This time last year I would have said Wagner was a shoe in, hasn't quite been the same bowler this year but agree would be nice to add some variety to the attack. But in saying that in 2-3 years time our pace attack will likely include Boult and Arnel both of whom are left armers I think.
Arnel would be a bit past it in a couple years time wouldnt he? Super nice guy though but i just think he may have "peaked" a little too late to be given a seriuos opportunity at international level. Boult i like but his off field and sometimes on feild attitude need sorting out, but that can come with maturity etc.
Anyway prob not the best time to be talkin about our bowling, the one good thing we got going at the moment.
Batting, its hard to disagree with much of what has been said, I had similar ideas to downey with Watling and Broom in for timmac and fulton, from vettoris comments it sounds like sinclair and how would be doubtful, he mentioned a few names and seemed to be intent on not mentioning them,
If what was said about those cantabury guys not gettin on with sinclair are true then same coule be for dan as he was well schooled by most of those guys too.
I get the feeling the selectors wont be too brash on changes, fulton will go, thats for sure but after that im not sure, Timmac you would think but i wouldnt be surprised to see only one change.
My thoughts anyway.

Why play 5 bowlers when we have taken 20 wickets in the first two tests with 4 bowlers without to much trouble, if Patel plays it has to be for Tuffey.
If they decide on 2 spinners being necessary, it has to be for Elliot. You can't go into a test (even on State Highway 2) with only 2 seamers, and Elliot is NOT a third seamer. If we had Franklin rather than Elliot then sure, no problems, but to go into a test with Elliot as third seamer would be a disaster.

Go Windies! Aussie didn't even really go for the win so I want them to lose even more. 5 down at the moment.
And that Aussie guy was a goof yesterday throwing big tantrums about an umpire not out call. Well mate, you could have gone to the review thing if YOU weren't WRONG about one earlier on and wasted a review. From what I've seen, the umpires have come out right on the review system more than the players have.

How can you bowl a side out for under 300 twice on a very good deck (congrats topleft!
) and lose by 150 runs? Its a f**king joke. Can't believe i'm saying this, and i'm sure that he would make me regret it if it happens, but I think Sinclair needs to come back. Wish Franklin was fit to bowl aswellBell/WatlingHowGuptillTaylorSinclairElliot/Patel (obviously Patel to drop down the order if picked)McCullumVettoriTuffeyO'BrienMartinDon't know if this lot will do any better than what we currently have, but changes have to be made.
Cheers mate! all credit to my boss though. Although we received great feed back, it was very frustrating from our point of view [as well as the rest of the fans] but when you produce a good deck, you like to see runs scored on it! people will probably still doubt that it was a good deck - I guess we'll see how they bat on the road that is Mclean Park.

I don't expect Macintosh to score any runs, I have lost all faith in him. Guptill, Flynn and Elliot have a long way to go and I hope they do get there. If you want to be a successful test cricketer, you have to cut out the dumb brain explosions. It only takes one mistake, one lapse in concentration. I still can't get over the shot Elliot played to get out on day four. I think Guptill and Flynn flash outside off to often when they should be leaving it. They need to iron that out, be quicker at making that particular decision.
Did someone say there was a coaching job going?

Fulton dropped for life. Don't bring in Sinclair, he has mental problems and has been given chances. Bring back Franklin as a batsmen, he could be the Shane Watson of the blackcaps. Every country has at least one consistent master class batsmen, and apart from Taylor New Zealand lack that depth. This lack of depth will ensure we will never be able to compete in every match of test cricket.

No he may not be a masterclass batmsen but he would provide better bowling alternatives to Elliot, and on thier raw stats a better batting option as well, but he is injure so there is no point talking about it really. Its a worry at the moment that NZ do not have a true allrounder in the side, when cairns retires oram easily filled that gap but with oram gone we are found lacking, in vettori we have a bowler who bats very well and in ryder a batsmen who can bowl but niether are yet a tru allrounder, i think maybe ryder can be that in 2-3 years. Gone are those beatiful days where it seemed our entire side could bowl a little, astle, macca, styris, cairns, vettori.
We NEED a coach, i think that is clear, vettori for all his brilliance is not one, but in truth neither was bracewell or that last bloke(name escapes me). I think its good that they are not rushing into appointin a guy but they best come up with something good for the time they want to take.

Papps just scored a big 150 at a run a ball against CD in the OD stuff, is he worth another look for some of the one day stuff?
Was papps ever really given a shot in the side? he played 6 odis performing very wll in his first five then took a 150kph ball from lee in the head in his 6th at eden park, played a couple tests after that and seemed to have a shadow of his former confidence, that was 5 years ago. His record the last couple seasons show he may have grown through that expercince.
I guesse the problem is if he gets recalled and those thoughts come rushing back, i always liked him a bit but was never sure he would fully make it internationally, but yea he wouldnt be the worst option, not by a long way.

Who will be our bowling attack in 2-3yrs time? (assuming Dan by then will be running the single world government and be unable to commit to playing of course...).
I guess Southee... and... ???? And genuine quicks and spinners in their late teens, early 20's around the 1st class scene?

Robbie Schaw ? Leg spinner. And Kane Williamson bowls off spin as well.
Schaw would have a long way to go to be of international quality, and considering he is 25 and dan is only 30 you would be thinking we are lookin at maybe 5 years till we need a replacement spinner, is there any kids out there that are still bowling spin at age group etc?
I think williamson will be a good part timer but not again not a frontlin spinner.

The kid Bracewell at CD, is he a spinner? Couple of promising Leggies at Auckland but I can't imagine them flourishing to much in NZ conditions. Spinners aren't really an issue for 4 or 5 years though

Young kid from ND is impressing with leg spin. I can't remember his name but he played in the ND trial game and travelled round NZ with India/NZ on the tour last year as a net bowler. He is the best future prospect I can think of. Doug Bracewell isn't a spinner, bowls medium pace. It's a matter of when not if for Kane Williamson but he will be a part time bowler, selected for his batting.
