http://www.talksport.co.uk/sports-news/football/premier-league/transfer-rumours/120525/nelsen-set-leave-spurs-and-make-mls-switch-172948
we all heard this rumour back in jan but its popped up again
Do you think Tottenham are more or less likely to keep Nelsen after missing out on the Champions League?
They may not need him if they're playing less games, but then again they may not be able to recruit the same quality of players they may have otherwise been able to, and in that case might decide that Nelsen is the best option they've got.
They still have the Europa League, so that is a few more games than normal. Harry previously said they were going to offer him another year. But I guess it will come down to the cost vs the benefit for Spurs.
The Guardian's Rumour Mill suggests Redknapp might be after Jonas Olsson from West Brom - another CB makes it less likely Nelsen will stay. I'd say the MLS rumours will probably turn out to be true.

Thanks to my mum for phoning me from her rest home this morning after hearing this piece of news on National Radio's 8.30 am sports bulletin:
http://www.radionz.co.nz/news/sport/107071/nelsen-may-head-back-to-mls
"The All Whites captain Ryan Nelsen could be about to move back to the United States to play his club football.
Reports in Britain say Nelsen is not being considered in English club Tottenham's long term plans with manager Harry Redknapp planning on an off-season overhaul.
Spurs are close to agreeing a deal with Ajax defender Jan Vertonghen.
Nelsen moved to Spurs from Blackburn in January as injury cover and he made 8 appearances.
34-year-old Nelsen's former club DC United is understood to be among a couple of MLS teams keen on signing him."

Also I notice online that Ryan is still owed money by Blackburn who stopped his payments prematurely:

Some strong comments in support of Ryan from Blackburn fans posted in the feedback under the Mirror article (here is a milder one without expletives !!!):

Just another example of how venkys just simply do not give a toss about the fans wishes and values. ryan nelsen would be paraded through the streets of blackburn on the supporters shoulders as a hero for the loyal service he has given us over the years, yet the owners see it acceptable to treat the man like a dog. words fail me

TODAY'S REPORT FROM NZ MEDIA:
http://www.stuff.co.nz/sport/football/7008614/Nelsen-excited-by-All-Whites-performances
Meanwhile, Nelsen would not be drawn on his future at club level, with reports out of England suggesting the 34-year-old might be surplus to requirements at Tottenham Hotspur next season.
Nelsen was signed mid-season by the London club on a short-term contract till the end of the recently completed Premier League season, but speculation is rife that he will return to the United States, where he began his professional career with Major League side DC United.
''I can't really talk about any of that at the moment, especially the club situation. It's a delicate time. I'm not sure, to tell you the truth, so I can't really say anything,'' Nelsen said.
''Everybody is just kind of enjoying a holiday, enjoying a couple of weeks break and then we'll figure it out once we're refreshed and go from there.''
He also declined to comment on reports earlier this month that he was involved in a dispute with former club Blackburn after they stopped paying him a golden handshake, other than to say the media in England had ''made a mountain out of a molehill''.
Nelsen had 18 months remaining on his contract at Blackburn when they made him a free agent in January, and on his departure he reportedly agreed to accept a reduced wage for the remainder of the term.
But, according to the Daily Mirror, Blackburn were not happy with him subsequently joining Spurs as a free agent - they assumed he was returning to the US - and stopped the monthly payments in March.

Your post is a bit misleading- you've changed the title of the article in your link above- very naughty!!!! (or else the newspaper edited it on realising it was wrong as there has been no confirmed report of Ryan leaving Spurs yet...)
Actual title of the article if you click on the link is "Ryan Nelsen Not Signing with DC United" which is about all the article confirms:
--------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------
Nelsen has yet to sign a new contract with Tottenham Hotspur who he joined on a free transfer from Blackburn Rovers in February.
He made eight appearances, scoring once for the club and earned the praise of manager Harry Redknapp.
However, rumours have been rife that Redknapp is looking to overhaul his squad during the close season and that Nelsen was not part of his long range plans.
Nelsen's agent said he was in discussions with more than one club to remain in the Premier League.
"Ryan will be staying in England," Yorks told MLSsoccer.com.
"He's not in discussions with DC United."

It's the transfer "silly season" and you can't believe a tenth of the rumours flying around...

Ryan Nelsen is listed under Tottenham, in the official Premier League free agents list.
A few rumours of him heading to Ipswich...mainly by their fans. Would be handy for Tommy Smith, picking Ryan's brain on a daily basis.
Wishful thinking for them I suspect, can see him going to a club like Norwich or Stoke and staying in the EPL
Ryan Nelsen is listed under Tottenham, in the official Premier League free agents list.
That's just a list of players whose contracts have ended and haven't signed new deals yet i.e. they may or may not...
It's actually very unreliable and should largely be ignored.
See this report from yesterday in Britain about that list. Ledley King is also on that list and it's only accurate as at May 19.
http://www.dailymail.co.uk/sport/football/article-2153392/Spurs-insist-Ledley-King-future-Lane.html
Tottenham were left perplexed after the Premier League claimed Ledley King had been released — just minutes after the club confirmed he was considering a new contract.
The Premier League published a list of 140 players who have not agreed new deals with their respective clubs and are therefore free to leave.
However, as Sportsmail exclusively revealed on Wednesday, King has been offered fresh terms by Spurs after discussions with the club earlier this week.
Talking to Tottenham’s official website, the 31-year-old said: ‘The club has been fantastic in supporting me and given me several options to stay involved with Tottenham. I shall take a view with them pre-season on my future.’
It is understood King has been offered a new 12-month deal with an option of a further year. However, soon after King’s comments, his name featured on the Premier League list of those who were not being retained by their clubs.
Spurs sources insisted that King has not been released by the club — pointing to the fact the defender is considering a contract proposal. It is understood Friday's released list was accurate up to May 19, hence the reason Paul Scholes — who agreed to stay at Manchester United for a further year last week — is also named.
Queens Park Rangers also had to clarify that Clint Hill, Akos Buzsaky and Radek Cerny had not been released, after the trio were also named despite all being offered new deals to stay at Loftus Road earlier this month.

About to do a Medical at QPR. Boss there is of course Sparky Hughes who brought Ryan to Blackburn in the first place. Kind of Symetrical
No way he'll pass the medical. I mean he couldn't get off his death bed to play in the Solomon's just last week.
I'll be happy if he goes to QPR - two of my heroes playing in the same team albeit about 13 weeks into the season.

2 year contract?
Ryan Nelsen is expected to undergo a medical at Queens Park Rangers on Friday ahead of a free transfer.
The 34-year-old New Zealander left Tottenham Hotspur after the end of his short-term contract and, if all goes well, he expects to sign a two-year deal.

We will never fully decide who has won the football.
Harry Redknapp for All Whites or Phoenix manager? Just a "fantasy football' kind of wild speculation by me.
Yet, Harry has coached here before...well, he was assistant manager of Bournemouth when they toured NZ back in 1982 and played our u-19's and local clubs and regional rep. teams....memories...
It's amazing a team just promoted to the old Third Div. could thrash all and sundry in NZ back then, including against NZ u-19 5-0 and 6-0, winning 7 of 8 tour games on the 17 day tour.
Current AW's coaches Ricki H. and Brian T. played against Bournemouth for Gisborne and Harry Redknapp made his last appearance as a player when Bournemouth were hit by injuries against a Taranaki XI. Several familiar faces for NZ u-19 (Fred de Jong, Ceri Evans, Colin Tuaa). Future Chelsea and Liverpool star Nigel Spackman played for Bournmouth.
Harry R. replaced David Webb as Bournemouth manager the following year and held the position for ten seasons.

http://www.stuff.co.nz/sport/football/7112951/Ryan-Nelsen-signs-with-Queens-Park-Rangers
All Whites captain Ryan Nelsen has confirmed he has signed for English premier league club Queen's Park Rangers, is fit to play in the London Olympic Games and expects to be available for New Zealand's World Cup qualifying games.
Nelsen told The Press late last night from London that he had agreed to a one-year deal with the option of another season and had passed his medical at QPR.
The centre back said his signing was due to be announced early today [NZ Time] after QPR had informed Tottenham Hotspur, his former club, who he joined last February on a six-month contract.
Several clubs were chasing Nelsen but the Cantabrian said the chance to reunite with his former Blackburn Rovers manager Mark Hughes at QPR was too good to turn down.
"I owe him pretty much everything,'' Nelsen said."He gave me my chance over here [at Blackburn in 2005].
"That was a big factor. I know Mark and his staff really well, they all really helped me when I was first over here in England, so it's nice to go full circle towards the end of my career.
"Hopefully, I can still help them out.''

A good move I feel. Last crack at the Premier League, may as well do so in a starting role rather than playing the odd Europa League game

New armband for Mr Nelsen?
QPR v Swansea at Loftus Road on Sunday.

Ryan made his debut in QPR's pre-season 2-2 draw with Bundesliga opponent FC Augsburg in Germany. All Whites captain Ryan Nelsen played the full 90 minutes in the draw and conceded a penalty in the match with saw former French international Djibril Cisse twice equalise for the London-outfit.

QPR (v FC Augsburg): Green, Derry, Ferdinand, Onuoha, Park, Dyer, Cisse, Mackie, Fabio, Nelsen, Hoilett.

Ryan gets a mention in the QPR season preview in the Guardian:
"There has been a sensible craving for security after the team conceded 66 goals in the Premier League season, with only the relegated clubs doing worse. The goalkeeper Rob Green has joined after leaving West Ham. Ryan Nelsen saw little action after a move from Blackburn Rovers to Tottenham Hotspur in January, but Hughes may feel that the know-how of a 34-year-old has a higher value for QPR."
http://www.guardian.co.uk/football/blog/2012/aug/13/premier-league-previews-qpr
Seems like a bit of hack writeup to be honest though. Predicting QPR to finish 11th in the PL is exceedingly generous methinks
People like Coldplay and voted for the Nazis. You can't trust people.
Wonder if he will be starting regularly for them, and if so, surely he's a good bet to be captain?
didnt think it was worth a new thread, this is as good a place as any;
http://www.dailymail.co.uk/sport/football/article-2188297/Premier-League-set-international-yet.html
Great to see 3 NZ'ers in the EPL now (although Chris Wood may be on his way out), great representation considering our previous showings
On the bench this morning.
Might not have too many complaints about that after QPR were spanked 5-0.
Good thing for him, on the right side of a 5 nil thumping if you know what I mean
QPR may be set to sign Spurs CB Dawson for 7.5mil. Seems like an interesting signing considering he is injury prone and 28 years old.
