Although weren't they the last in the league by quite a margin? May struggle yet

They also lost Mike Mclutchen and Jamie Sharpe that are playing for Stop Out first team and also Tim Fenton and Tom Scott to Wairarapa. Very even league compared to previous years maybe in terms of who will get promoted and who will get relegated.

Good match ups today, two clashes of sides that may end  finishing in the top 4, a battle between two sides that may finish in the bottom 2 and then two others that'll fight for mid-table positions.

At Karori Park, North Wellington will come to see how far they have come after promotion. Wharf will need to show what they have to push for promo.

Wharf 2-1

Miramar at home to a Tawa side who started the season well last week after last season's relegation from the Central League.

Tawa 3-2

Then there is the potential of the fight for the bottom

BNU take on the "Greeks" at home  (technically away but both teams play their home matches on the same pitch)
Olympic's young fellas had a tough start to the year last week getting humped by 6. BNUs keeper scored in the 87th minute to share the points at Wests.

BNU 1-0

In the other matches IBU will hope to grab another win to put pressure in the other sides mentioned at the top, playing a KCU side unlucky not to get something out of the Karori game at home last week.

Draw 1-1

Finally Wests kids take on the Vic Uni students in a game that will be a clash of two different styles. If Uni can be patient and be happy to watch Wests pass the ball around I think they'll nick it

UNI 2-1

I'm guessing Wests will be too good for Uni?

Watched 80 mins on and off of the wharf vs norfs game in between supervising my son.

Karori knocking the ball around well, a nice possesion based style of play a far cry from 5 or 6 years ago when I was playing there where we had a smash and grab approach. Could easily have had 6 or 7 but the norf keeper was excellent later in the game.

Norf welly, looked outclassed in every facet. I thought they would have provided a bit more, but even after going one down there didn't look to be any fight which was disappointing, they didn't really create any clear chances, and got a lucky looping free kick to equalize. I appreciate they still have players to come back, but so do Wharf.

Might be biased but the new look wharf side looked pretty good, man of the match Jack Haggerty the kid has some engine.

Watched first 65 minutes of wharf vs tawa, 1-0 wharf when I left. Some observations

1) Redwood park is abysmal, a real leveler for any sides going there who want to play football ( but this has been known for sometime)

2) Wharf were poor in comparison to last week, but leading purely because tawa were more poor

3) Tawa will survive easy enough as they do have  few reasonable players, mid table I would suspect, won't win the league

4) Wharf need to become more clinical if they want to win the league. Like last week squandered many opportunities.

Looking out for the final score

2-1 Tawa. Some average defending saw the goals conceded. I only saw second half and though I think Tawa aren't a very good side - they are the ones with the points.

from what I can gather it just shows the difference between central league an cap Prem how can tawa win today against one of the so called top sides after getting pumped all last year an have half a dozen players leave. There seems to be a large gap between the 2 leagues. Also saw redwood park on the 1st week an is it really that bad ??

there is a difference in the leagues - but nothing to do with this result or any single game (Utd Nix beat Mar today for example).

The park looked fine to me - first time I'd been there in a long while and thought they might have taken out the hump when they resurfaced it.

It's a bit rich karori complaining about the quality of pitches? Karori's defending was diabolical against a poor Tawa team - off that performance you can see Kaori is cap prem again in 2017

you'd think the returning TW holding mid would tighten things up

Warning. Massively bias post ahead.

The loss for IBU at NW is a little hard to take. IBU must have bosses the game for at least 70 mins. A bad start conceding a good and a shark goal has lads down 2 nil in 15. Got one back on 25.

Then on the stroke of half time IBU attacking mid got literally dragged (with arms) down on edge of box right in front with only keeper in front. Only a yellow card as apparently a defender who was 15 metres away and parallel could have got there. But it should have been red. It was one touch and finish - that defender, unless he is the flash or superman would never have got near it. Resulting free kick put away. 2-2 at half.

Second half was all IBU with some classy football but finishes just wide or tipped over. Then a long ball from NW keeper wasn't cleared on the multiple occasions provided and NW bundled it in. Still felt like IBU had enough to take it but as they pushed NW scored another on counter. Still wasn't over though and after IBU finally got one back with 5 mins regular time to go it was all on and all IBU. Chance after chance was blocked, missed or saved and after what must have been 5 more minutes of added time the ball just wouldn't go in.

Disappointing and frustrating after seeing other results in league meaning chance to go clear at top was missed.

You know the DAGSO rule has changed? It's now a yellow unless something like a horrible tackle or a blatant shirt pull. The Ref must have thought the offender was making a conscious effort to get the ball. Sounds to me he didn't!

Yeah considering other teams dropping points would have been a good weekend to go clear at the top. Going to be a tight league.

In that case it was even more so a red card!
That was the refs explanation anyway.

rule change for DOGSO takes effect for Summer Leagues in NZ. Be in place for Euros probably.

If that is not a red card then nothing in football is.

How will games go this week? Will Tawa continue to show they are contenders this year and beat Island Bay.

Can someone answer this,  what happens if a second team won the grade eg Wests and Karori came second. Can Karori still have a playoff to go to central league or would the central representative go straight up. And then again, what happens if say Wests were first, Miramar second and then Karori third. Could Karori still go up?

second still means playoff. Not third

watched some of wharf v bnu. Wharf had the better quality and pulled away in the second half with some tidy play in the front third. Bnu tried to be physical but wharf didn't let it affect them.

Wind can always be a leveller at Wakefield. Dunno why IB choose to play at 5.30pm, I couldn't get out of there quick enough - Farken freezing.

wakefield was shark in the middle of winter in the mud, it is still shark now with the wind, difficult for sides to play football. Silly place for a turf

Would Karori be a better place for a turf?

went to karori vs miramar. Speaks volumes about wharf's title credentials  as I felt they were actually fairly average throughout  and still won 5-1.

Miramar were poor look disinterested apart from the young Rupert Crump who put in a  good shift.

went to endeavour park this afternoon great weather an outstanding pitch as always , but very boring game until wests scored goal of the season so far as the young kid beat a couple of players then did I think it's called the maradonna turn to beat another couple to finish it off with a strike from outside of the box into the top corner. Which then turned out to be the winning goal as it finished 1-0. North Wellington had nothing to offer apart from the long ball .
