The Paul Henry Douchebag Thread

he craves the attention his show gets. I remember returning back to New Zealand after 5-6 years in the UK - where the breakfast television there was not so...Henry - and the first thing I remember doing upon my return was switching on the TV in my shabby little motel room in Auckland and seeing Paul Henry telling people how they should feel about the Kahui thing. The story was awful and needed media attention - it didn't need someone flaming up the story and stating that because they were on the TV you should believe what I say. While I felt the story was awful, a part of me felt a bit frightened that the media had got to the point where someone was telling you how to think on a state broadcaster. Very scary waters that is.

Subsequently I realised what Henry's role was on the show and paid no attention to him. I never watched the show again because I didn't get a toss what Henry had to say and it was obvious that it was the Paul Henry show.

Henry will not be starved of the attention he so craves in this country, he has an army of loyal followers and a state broadcaster who need to appease that will see to that.

I think he's funny. Creating controversy is what he does, people should lighten up.

PH has gone too far this time.    Rubbish apology from a rubbish person. What the hell was John Key doing, he could have said something, but he choose to be  an awkward twat about it.

Suspended until Oct 18, probably the best result as his haters will STFU for a bit and then he'll be back anyway.

TVNZ commenting on it:

TVNZ defended Henry, saying: "The audience tell us over and over again that one of the things they love about Paul Henry is that he's prepared to say the things we quietly think but are scared to say out loud."

Wow,TVNZ saying that they (and they believe all of NZ) quietly agree with the comments he made about the governor general not looking or sounding like a real kiwi etc

Pretty stupid comment to make in this instance, when he clearly overstepped the line.

I understand he is normally supposed to say things that are controversial etc,and he is pretty funny. But TVNZ wouldve done well to not back him up on this one,and especially not to say "we were all thinking it" !!

Allegedly

I am not one of the people that PH speaks for, thankfully....anyone out there who thinks what this idiot is saying should go back to their redneck, white supremicist, inbred town.

The two week suspension sounds pretty fair to me. Not worth sacking the guy over a flippant remark, but needs to be clearly shown you just can't say that sh*t, especially on state funded TV

I thought John Key was pretty lame. Where was his leadership?  All of his comments about Henry's comments, made much later, don't excuse the fact that when puch came to shove he didn't act/respond. Key has also said he will appear with him again.
Profile pic. Should you be interested. Lakhsen, on the right, lost touch with him.
Mohammed, on the left, I'm still in touch with. He's now living in Agadez, Niger. More focused on his animals now as tourism has dried up. Is active with a co-op promoting local goods, leather work and bijouterie, into Europe.

hmmm....yep the state broadcaster having a programme saying our head of state wasn't a Kiwi...when he is born and bred in NZ...

this is FOXNZ- redneck tv and a deliberate ploy. He will keep on saying crap and people keep watching. He should be goneski.

Key and Goff make it worse...

yikes.

exactly- imagine if it was a failed Labour candidate on tv talking sh*t.

Here we have a racist loud mouth failed National candidate being insulting about our Head of State, and the Prime Minister condoning it and by doing nothing promoting it.

Feelin kinda sad about my country right now.

Having not seen it..key probably just didn't know how to react. I wouldn't be angry,so that wouldn't be the reaction,I'd say he wouldve just been shocked..kind of harsh to bag key for it. Any chance though right dairyflat

People have to make the distinction between being racist and saying something that is racist. What Paul Henry said was definitely racist but calling him racist is something that we don't ave any evidence of. He would be racist if he was a member of the National Front, if he refused to be friends with those of other races or if he repeatedly said such things. I believe that Henry did genuinely not mean any offence in his comments. I think he deeply regrets saying what he did, and not just because it got him suspended.

If I was to go out my front door now and start yelling at black people that wouldn't make me racist. I wouldn't be racist because I would not genuinely believe that whites are superior to blacks.

If I called someone a f*cktard that would be abusive, but really I'm not an abusive person.

Besides what evidence would you have (err, other than the f*cktard thing I just said)?

Someone needs to check a dictionary to see what a racist actually is.

So what you is saying is that I can say anything about any race as long as I don't think one race is better than another?

Ridiculous.

BTW- if he was actually regretted it then he wouldn't have said that he didn't regret making it later that afternoon.

It wasn't just a flippant comment and he has form for belittling and insulting people. He asked the same question several times, and then in the first time he was spoken to by the media, he stood by his comments. I don't believe this was a man who said something without thinking - he meant it. It was dealt with appallingly by both the PM and TVNZ, who failed to denounce the comments strongly until today. Even then I might have expected even stronger language from Mr Key, but his comments this afternoon were welcome.

TVNZ know that Mr Henry pulls the audience that keeps Breakfast on air. But one more disgusting comment and I think he'll be goneburgers. The vast majority of the public appear to abhor the guy, so a boycott of TVNZ (by viewers or advertisers) will make his employment untenable.

'Willy and JT' on Campbell Live tonight saying that what Paul said was worse than what Hone says, just curious if everyone is of the same opinion

I don't think what he said was racist at all.  He was saying that white people were raping our land.  Which in colonial times was pretty much true.

"white motherf**kers" isn't racist? wow, maybe you should check that definition.

consider if Paul Henry had called Sir Anand a "Fijian Indian Motherf**ker?"

It would be idiotic. How on earth is it possible to determine anyone's status as a New Zealander by their name? Add a dollop of context (NIUEW ZELAND [sp?]) and it would be even more idiotic.

It's late and I'm too lazy to flick back a page to see if you are being sarcastic.

This is the sort of argument you get if context is absent.
