is brutal for anyone! Add any extra cup competitions then you're playing a tonne of footy in a 10 month window.

Yes but Olympiakos also have Champions League football, so whoever from PSG, Man City, Real Madrid, Inter, Barca, Bayern etc. Then once the Athens team are out of that, maybe some Europa or UEFA Conference league stuff in 2026.
I imagine alot depends on whether the coaching staff at Olympiakos are promising Marko more game time this season, and what is happening to 18 yr old midfield star Christos Mouzakitis. Is he leaving Athens or staying
Once teams are eliminated out of Europe that’s it no dropping down like the old days.
But you made my point, it’s quite hard to turn down UCL Football especially if the coaches have had a chat with him about what his role could look like. End of last season both parties seemed to be fully set on mutually parting ways but it seems something may have changed.
I’d rather play 8 guaranteed UCL games and potentially more if they make the top 24 which is very much possible to, then play in a wet miserable evening in Preston on a Wednesday night. coochiee

Dont think it matters what European competition Olympiakos are in unless he can secure a promise of some decent game time whats the point of going there to sit on the bench. Surely he has to be better off getting decent game time in the Championship than getting splinters.

And ACFC had Boca, Benfica, and Bayern.......doesn't make it worthwhile playing for them. Your domestic league is your bread and butter football.
I see they recently sold a central midfielder to a Brazilian team for 12 million quid, so the longer he can hang around the scene getting minutes the better.
Forest also have some serious work to do in the transfer market replacing Elanga and likely Gibbs White, which while not in his posi will take their initial focus.
Yeah sentiment was a lot more positive online today re: Marko. One guy even saying he’s an upgrade on Danilo who they just sold to Botafogo for £12 million
90% of the fans are saying he was very good. Some even calling for him to stay on as they think he’s better than Danilo who just left and could be a great backup for Sangere.
I don’t think the rumours of him going back to Olympiacos are real. They’ve signed a couple midfielders in his position this window and I don’t think they’ve gotten rid of any yet.
Unless Mouzakitas is sold and they see Stamenić playing in a No10 role…
Stamenić being able to hold his own at Forest does not surprise me at all. He’s more than capable and it’s no fluke that he’s played at the biggest club in each of Greece, Serbia and Denmark….

The forum I was reading was saying he has no place in the epl 😞
But then one sensible fan said... it's way too early to judge him.
Brutal from expectations from fans for a club that has been avoiding relegation the last few years. They have one good season in the last how many years?
Didnt feature in squad for game against Fulham which featured a string of u21’s. Hopefully a move shortly so he doesn’t miss to much time to establish himself at new club
