Game of the upcoming round is probably Miramar vs Wests. Or Stop Out vs Wairarapa for you Valley-dwellers.

Hopefully no Red Cards in either.

Highlights: Western Suburbs v Stop-Out via Ole's HUDL.

Highlights HUDL

I went to Davey F for the Rangers Wests game and I must say it was a cracker.

The covered balcony filled with the Rangers stars of yesteryear was part of the attraction (Koorey-Slow, Halstead, and so on) but the game itself had plenty too.

Rangers dominated the first half, despite Wests scoring two. Andy Bevin looked fantastic dropping deep and running into midfield. Tom Jackson whipped in some peachy crosses. They would have been a little frustrated I think not to go in at the break leading.

Wests changed things (I think changed to a back 3?) just after half time and from there it was a one-sided affair. How old is Elijah Just? He didn't look like he wasted much money on razors but he carved a path through the Miramar midfield. A superb performance. Miramar struggled for a chance the entire half. Dan Clarke made a couple of smashing saves.

And think what you like of the 'cult of Ole' it's still great to see twenty or more juniors from Ole, and their parents, turn up to support the first team. While the balcony was full of Rangers the 'grandstand' was chocker with Wests/Ole kids. Good on them.

Miramar's role in this year's league now is probably just to create unpredictability, and go on a Cup run. Wests are a genuine chance, having broken away at the top with Wairarapa.

Agree....that Wests team is so good for their age. Made me feel super old watching on the sideline

Wests currently 2nd Central league and 3rd Cap Prem. I'd hazard guess that 24-25 of their 30 senior players are U20.

I don't know much about their reserve team but even if it's a conservative 20 out of 30 it's very hard to argue that they're not showing other clubs the way.

On the flip side of that, not many of those kids came from Wests juniors originally. So there's a large part of their success which is down to recruitment, and Ole is key to that mix. They drift net fish for good 8/9/10 year olds over the summer and then convert them to Wests players in the winter.

But even if they're recruiting the best young players, they're still giving them a path to their first team and that's commendable.

Wests beat Olympic 2-1. Penalty to wests in the 90th and scored. Sounds like an olympic player attacked a wests supporter after Full time, given red card!

Yeah stayed around to watch the implosion! Luis has a go at a supporter as he walks off. The centre mid for Olympic had just been given a red before full time too. Great game to watch, another big crowd. Poor old Olympic given a lame defence of their title

Was he given a red card? good if he was as he deserved it

Olympic had a goal disallowed about 10 minutes from the end, the ref said Corrales was impeding the keeper, Corrales didn't agree and had a bit of a moan about it. Think the spectator said something then. Then at the end of the game Corrales had some words with the spectator, one of the Olympic coaching staff took him away, then next thing he is on the supporters side of the fence trying to thump him and having to be dragged away and up the hill. Didn't think the refs saw any of it as they were in the middle of the field but good if they did

At the very least he should face some sort of discilpinary action from Olympic

My report is second hand from an excited young spectator. It's quite possible the red card mentioned may have been related to the penalty incident,  not the confrontation after full time.

If you don't know what went on then don't speculate. Fair enough?

Profile pic. Should you be interested. Lakhsen, on the right, lost touch with him.
Mohammed, on the left, I'm still in touch with. He's now living in Agadez, Niger. More focused on his animals now as tourism has dried up. Is active with a co-op promoting local goods, leather work and bijouterie, into Europe.

I would ask if you are new to the forums but see you have been here for a while. All people do is speculate here...

I'm positive things will go wrong.

Correct; comment was meant in the context of 24 points to play for; run in to the title.

Stuff comment on the Lions Test article:

"Wellington will be absolutely pumping that week, and we can't wait" ... that 'we' would exclude Capital Football who have allowed Central League matches to be scheduled on match day up to the kick off time of the big match (Olympic and Lower Hutt finish at 7:35pm while United will still be over the hill in Masterton when the game begins) unlike their counterparts in Auckland who have not scheduled any Northern League matches the weekend of both test matches up there.

While local rugby have brought forward kick off times on the day, college rugby has not followed suit with the St Pats Town First XV facing a dash back from playing Wairarapa College in Masterton (2:30pm kick off).

This is a big event (as can be seen by full accommodation) so all local sports bodies should come to the party and not be so parochial - many sports followers like more than one sport.

I suspect (in football circles) there's more that don't give a rats about the rugby than those that do. Not that hard to schedule all games to finish at least a couple hours before kick off though.

Fuck this stupid game

Pretty sound arguments in both directions with this one. On the one hand the Lions IS a big event but on the other hand there are lots of big events. I bet folks would be irate if CF postponed/moved matches for the cricket, the AC/DC concert, the America's Cup etc etc. It's a slippery slope. Safer just to box on I reckon unless it's a football event.

Olympic and Rapa CL teams don't choose their kick off times? righto

Because it works for them.

For higher Divs,  CL, CP and Cap 1 oddball times aree probably clubs choice, but the majority of games played late / midweek is CF choosing

ah well that was my whole point that the games mentioned were the clubs choice as to kick off time.

Those are probably the ones who dont care about the rugby as much as the social team that has a late Sat kick off and half of them are going to the game.

I don't know if this is overly relevant but we in Auckland have had our home game kickoff times locked in before I think the lions games were publically confirmed so really there is little one can do in this scenario as we are not allowed to change them later unless both teams and AFF agree.

Olympic are the only ones that choose their later kick off time, Lower Hutt's is dictated by use of the Fraser Park turf, one week rugby has priority (ie the afternoon games), the next week football does, Rapa also have to wait for the rugby to finish before they can play. So ironically for the person moaning in the stuff comments - its because of rugby that the football is being played at times when the Lions game is on
