If the central teams are not making it into the league through the current system, does that not tell you that they are not up to the standard We have had central teams come and go. some that are strong enough stay. Surely opening it up as above is just dumbing down the league. If they can win their league and then beat our lowest team they are worthy and the following year if the same happens you will end up with more central teams in the league. But they have to earn it, just the same as the capital teams have to earn it.

Don't really give a shit, just saying.

But they will have earned it by beating either the winner of cap prem or the 9th placed central league team. I still haven't been given a reason as to why not. And who is to say it is a Wellington team that'll finish 9th or get automatically relegated from 10th.

It was just a throw away idea anyway, didnt mean to start anything.

Tegal - did you stay for the aftermatch function? Just got told only 5 United players turned up, and G. Little didn't either.

Nah, i headed straight home. but That's quite poor with the clubrooms literally just above the changing rooms, and its a good facility to go up and have a drink and speeches etc too.

Gutted. If the coach and players didn't show at the after match it's natural to assume it's sour grapes. I suspect quite a few either wanted to get home to the kids or had plans for their Saturday night. I really do hope that was the case and that G had a discussion with Pedro about it but if not it would be pretty embarrassing to just not show.

At UH we had about 8 players and some supporters front, Gee and others had other functions on which I guess is what happens with late Saturday games, life goes on.  Boys are gutted as you would expect, but not rude enough to just not front.  Groomie as Captain spoke at the aftermatch, and just to prove there was no sour grapes he gave our man of the match to the UH keeper :-).  Hard weekend all round, just came from the Women's Prem final where we led BNU for 70 mins before losing on penalties.  Weekend to forget.

As you say, some turned up and one, obviously gutted, even managed a good speech.

Quite possibly the biggest Derby game the city has seen in years, with everything riding on it. Going to be immense.

Watched Olympic v Wairarapa on Saturday. I don't think Olympic played that well, Wairarapa were poor, their goalkeepers scary and as we all know Miramar will be a lot tougher opposition, Any injury concerns in either camp? Would be great to see them go at each other at full strength with the best team of officials Wgtn has.

Appointed:

Jim Murphy Referee
Michael Stephenson Assistant Referee 1
Jeffery Owen Assistant Referee 2

Your call watchingfootie. Personally, as a 60 + Jim Murphy gets around the field very well, and is as good if not better than most of the others. Cant complain about this lineup.

Olympic will find a way to get on the bad side of the refs though.

No Doubt the rapa were poor, but this team was the team on the pitch when they had 10 men and nabbed a draw from Miramar. Seule Soromon had also come off injured by this stage.

I watched Olympic play Wests and then rapa the week after. They were like two different teams. Will be intersting to see who turns up vs Miramar. The league is still Miramars to lose tho huh

I'll be watching the other derby this weekend at endeavour. Always spirited with Tawa supporters usually showing in good numbers

Well, yia who is willing "to go" with Tawa....they do have a reasonable record playing against Wests...it will be a heck of a game....

There is always someone who is trying to make something out of nothing...Look its going to be a tough game...let the officials do their job BUT as long as they are consinstant I have no issue.....Both teams like to play the ball around so it should be a good game......and Yes I do agree with a previous comment that it is Mars to lose...we are the underdogs and I think that suits us just fine....

The correct comment should be that we were too clinical in our finishing...the boys had a good game...but the important thing was that they took their chances.... I do recall that that Mar were 3 nil down till the last 10 min in the 1st round...however a couple of mistakes that we did cost us the extra 2 points....sometimes its better to be clinical and play effective football and get the win rather than play the "nice game" and get just a point out of it......as for the officials we need them to "ref the game" and not "to whistle the game" if you know what I mean....I am sure that our guys are ready for the chalenge.

Very Interesting round indeed.

Miramar 2 Olympic 2 - Think Miramar would take this result given the recent wobbles which may just be enough with Olympic still to play a solid Petone side who won't roll over. Still think Miramar are the best team in the league and don't know why you would watch another game unless you had a vested interest in another team. Olympic still very loose defensively but Miramar missing the midfield duo of Patrick and Doyle. Jim Murphy, great appointment. Will be a great game.....i'm picking cards.

Lower Hutt 3 Upper Hutt 1 - Will be a good battle between 2 clubs that don't like each other, much like Wests v Tawa. Upper Hutt have done their dash after a very good first season i'm sure they are happy with. Missing their big name signings now in Corrales, Setefano, Montelab and Higgins and think they will come up short. Lower Hutt, hard to say whether they will be happy with their season, have never really hit top gear.

Wests 4  Tawa 0 - Will be extremely competitive but think Wests will be far too strong, in top form at the moment, young lads been really good, Thomas, Biss and Morris  and probably still think they have a chance to win the league, mathematically sure, realistically no chance. Tawa again, like Upper Hutt have done their lot, good job the last few weeks and can start thinking about next year, a really impressive last month for them but this will be a task too hard. Don't be surprised to see a weakened Tawa side with players on second team duty in the Cap 1 dogfight.

Well Utd 1  Napier 2 - Hardest game to pick because anything could happen, United playing for some pride and who knows what Napier side will travel given the lack of importance on game.

Rapa 1 Petone 2- Rapa done and dusted, french boys gone i believe. Petone are a decent side if not fantastic but they work extremely hard and if you are not up for the contest with them you will get beaten. Richie Mclay as dangerous as any player in the league this season.

Suggestion for Phoenix. Ask the Central League about this first. They may have something to say about it.

Further from Twitter "they might want to speak to the central league committee <snip>" and "Dear Phoenix... You start at division 15 like every other club!"

Profile pic. Should you be interested. Lakhsen, on the right, lost touch with him.
Mohammed, on the left, I'm still in touch with. He's now living in Agadez, Niger. More focused on his animals now as tourism has dried up. Is active with a co-op promoting local goods, leather work and bijouterie, into Europe.

Good idea i reckon, maybe make it a 12 team league, add this youth side + one other side to save anyone from being cleared out to make space, would only extend the season by 2 weeks as well so no huge difference

Two week extension, I dont think so
10 teams = 18 weeks
12 Teams= 22 weeks

terminology may be wrong - TW already have a youth team playing ASB youth league.
