Alarm bells ringing at North Welly yet? Another disappointing loss to a team that had been struggling up until very recently in Palmy Marist. Anybody got any insight into why they're struggling so much?

tawa looking like the real deal now after their late antics earlier in the season! string of big results and a favourable (if there is such thing in this league) run of fixtures ahead!! North welly looking like they're gonna struggle to make the top four at this stage...bad loss
I know it's not specifically CL2 related but its welly football so oh well.
But what's going on with Brooklyn Northern United? They were consistently in and around Cap 1 a few years ago and have now dropped to Cap 3, their top team is in the same league as their third team, and their ressies are in Cap 4?
I remember seeing something somewhere about how their thirds team is full of better, but more social players or something along those lines. Anyone got any insight? I've always thought the branding and colours were very cool but a shame to see them fall off a cliff like this.

I'm guessing it's just hard to actually attract talent at that level. I mean when you're 4 tiers bellow central league most people will probably just go to the various other clubs. As for the 3rd I was told it's got a bunch of decent players who just want to play casually, while the first team had people who did want to try but weren't as good. Although the 1st team does seem to have pulled ahead and won the derby against the 3rds this season.
Also slight correction the ressies are in Wellington 1 not Cap 4. At that point I feel like you should just swap names but it's also not that important

Brooklyn are one of many clubs in Wellington that will never challenge the top leagues. These types of clubs need to have their own identity and reason to be part of - some clubs $$ buy their way into it while others have a really awesome link to their communities. Think about clubs like Naenae, Seatoun or Wainui - they all have links to their communities and have their own clubrooms right by their ground. Then there are clubs like Brooklyn who have to share their home ground with Island Bay and their clubrooms are up the road. Vic Uni is another club with the same problem and appear to fallen from grace a little bit.

Games in CL2 this week:
Douglas Villa vs Tawa Douglas Villa with a god point away in Taradale. In all honesty though, they're lucky there's no relegation this year though, still without a win yet this season as well. Tawa will be looking to continue their good form and I think they will this weekend. Tawa to get the win.
Seatoun vs Lower Hutt City Seatoun started the season very well but have been struggling these last few weeks. Lower Hutt proving very inconsistent so far, but both teams have the ability to turn it on when they need to. Predicting a draw in this one.
Wainuiomata vs North Wellington Wainui almost identical to Seatoun in that they've had a few good results but are still struggling to find consistency. North Wellington the real struggler though as they sit only second from bottom, without an away point this season. I think this one may end in a draw as well. Wainui have made Richard Prouse a difficult place to come and North Wellington have been struggling to fix this downturn in form.
Palmerston North Marist vs Stop Out More teams in that middle pack. Palmy with a very good win over North Wellington and SO coming off a very tough loss to Tawa. Campbell Webster is i'm assuming back for this one so that picks it for me. Stop Out to get a tight win in this one.

They've been very good at home so far so guessing that last week may of been just a slip up. Palmy been consistently good, aside from the few losses to LH in league and Havelock in the cup. Palmy haven't dropped any points away from home so far this season (albeit they've only played two games away this season) and Dale have only lost once at home this season (in cup against Whanganui) which makes this a very tight one to call. Leaning towards Palmy winning this one but could very easily go either way.

The BNU clubrooms in the Island Bay Tennis & Squash Club (adjacent to the Wakefield grass fields) are out of action for a while due to the recent flood. So in the meantime it's up the road to the 1852 Pub who are a club sponsor.
I watched the the Wahinix in the A-League Final there last week. Pub was humming with many others in Nix gear with game live and loud on the big screen. There was one reserved table that was vacant for the first half-hour until a group wearing Hurricanes gear arrived to take their places. They were at first a little miffed but eventually gracious as they had to face the other way to watch the rugby on one of the smaller tellies. Would have been the opposite way around a few years ago.

As per the table above, R8 - Offensive, Insulting or Abusive language/gesture directed at a Match Official. 4 is the minimum sanction for this offence as per NZF Code.

DV (last) beats Tawa (3rd and firm team) Seatoun (8th and rocky form) beats LH NW win (picked that even though they haven’t won a game in a month) PNM score 2 late goals to beat Stop Out Taradale come from 1-0 down to win 3-1

Agree with all of those, Seatoun and North Welly both need a win to keep in touch with the top 4 as they are 3 pts (Seatoun) and 4 pts (NW) behind 4th place Palmy Marist. PNU seems like the only game I'd be confident in predicting but I would of said that about Dale when they faced DV. Who knows, what a league we're watching!
And we are back to the league this week - first game of the second round. Only 11 points seperate 1st and 10th. All 10 teams currently in contention for promotion (min. Top 4).
Some exciting match ups this week:
Lower Hutt v Palmy United LH coming off a big win against league leaders Taradale, and beat PNU away in round 1. Hard one to pick, I’m going with an entertaining DRAW
Seatoun v Stop Out Both coming off strong cup performances against CL sides. Will be interesting to see if they can bring the same quality to the league. Interesting fact - Seatoun hasn’t taken a point off Stop Out since 2022 and I can’t see the last time they’ve beaten them. DRAW
Wainui v Tawa Tawa haven’t won since the 17th of May and Wainui away in the middle of winter is a tough proposition. Last time these two played it ended in 5-4 win to Tawa. I’m picking another DRAW
Palmy Marist v Douglas Villa DV coming off their game of the season against PNU away, will be confident of backing up. PNM off the back of a largely defensive display against Napier. DV WIN
North Wellington v Taradale NW seem to have turned a corner, aided by the new signing of Wilkinson in the midfield. I’m picking NW WIN

LHC we absolutely decimated by the take-over and then dumping of the Phoenix academy. Their first team has slowly been rebuilding and possibly the strongest they’ve been since the departure of the Nix.
LHC have a lively and direct coach, who’s playing style is definitely reflected by the players on the pitch. Very direct, very competitive and physical. They don’t have any standout players, but a well organised team.
While 0-0 probably wasn’t the result they were looking for it was still a competitive match against a strong team. First half I would say LHC had more aggression, then it was PNU in the second half. Perhaps a symptom of the windy weather? Either way I had a good chat with a number of the folk there, very friendly bunch who were more than happy to have a chat with me. Had a good chat with Chatham Cup finalist, Bobby Walker, absolute legend. Got his signature in the 100 year anniversary book which was nice! A lot of people there were surprised to learn they had their own book which was funny. The Ricoh centre is pretty good as well, great facility.IMG_1510.jpeg3.65 MB
