?c_id=1&objectid=10676731But then again this lot are
making a whole lot of things far to the left because they are lurching
right under the guise of some really good PR. Really have to thank
Henry for showing them up.
No Tegal.
My argument: We shouldn't call somone an f-in this or that, especially if you are not aware of what they have done. Probably not a nice thing to do even if they are- there's a fair amount of restraint on this forum!
The Commonwealth nations agreed to take all practical steps to avoid sporting contacts with Apartheid South Africa. Muldoon decided to break that agreement in order to win the 1981 election on law and order issues in the rural rugby loving marginal seats. Which he ended up doing, despite the opposition having more votes than him over all.
John Minto stood up to racism, both here and in South Africa, and for the New Zealanders who thought we should be honouring our commitment to the Commonwealth and not supporting the Apartheid regime.
This is something important to our countries' history- we saw police on the streets in riot gear some without patches, we saw someone threatening to fly a plane into a grandstand, we saw mobs of rugby supporters in Hamilton without fear of police intervention go round dragging protestors from their houses and beating them up.
This is important to me as a New Zealander, who doesn't believe in categorising and segregating people by the appearance of their skin, as was done in Apartheid South Africa.
Seriously though- Patu is worth watching and it is all online at NZ on Screen.
