Sly elbows, knees in the back, toe stomping ive experienced when playing up top...

unfortunately Joe snapped which wasn't good

And these things excuse a kick to the head?

No, but they're context.

And, it's worth noting that the 'victim' of the kicking specifically said the kicks were to the body when he was quoted in the paper.

That's very important I feel.  Kicks to the head is extremely serious and is so out of line because it's so dangerous.  Kicks to the body, not acceptable and not a great look but it's a different thing altogether.  Personally I would have given him half a season off, but 11 months is defensible.

Don't agree with you Smithy that the provocation is relevant.  That's never been a defence in football.

11 months is light IMO. It was a matter of time before something like this happened, it's a shame cause the guy can play, but from the games I have seen him play (albeit only a handful) I am not at all surprised.

Shame for stop out they will be absolutely knackered without him.

Richard Reid, chief executive of Capital Football, which handed out the ban, said it would bar Gaughan from any "football-related activities" in New Zealand and, in theory, the world.

"If he wanted to play in the UK or Zambia, it doesn't matter, the club must request a transfer," Reid said.

So whats the deal with this?  If you are suspended you can't transfer until your suspension has been served?  Well how did Suarez transfer then?  How can Capital Football make such a statement.

Since Capital Football (or NZF) is not FIFA can they enforce a world-wide ban?

tell the association he is transferring to about the ban so they impose it too

Saurez was a FIFA ban. So easy enough to transfer him and retain the suspension.

However, Mr Reid talks about how they would be contacted about the transfer and then states

"New Zealand Football would then contact us and we would say ‘no, it's not possible'."

I would understand Capital Football or NZF allowing the transfer and telling the association about the ban, but the way he talks about it it seems they would stop the transfer.  If he does transfer can NZF enforce the ban when transfering to another association?

I assume they would block the transfer until the new association were made aware or agree to carry over the ban.

Fuck this stupid game

As long as Stop Out give the ok, Capital football and or NZF can not stop a transfer, as long as Fifa Article is adhered to:

FIFA Article 12  Enforcement of disciplinary suspensions
Any disciplinary suspension imposed on a player prior to a transfer must be enforced or applied by the new association at which the player is registered. The former association is obliged to notify the new association of any sanction in writing and upon issuing the ITC.

Because 99% of all sport is played on council owned grounds, CF may think it's so called ban from all activities relating to football, means something, it means "jack shit"

Stopping a player who is under suspension from being on the sideline at a match can not be enforced, and has been tested many times

Well said critter. The grounds are a public place. Capital football have no jurisdiction over the wider area of the grounds only the pitch itself.  As for the transfer... Last time I checked the English FA are far more powerful and superior than little old Capital Football. If he was to go home and they wanted him transferred I am sure they would and could do it. If they play him or not that's up to them and isn't our problem.

I'm sure FIFA would acknowledge the ban, wouldn't they? Either way, be ruined something he had that was going pretty good here.

according to Piney on Twitter - SO have appealed and the hearing is Wed

Hmm appeal on what grounds???

"The appeal hearing is set for Wednesday night and Stop Out have grounds to appeal on the basis that the suspension was greater than the MINIMUM proscribed within the regulations." as per Dom Post

If the a appeal has been worded as above,  then S/O has lost aleady

"What would you do if someone punched you in the face twice? I retaliated and yeah I will face the music and accept the punishment," Gaughan wrote.

"As I say, I will be getting a hefty ban, and I am prepared to accept that . . . Once again sorry to the lads but I did what I had to do."

"I did what I had to do" is also a ridiculous statement.

i'm a bit lost here on what seems to of happened…

if someone hits you in the head/face twice how can they be on the ground in a prone position?

long arms?

if the accused  hit or pushed him, which put him into that prone position then proceeded to kick him then i feel he deserves every month as this is not just a lash out attack but a full on rampage of lost it big time…..

i was not there so can only go on what i have read and herd.

but i have noticed that the president of lower hutt being the head of the club speaks on there behalf but stop out use's there chairman and not their president .

i do hope CF is observing real policies and procedures to stop any conflicts of interest in this matter as i would hate this matter to be rolled on technicalities at a higher level if taken that far.

good sportsmanship and fair playing field is all we ask for

but all we get is talk and goal posts moving

S/O's President just happens to be the chairman of Capital Football (chris canton}

To me it looks as if Fifa will force NZF to adhere to the new mandate given to NZF.

Therefore the days of appointees on federation boards will cease and that all boards must be elected (no appointees), including the NZF board.

Questions:

1   How will CF clubs even find 7 people to be nominated, when they would not even nominate one for the last election?

2   How many of the current board would even be elected and or nominated if there were elections tomorrow??

3    Would Mr Canton even be elected by the clubs?

They will need to get out on the pitch with renewed vigour and desire if they are to withstand the Taranaki juggernaut today, as the New Plymouth team will still be smarting from their last visit which saw their chance of progressing to the big Central League slip away, and they will be turning up with a point to prove.

Athletic are likely to be without goalkeeper Nick Hayward again, while he rests his injured knee and focuses on making a comeback for the Central League playoffs, which will put Athletic's three-man defensive line under an added level of pressure.

Profile pic. Should you be interested. Lakhsen, on the right, lost touch with him.
Mohammed, on the left, I'm still in touch with. He's now living in Agadez, Niger. More focused on his animals now as tourism has dried up. Is active with a co-op promoting local goods, leather work and bijouterie, into Europe.

It's not about taking pleasure, it's about the club appearing not to be taking responsibility for the actions of it's players.  Should have come out after the incident/ruling and issued some kind of apology about bringing the game into disrepute.

second that, it's a bit of a farce, not sure how an club can condone the behaviour in question

Permalink Permalink

Suppose it's fair to wait until after the appeal though. Issuing an apology at the same time as contesting the penalty would have been a bit two faced wouldn't it?

Incredible stamina. No shame. Yellow Fever.

Maybe an apology is too far at this stage. Having said that, my first comment on it wouldn't be a snarky comment about winning Masters 5.

anywho good luck for SO in the playoffs. I think their second leg is the home one (hopefully work better than last time). I don't think any CF club wants to see one more team relegated from all the grades - so you should have some support.

The fact that it was not only his actions but the threats to supporters and kicking a player who was on the bench after being sent off, 11 months is light and an appeal is ridiculous

Permalink Permalink

We have all been on the end of bad tackles and foul play, but it takes a nutjob to act like Gaughan has.

An appeal just shows how delusional Stop Out are...

Couldn't agree more, alright you punch someone in the face but to carry on like a child who lost their toy, seriously an appeal
