Nor were we to be honest - was expecting a close game. NCR up 3-0 after 20 minutes, West replied about 26mins and that was halftime. NCR scored two minutes into the second half and with another goal later, that was that. Plenty of passing and possession from Wests but little to show for it. They did miss a sitter after 5 mins and had a few chances but couldn't finish. On chances, a score of 10 - 5 to NCR would be a good reflection of the game
NCR 5-1 over Wests. Wasn't expecting that
after last weeks result i was expecting a improvement so 5-1 not too much of surprise compared to Olympic keeping Rapa to 1
good sportsmanship and fair playing field is all we ask for

Rapa very lucky to win. Olympic dominated for most of the game , but clearly have to improve in front of the goal. Should have scored at least 4.

well Petone turned the tables last week on NCR so it's good to hear Olympic are also in position to be able to do the same to the top guns…. it will make for a good second half of the season i hope.

Just come across this, Declen seems to talk a lot of sh*t.
Some very interesting comments at the bottom of the article as well.

Not sure why a winning mentality and producing professionals are mutually exclusive for him

Referring to the comments that "Yohan"made at the bottom of the artcle (italics below), Jh1983, "Yohan" is wrong on a few points.
Few points on the game yesterday.
1. MAIN POINT The average age of WS starting 11 was 21.1 while NCR's was 22.5 hardly Men v Boys or a huge gap is it?
Average age will have been distorted by Wests' older players. The fact as stated is correct: Wests had 6 players aged 16 in their squad.
2.
Declan's Job through the week is to develop players for the Ole Academy
who one day hopefully will become professionals or like any other
average footballer who is willing to pay a few grand go on scholarship
to the US. (see http://www.firstpointusa.com/)
I think that's pretty disrespectful to any college athlete who gets a US scholarship.
However on the weekend his job is to win games for WS that's what the club pay him for. These Lines have been blurred before. Waikato FC.
Unless you have read Declan's contract, that is pure assumption.
3. Being disrespectful to
Rovers and their history in NZ football is a tiny bit childish. NCR
have developed all whites and professional players in the past. Go on
Yahoo and search Ricky Ravenhill or Shane Smeltz (who recently played
against a manager who's philosophy is develop players by teaching them
how to beat an array of playing styles and effectively win). Tyler Boyd
and Ryan Thomas aside playing in a Serie B youth team in my eyes isn't a
pro. If that is Rovers have 6 who have played in professional
youth/reserves side + Nike academy. NCR have 10+ English football league
appearances in the current squad + INT u17, u20 and u21 caps.
Smeltz spent one season at Napier. To claim NCR "developed" him is a massive stretch of anyone's imagination. Ricky Ravenhill spent a few years at Doncaster Rovers, but his Wiki page makes no mention of Napier City Rovers.
Professional players earn money for playing regardless of what league they play. A professional player is a professional player.
Personally I don't think anyone can "guarantee a professional footballer" but Declan's approach is not aligned with the NZF way of doing things. However, he is probably one of a small number of coaches in NZ to develop 4 current professional players.
6. If WS showed as much respect as NCR gave them they would have used full time training to study and figure out a game plan that would challenge NCR. Instead they played their one and only plan A which NCR had researched/ respected and counteracted.
Whether you agree with the approach or not, Wests' philosophy of player development being more important than individual match results is currently producing a pretty successful win ratio throughout the club.
7. This is the HBT website yet the article is all
about WS. How about promoting a Bay team competing with the capital that
are 8 from 9. Top of the league and just beat 2nd 5-1?
Kotahitanga. We are one.
I read that article and it just sums up exactly why NZF do not talk to Declan - because he makes it all about him and is generally disrespectful of others. Ironic considering he says he never gets any respect.
Grumpy old bastard alert
Global Game
i have to agree with allot of your comments as for the one on WS plan A
i feel his comments sums up much of NZ football today.
Ricky herbert is a prime example with the all whites and Nix…..
some will burn me for that comment but i feel it is true.
too often a coach finds a formula that works and stops looking for new combinations and options of play to change whats happening on the field.
I do hope the Petone result is a indication that some teams have a plan B and C and NCR don't run away with big heads.
i do think NCR will take the league but i would like it to be close as this would make it so much nicer for the players to savour IMO

Ravenhill came out from Barnsley for a season as a 18 year old? with another lad Jackson, he hardly came up through the NCR system.

There's 3 names off the top of my head that have come up through NCR at a young age and have either played pro or are getting a decent pay cheque nowadays at clubs.
Let's face it, IF Declan did say all that in his interview (as we all know Anendra Singh loves to twist things) those comments are pretty disrespectful and over inflating about NCR's players and his players going pro. NCR have several young (18-23 year olds) that could be picked up especially with the way they are dominating and looking like they're in a league of their own at the moment.
Declan trying to once again justify his consistently poor results as a coach at senior level?
Allegedly

Spot on. Trying to mask the fact that his team just got smashed 5-1

Kotahitanga. We are one.
Declan has a pretty good rapport with people in HB [he used to play at Park Island] and will bang on about his vision to anyone that will listen. Its all part of his drive and passion for what he's doing I think.

I think Tegal was referring to him getting Melville relegated and Waikato's poor ASB results, which was mainly due to his own personal agenda. But yeh Wests are going well this season

Jose sacked from tawa. Dan wood & Marty romijn to coach rest of season
could they do worse?
was it Jose or the teams fault for the results?
hope it's not a player revolt as i have seen it before where players don't play well for a coach as they don't like him then revolt and one or two take over and there mates start to play like they should have in the first place…..?
i do hope it was a management decision made with some thought and consultation with senior club people.
good sportsmanship and fair playing field is all we ask for

Is that Jose ex Miramar/ex Wellington United?
Fuck this stupid game
Can't say I'm surprised if it is him. I'm not sure what sort of coaching he's best suited to but it's not this level.

can you supply more info re this opinion.
i don't know the guy so i am interested to know more so i don't grill my tawa associates when we catch up next.
there maybe some tender nerves depending on whats gone down.
A coach gone during a season is not the normal protocol from a club who has a good management that has made good decisions so please fill in the blanks.

1 hours passed since you posted that and I've finally managed to stop laughing.
I went to the Fraser Park "Sportsville' to watch Lower Hutt play Stop Out today.
Entering the ground made me chuckle... To the left of the gate a sign read 'Grounds open' and to the right a sign read 'Building Site - Do not enter'.
The new Lower Hutt Sportsville is a treat for spectators though...
Mohammed, on the left, I'm still in touch with. He's now living in Agadez, Niger. More focused on his animals now as tourism has dried up. Is active with a co-op promoting local goods, leather work and bijouterie, into Europe.

What the hell has happened to Miramar and Olympic this season?!

Both have had a regime change. Besim comes in at Olympic and Woody P at Miramar. Always knocks teams around a bit. Mar lost a fair number of players to Paul Ifill's recruitment over the hill at Wairarapa United. Woody P was appointed fairly late in the piece too which didn't help. They are coming right and spots 4-8 on the table could change a fair bit in the remaining 9 matches.
The real battle is for 10th. Napier have already won.
Incredible stamina. No shame. Yellow Fever.
that biased Wiararapa time age……
i wonder who they are backing for the title then?????
;-)

I have no problem with a local newspaper backing their team - the locals who read the paper don't want stories of doom and gloom. If the reporter didn't have a local slant, questions would be asked. At least Wairarapa Utd is making the news in a positive way.
Apologies to anyone who knows anything about Central League. I just recorded my bit for Piney's show tomorrow and was hopeless. I promise next week I will prepare myself.

Was fishing ";-)" and thought some fish might bite but didn't think i would catch a old sol….. flounder i think tastes better but beggers cannot be chooses
i do agree re local slant and positive reporting but i also have read allot of times age papers over the years to know they are very local and proud of the green and red. a bit like some red and black south islanders…….. perhaps it's the sheep????? ;-)
lets hope for good pitch's so we can have good football for the weekend…..
Good luck NCR and the rest.
