Not sure Wharf have much room to complain here. Moving the game a few hours earlier seems to be a win-win. Wgtn United get to field their best team and those players still get to play for the Pheonix/NZ A.

From a neutral's stand point it seems fair that both teams have all their players available rather than Wharf get an advantage from the timetabling.

Really clever change by Cap footy. Wharf coach and several players unavailable at that 10.30AM time - genuinely. How many senior games are played in that time slot. Clearly a one way communication with United and Cap footy to orchestrate this change. Wharf were not consulted ! The integrity or fairness of the competition has been diminished by one team (United) being granted special dispensation to avoid a necessary consequence already experienced by all teams throughout the season. Player availability throughout the season affects all clubs which is routinely managed among their own club resources. Why should United gain any special treatment. CF should avoid bias and apply the existing format to all teams in the division equally.

Integrity and fairness of the comp? Really?

The integrity and fairness of the comp is surely served by both teams putting their best team out for what is effectively is a final.

I think Wharf's eyes lit up at the prospect of playing a depleted United and now that's been taken away they're biffing toys all over the playroom.

But they shouldn't be. They have a team more than capable of beating United's kids.

......or carry a larger squad to deal with player holidays, work commitments, social occasions........ Or how about this one - call on reserve team players like all other clubs.

No special dispensation or treatment has been applied if United applied for the change 10 days before the match. And there's also no need for the opposition to provide consent if the change was requested 10 days before the match, as per the regulations Wharfies agreed to when they entered the league this year.

http://www.foxsportspulse.com/get_file.cgi?id=3466...

So Wellington United asked for the change of time and venue prior to 10 working days before the match and the Competition Manager agreed prior to 10 working days of the game?  And Wellington United asked for it to be played at 10.30am on Saturday at Petone Memorial?

it sounds like a fair request for the game to be changed. However it should be played at a time that is acceptable to both sides. Changing it from a time that disadvantages one side to a time that disadvantages the other side (which apparently is the case here?) doesn't make a lot of sense.

But by the same token shouldn't wharf have the same right to request a change, and how can they 10 days prior if they only get a 4 day notice of the scheduled time.

The real solution is that they should have played the game last week like originally drawn.

They made a rod for their own backs with the reschedule last week clearly without thinking through the implications.

What gets me is the Nix vs NZ A game is on Sunday arvo. Why can't the Weenix lads just play in a 230 game? What makes them unavailable?

Travel time. They have to travel up on Saturday.

At the risk of inflaming this, if there is a 5:30pm flight, would 1:30pm not do the trick? Providing that there is no penalties, the game would be over at 3:15pm. That leaves 1h:45 to shower and get to the airport for 5pm for a 5:30 flight.

Even 1pm would leave plenty of time....

perhaps they could use this link http://www.airnewzealand.co.nz/ like we did to get players to the game, instead of using political pressure to lean on CF. Not a good look for the Nix brand..

Significant amount of truth here. 1pm would have done the trick.

But I think Wharfites would have complained whatever time the game was moved to.

The question is: should the game have been moved at all.

Feverish will say no, that there was no good reason to move it.

I say yes, there was a reasonable reason to move it and I'd rather see both teams at full strength.

Incredible stamina. No shame. Yellow Fever.

What are these people doing at 10.30am on a Saturday, out of interest?

Since Cap Prem always kicks off in the afternoon have you thought of the fact people work on Sat morning?

Permalink Permalink

Is that the answer to my question?

The answer to your question is yes I have thought that one or two people might work in the morning. I work weekends often but the nature of weekend work for some people is somewhat flexible. I understand this might not be the case for others. Just interested.

How many are we talking here - 2 or 3? Thats hardly bank breaking for the Phoenix. Fly up and drive back on the bus. That would cost about $450ish...

This has not been a good PR exercise for The Phoenix and they now run the risk of pissing off  loyal fans.

Even if it was double that. Shouldn't have been an issue.

The info about the flights being available does make the request for a time change look pretty lazy/selfish/arrogant from the Phoenix/United.

Incredible stamina. No shame. Yellow Fever.

Not a problem shared by Wellington United who don't have any left.

Agree though. I reckon Feverish might become a Perth fan.

Add in a whole bunch of the coaching staff and you can see why the Nix preferred to ask Capital Football if the game could be brought forward a few hours.

I just checked and there aren't 8 seats available on that 5.30pm flight to New Plymouth for the players. So thats not an option at all.

Seeing as the Phoenix team bus leaves Friday morning for NP.
Does a kickoff time for a Saturday game really matter?
The Phoenix match is on the Sunday.

I had Andrew Blake and Joel Stevens in there as well, but realised tonight that I was wrong because they don't play for the United team, just the ASB Prem team. So yes, 6. Plus Greenacre at the very least.
