Could well see Bond giving up tests though.

Wouldn't blame him tbf. Two tests back and he's probably already sick of that rabble.

Three for me, and two for them.

When you're given 37 overs to rest up by your batsmen it's hardly surprising our bowling attack is always injured.

were there many YF'ers there?? I thought I heard a nix chant. Sadly couldn't make it down so had to watch bits on and off on tele.

There were plenty on Friday.

Meanwhile, bowling at Adelaide really must suck. Aussie 0/161 chasing 451. That pitch gets more draws than the Phoenix.

I predict another Windies colapsein their second innings, gifting australia the win.

come on Windies!

O'Brien

Finally can't handle living away from his Pommy wife.  Seems a random time to announce - in the middle of the middle test of the series.  But still

How immediate is this ?

I always liked him. Always tried his hardest. Sad to see him go.

He has played well lately which was encouraging for NZC but he's a peculiar individual. Of all the players I have met, he has been the strangest, and probably the most difficult to deal with. All the best "Gobba".

I haven't read his blogs, but I heard they were a bit weird.

Ahh I think I better try and spare him some dignity. He never means any harm but he appears somewhat deluded at times. Weird is pretty accurate.

I wouldn't say they were weird.  Just very open, and very self analytical (and self critical at times).  Something different in a tightly media managed, PR spin driven world.

Wouldn't have a clue about him in person, as i've never met the bloke, just speaking of the blog.

Yeah well weird may sound harsh. I can say he has some strange theories and opinions on some things he knows not a lot about. As a person, he certainly means well but has some strange ways.

Anyway, enough about him.

Anyone think the LOLlie that Yousuf dropped was a result of the female streaker incident just before it? Classic entertainment.

What bus do I take from the station to the Basin.
Permalink Permalink
over 16 years ago · edited about 5 years ago · History

Most of them will take you there, off the top of my head 14 and 7 wont. Maybe some others, just ask the driver.

Have spent all 3 days at the test, no better place to be in NZ than at the Basin on a ripper of a day. The female streaker was outstanding. The Welsh Nix fans we sat with on Friday were wonderful. Cricket has been garbage apart from us ripping the bottom of their order out yesterday but still great 3 days. Very very sunburnt!

some of the buses you can get are:
Number 1 - Island Bay
Number 3 - Lyall Bay
Number 22 - Southgate
Theres more as well but the number 1 and 3 buses are pretty common time wise.

Oh Ross....out in the 90s again.

Three for me, and two for them.

Ah we are hopeless. Taylor himself has scored more runs than the rest of the top 6 this series.

And if it wasn't for some dreadful catching, it could be much worse.

Only thing more comical than our top order is the Paki catching. So, so comedic.

O'Brien should open the batting, this is brilliant ...

Well if McIntosh and Fulton on particular are still there then the selectors are going nuts, though really, the top 6 bar Taylor can have no complaints if they are dropped.

How can you bowl a side out for under 300 twice on a very good deck (congrats topleft!) and lose by 150 runs?  Its a f**king joke.

Can't believe i'm saying this, and i'm sure that he would make me regret it if it happens, but I think Sinclair needs to come back.  Wish Franklin was fit to bowl aswell

Bell/Watling
How
Guptill
Taylor
Sinclair
Elliot/Patel (obviously Patel to drop down the order if picked)
McCullum
Vettori
Tuffey
O'Brien
Martin

Don't know if this lot will do any better than what we currently have, but changes have to be made.

I agree with you to an extent here Mike, to me we pick a side to win this test in Napier but also with one eye to Australia.
Two schools of thought occur to me, one would see me pick How, Sinclair, Broom. Basically guys with a lot of experience and who have scored runs at 1st class level but who have failed at test level (Broom apart). The other one would be picking Waitling, Brodie/Merchant, and Broom with a real fresh look.

I would probably go with the former, problem is we need Elliot to bowl if it is going to be a road as it normally is in Napier. So my team is
How
Guptill
Flynn
Taylor
Sinclair
Elliot
McCullum
Vettori
Tuffey/Southee
OBrien
Martin

i like what ian smith said after the game about a case to drop 5 of the top 6 but you have to able to bring someone in whom you think will do a better job and we just dont have that kind of depth

anyone is better than macintosh and fulton. was talking to someone who wanted watling and broom in.

i think watling could do a job but not completely sold on the idea of broom playing test cricket

Bell/Cumming
Watling
Guptill
Taylor
Merchant/Sinclair/Broom
Elliott

12th: Tuffey

Ones in brackets are in my order of preference... tho in bold are who I expect to see...

Heard a side on the radio this morning that had a large degree of sense about it.

How
Waitling
Sinclair
Taylor
Flynn
Broom
McCullum
Vettori
OBrien
Martin
Tuffey/Southee/Patel

The talk is they might play Jeets, if he plays Elliot has to play as well.

No to Sinclair. As Macca says, he's had his chances and has proven time and time again he can't step up to int. level.

ive got a song that wont take long, Adelaide are rubbish.. the second verse is same as the first.. ADELAIDE ARE RUBBISH

2 double centuries suggests he can...

Admittedly he'd need to be more consistent.

Macca does not like Sinclair as a person, talk is that all those Canterbury guys didn't like him and that was a big part of his failures. How has been scoring runs, not massively but enough, more than Bell less than Cumming and Waitling.
Cumming will sturggle against Asif as he has the same problem as Mac and Flynn with playing around his front pad. Hows technical troubles lie with how he goes hard at the ball but apart from that I rate him.
Certainly will be interesting.

Will be interested to see if Neil Wagner and Johann Myburgh are picked when there nationalized.

Perhaps not Myburgh so much but it would be good to get a left arm quick into the attack (That isn't Franklin).
Permalink Permalink
over 16 years ago · edited about 5 years ago · History
This time last year I would have said Wagner was a shoe in, hasn't quite been the same bowler this year but agree would be nice to add some variety to the attack. But in saying that in 2-3 years time our pace attack will likely include Boult and Arnel both of whom are left armers I think.
