Congrats to Wellington United! Definitly the most consistant team in the league this year..
After finally getting a rematch against you guys at the mighty hutt park, it was clear that you guys were the most organised unit defensivly in the league and that was the key to putting together a consistant enough season to win the league. You definitly had enough firepower to score the goals aswell tho... This weeks predictions...
I think:

University 1st XI    __ Olympic            Uni          2-0        Play off here they come!
Tawa A               __    Karori Vistas    Tawa A   4-0   a bit of help from above maybe?
Stop Out             __   Tawa B         Stop Out  2-0   might be intersting if TawaB get a bit of help
Upper Hutt City      -  Marist           UpHut      3-1   I hope not but im sure they will be getting help
Wellington United    -  Uni Gossies   Well U    3-2   A bit of a guess but who knows...

I would like to see Marist stay in this league because they are better than the team that would consistantly turn out for upper hutt this year but having said that it makes sense for Upper hutt to drop down some help, get the points and save their reserves in the hope that they can strengthen this team next year. If our club was in the same position I'd be dissapointed if they didnt. Good luck to Tawa A and Uni, your both good sides and would do well in cap 1.

Anyone else for predictions?

Tawa B will likely have 2 first teamers but by the sounds will only play a half each.  This is partially due to our first teamers needing some game time as they have one game left and haven't played for a couple of weeks - one of them had just come back from injury so is unfit.  But also the Tawa B team has had a number of injuries / absences towards the end of the season so we need them to make up the numbers.

My predictions:

University 1st XI    __ Olympic            Uni          5-0        Olympic weren't great last week
Tawa A               __    Karori Vistas    Tawa A   6-0      3rd vs last. Self explanatory.
Stop Out             __   Tawa B         Draw 2-2   Stop Out are good side so hope we can grab draw.
Upper Hutt City      -  Marist           Marist      2-1   I don't like Upper Hutt - dirty cheating toe rags!
Wellington United    -  Uni Gossies   Well U    4-0   Utd to finish on a high.

If the game is played at Redwood Park then Tawa 0 - 0 Karori, dont think the ball will make it out of the centre circle.

Any other ground then a convincing win for Tawa, 5-1.

U Hutt will beat Marist by 2 - 1.

& the mighty Greeks will draw 1-1 with Uni, they need 2 prove a point after there thrashing vs Tawa B last week.

Stop Out 0 - 1 Tawa B, Geoff Romijn 2 score the wonner to double his tally of senior goals.

Wgtn Utd 2 - 0 Uni Gossies - Champions 2 good.

How many do you both need for your hundred ?

I was going to go through all the first teams that had finished to stack the Nighthawks vs Seatoun but I'm too disorganised.

We'll now draw positions from a hat.

Oska in goal !!

How can you say that they are consistently better than Upper Hutt when they have only had one extra draw than Upper Hutt. If they were consistently better than Upper Hutt they wouldnt be in the position that they are in going into the last round.

Oohhhhh I dont know maybe because the only reason Upper hutt are within range to stay up ahead of marist is because they have picked up some points when they have dropped down some help from the 1st team, Im pretty sure the same can't be said for Marist. Bottom line is, the actual week in and week out Marist team in this league is better than the regular Upper Hutt side that plays in this league.

So this dropping of 1st team players you talk about is one player for one game to cover injurys and suppensions.  If Marist are better than us why did we beat them 2-0 in the 3rd game of the season (and hopefully tomorrow).

If we stay up we deserve to stay up, if we go down then we deserve to go down.

All Ive seen of your team is one that must of had some changes in the 1st round and beat us 2-1, and one that was pathetic in the 2nd round and we racked up a rugby score.
When we played marist both times they were decent and gave us a good game. All in all, they are much better value in this league than Upper Hutt.

Don't be Silly, Upper Hutt's Capital Premier team have had a terrible year with injuries and have had to take players out of the reserves just to make 11 players. Obvisously this has made the 2nd team weaker having to bring players up from the third team. So talking about value in the league(next year) Upper Hutt will be competitive next year BoganUH2010-08-27 12:49:01

Amazed that we are in the situation where we could go down tomorrow, especially given the great start to the season.  Lots of chat about what has gone wrong etc etc, but one thing for sure is that we have huge potential and some great players in the side. Gutted i cant be there for the game tomorrow but will be chearing the boys on from the mainland ! We are stil in a good position for this game, given that Upper Hutt need the 3 points and a draw will be enough for us.

Cmon you Marist!!!! Love ya!

From whats already been said on here it sounds like the injury troubles of the Marist 1st team is what has got their reserves to where they are now... Dont want to be rude but was just saying, out of the games  I have played in and seen of these sides this year, Marist have seemed like a better side.Yea Upper Hutt might be better value in this league next year, unless ofcorse the 1st team gets injuries again... could happen!
 Am I way off here?

Yeah I'd agree from the games we played Marist seemed like the better team. In saying that though the table doesn't lie and if upper hutt win tomorrow they deserve to stay up and with their first team quite possibly in the central league next year they will be more then competitive next year. Still it will be a shame for Marist having led the table at one stage..If Marist or Upper Hutt get relegated I have no doubt if they keep the same squad together as they have this year they will tear up cap3 next year and be straight back in capital 2 the year after that

5-0 olympic will loose!!!! Who said that!! Tawa A were the best team we played! Tawa B were lucky last week with a poor woman ref giving dubious penalties! I would like to see a Uni team in 1. Good luck to all teams tomorrow, but we will be playing to win! I go for 4-1 win to us (greeks)

I'm sorry Blocker, I know the ref last week wasn't great, but I had the same view of the 2 pens as you did on the sideline, and I don't think they could have been more blatant.  We've had a couple of dodgy ones this year but neither of those 2 had any question.  I do think we were lucky that we got you guys on the hottest day since April as your lads tired big time in the 2nd half.
Anyway, best of luck for tomorrow, heres hoping you do pull something out against Uni!

Im guessing it was someone from Tawa trying to fire you up. Couldn't think of a worse team to have to play with it all on the line than Olympic, going to be a right royal battle.

Maybe because in that game we (marist) had a crusty old git (me) filling in in goal...Upper Hutt may drop players from Cap Premier...Marist drops players from Masters 1 :) Shame sides have to be relegated, whoever is tomorrow, I hope it's because they deserve to be...having said that C'moooooon you Green!

For Marist seconds it's pretty much been the case for the last three or so years, players get injured in the firsts and key players get taken out of seconds...The Crow may be into his fourth decade, but he is a kick-arse player and a big loss from 2nds whenever he gets called up...still, it's the same for all clubs I guess, the seconds are a good strong team and a great bunch of guys, whatever the result tomorrow I'm sure they'll give their all, and in doiing so will do our club proud..good luck guys

Reading back to the last couple of pages these appears to be the most significant issues

a) angst at some clubs using their 1st/2nd team to boost their cap 2 sides when needed

b) cap 2 teams receiving a little hand from above explaining their defense

c) Marist vs UH: Who is going to stay up?

d) Olympic will be playing to win, and I agree with Steelo, it's going to be a tough game for Uni, but let's pray for the best ay.

To me these are all interesting topics, however something has not been discussed nearly enough. Looking at the weather and the state of the pitches today, I have a feeling that several (and some crucial) games will be decided on a stroke of luck, on a paddle holding up the ball, on a centre back slipping and not making that tackle. Whilst this is all part of the beautiful game, I'd like to share my view that this year has been dreadful for any team that wanted to play with the ball on the ground.
The way of the future is called Artificial pitches.

That's it.

Good luck to everyone for their games of waterpo..er football today!

Of course its the same for everyone - that's what second teams are for.  Upper Hutt Premiers have had an annus horribilus for injuries and the second team has been called upon a lot.  As Porteous recognised in his after-match today, the great thing has been that, of all the second teamers called up, we haven't had a failure.
There have been some comments about the relative merits of the sides - from today's match, the better side certainly won.  I have seen many of the seconds home games this year where they have dominated but been unable to score and the opposition have snatched one.

Any idea when you'll play it Steelo?  I'd imagine CF might want to play the playoff ASAP, so might you play midweek?

Gossies went down 3-1 to Utd today at Melrose Park. A very intense first half ended on 0-0, with both teams having some good chances. I am definitely gutted that we didn't put away ours in the first 45'. In the second half we gave away a but they hit the post. Then we made a couple of mistakes and they went 2-0 up. With about 15' to go, we got a pen ourselves and our CB who is leaving the country next year after 3-4 seasons with us made it 2-1. Unfortunately Utd were really good and put the game beyond doubt with another goal.

To be honest we finally learned our lesson and tried to play a few more long balls instead of keeping it on the ground, as the pitch was far from ideal, and it worked quite well. A good victory for Utd who had 3-4 younger lads in their squad (I imagine U19's, but apparently one of them was 15..makes you feel so old)!

Enjoyed the game, shame that our season ended with a loss. See y'all back in April next year.newzealandpower2010-08-28 22:19:50

not too sure. i dont think todays ref will be appreciated at CF by calling today off, could stuff a few things up. hopefully we get a bit of notice for the rescheduled game though, bit unfair if we dont.

well done to Tawa today, did the job and makes things tough for us. sums up the league in my opinion

Tawa B got dominated by Stop Out on a pretty good pitch out at Hutt Park.  Full credit to Stop Out who have a bunch of your players who always looked to keep the ball on the deck.  We spent the whole match chasing them.  Think they'll do well next year when all the young fullas are a year older!

yeah, loved playing SO this year. Their pitch is the best in the league, great facilities and a good mix of young and old. two or three of those youngsters are going to play in CL in no time I tell ya. One of our best moments in the season was a 0-0 draw vs SO away from home where they had about 85% possession. All we did was just chase them, chase them, chase them and counter attack.

Be interesting to see what CF are going to do about the draw now, as Uni could potentially have 2 very important games in the space of 3 days

Well done Upper Hutt, you created plenty of chances and deserved to win.

After sitting top of the league mid-way through the season, we (Marist) are all totally gutted about relegation.

But, we will give div 3 our best shot and hopefully bounce straight back up.
