f**k off Ponting and Clarke!

Of course. Pity Ponting is arguably the second best batsman in the world.

If you are old and wise you were probably young and stupid

Agree. I will happily watch our boys play (only) Zimbabwe over watching/listening to those channel nine t**sers tickle each others balls while they take turns tonging Ponting and Clarke's arses.

Will be interesting what happens at the toss tomorrow. It is usually always a "bat first" in Napier but has been talk of a bit of juice left in it via a request from Wrighty. With our four seamers it could be a rare "bowl first" if the coin lands in our favour.

Fuck this stupid game

So starved of test cricket i'm excited by a game against Zimbabwe on (what is normally) State Highway 2. Hope the reports are right and there is a bit more life than usual.

I've been so disappointed in this test series.  India have been embarrasingly rubbish.  Sick of hearing about test century after test century for an Australian.

Go the Black Caps!

india rubbish, aussies gloating, the standard of cricket has been average, it wont be much better with us playing zimbabwe on a lively deck, prediction - over in 3.5 days - move onto the one dayers to prepare for the Saffers - who will kill us if the tests aren't rained off.

Taylor said in an interview that he will bowl first if he wins the toss.

Taylor won the toss and decided to bowl. Unfortunately it wasn't our Taylor

Anyone else watching on tv? Mark Greatbatch might have been an exciting batsmen but boy does he make a boring commentator.  Put some expression in your voice!

Good start by the lads. Just looking through stats (as you do when cricket is on) and noticed that McCullum has a higher average in T20Is than tests, ODIs, or even any form of first class cricket. Weird.

On second look maybe if McCullum had been backing up better and trusted Williamson's call he could have made it. On the other hand, there's no need to take risky singles on the first day of a test anyway so I can understand why McCullum might not have been expecting it. Just a classic Black Caps batting meltdown really BarryZuckerkorn2012-01-26 14:11:34

I guffawed a bit and spilt coffe on myself when I heard that. Maybe he's pissed off Jarrod decided to pursue football instead of cricket?

Basically talking about how Taylor and Jarred Smith went to Palmy Boys together for Taylor's last couple of years of high school (after Manawatu poached Taylor of Wairarapa) and both caused Greatbatch and Ian Smith mischief, but now one is a multi million dollar international cricketer, and the other is a pain in the ass living with his old man.aitkenmike2012-01-26 15:11:23

That jarrod Smith did sh*t all when he went to Palmerston North High school unlike Ross Taylor who's a millionaire now and Alex is just lazy and annoys him when he lives with them. Mycatiscold2012-01-26 15:13:17

huh? Williamson would have made it at the bowlers end with ease so there's no way McCullum wouldn't have made it to the other end if he was backing up like any batsman should.

Edit. Sorry BZ didn't see your second post.TopLeft072012-01-26 15:14:16

I've heard that jarrod smith has drinking and gambling problems. Probably why he's been half way round the world pursuing a football career but now lives with his parents back in the bay.

decent knock from McCullum but he should have gone on to the century on this pitch. still, a century from a Black Caps opener is probably too much to ask even against Zimbabwe
