This got me thinking of a new even more limited over form of the game. I am going to call it NO OVER cricket. The teams will toss a coin and the winner of the toss wins the game.

Good too see Bangladesh finally getting a rocket shoved up there arse and told that they can't be mediocre anymore.

Jamie Siddons: "If the boys just keep disobeying the plan you end up with a sh*tty little score like 130."

130 doesn't look so sh*tty to us anymore...

So if we beat Sri Lanka then we're in with a chance to make it through, with us and them as top qualifiers based on Net Run Rate? Also what times the game on? I might get up for it!

Chris Martin returning to Canterbury. We might actually manage to get 20 wickets this season with Bond and Martin as apposed to last season were we struggled to get 10.

I would like to congratulate the Black Caps on another epic failure at a world event. Must have been tough beating Scotland and Ireland.

You guys are aware that Sri Lanka has a population of 20 Million and a culture where kids play Cricket like Brazillian kids play Football, right? New Zealand does exceptionally well as a team, but it is hard to overcome the overall quality of the Sri Lankan side. I'm picking them and SA for the final. Critical_Lemon2009-06-17 14:15:37

CL, its not just that we lost to Sri Lanka, Its that we only scored 100 against Pakistan and 110 against Sri Lanka. So Basically in 2/3 games against decent quality sides we were thrashed and we lost the third we lost by 1 run.

The 1 run loss, as gutting as it is, I can live with. But scores of 99 and 110 are quite simply pathetic particularly with the batsman we have who should love and excel at this form of the game.

CL is right - in general we do peform pretty well for a small nation, however, in this tournament we did not do ourselves any justice, we beat Ireland and scotland - whoopee. Against the Pakis who are not in good nick we lose by capitulating and only scoring 100, then the Sri Lankan - who, admittedly are a very good side biowl us out for 110??

Surely we, as fans deserve better than those two performances?

I think each time we go on about "small nation doing well against big nations" provides justification for mediocrity. Most of our team has been playing in the IPL being paid ridiculous amounts of money, and when they come back together to represent their country in cricket they play rubbish. We've always tried to be competitive on the main stage for cricket and we need to stop justify playing sh*te and giving some players the axe when they're not playing well!

yeah our big guns simply did not show up for this tournament - they'll use the injury excuse of course - mccullum, oram, ryder, vettori, styris etc all carrying or returning from injury - at the end of the day they have to do better than the latest results! Utterly embarrassing!

They do need to do better, but the fact is a lot of our players aren't up to it at that level, so our big players need to fire. What happened against Sri Lanka is that they bowled fantastically and soon enough they were through to the guys that just can't cope with their skill.

From my point of view, it isn't being okay with mediocrity, I actually don't care who wins Cricket games, it's being realistic. The next smallest current test nation is Sri Lanka, with 16 million more people than us. Striving to win is what every sports team needs to do, but why go mental every time you lose to a team of an undoubtedly higher quality?

And we can't afford to drop everyone who plays badly. There are just some players who need to be in the side all the time. Oram isn't one of those IMO, though. I actually don't rate him as more than a decent bowler.

Do you mean the last time in England?

The West Indies is hardly Australia is it?

You get 2 evenly matched sides who have some batting talent and some rain and you'll get draws.

Errr, last Ashes series in England. 2-1 to England. Greatest series of all time. Ring any bells?

The series before that in 01, Aussie won 4-1. A result in every match.

The series before that in 97, Aussie won 3-2. A result in all but one match (six tests that time).

Shall i go on? Or will that be enough?

Three for me, and two for them.

Exactly my point...

I think you've taken what I said the wrong way.

KP said Aus would win 2-1.

SB said it was a best of 5 series (which suggests he thought that the result would higher than 2-1...)

I said That in England it Rains and when it rains you get draws.

So a 2-1 result is entirely possible...

Haddin catches Strauss with his hands infront of the stumps and then Pontin whinges about spirit of the game. I'm not sure if there is a single sportsperson I hate more than Ricky Ponting

Can't you catch a player where ever you want to? I thought it was only stumpings where you needed to be behind the stumps?

KP is right, as soon as the ball has hit the bat (or the batsman for that matter) the keeper can touch the ball as long as he wasn't infront of the stumps before the ball was hit.

In saying that I hate Ponting aswell.

Yes. But as soon as his gloves pass he stumps it should be called a no-ball. And Haddins gloves past the stumps before Strauss hit the ball.

Oh ok, I haven't seen the dismissal so wouldn't know.

Although its Haddin and we all know from his past he's a cheat.
