I find it odd its 1-11. The nominations were from Cap1, Cap2 and Cap4. Not sure on criteria, the winner scored something like 35 goals this season, the Cap 4 guy from Miramar scored something like 25. Not sure on Cap2 guy from Waikanae

I thinnk it should be Cap 1-4 based on stats then 5-11 by a vote.

So Capital Football lost money during the last financial year, have conceded that its own football development programme was not very good and has handed back the lions share of this responsibility back to clubs, and yet is still looking to replace an outgoing Football Development Officer with another?

Would this money not be better spent on a grants/sponsorship manager? Or simply discontinue the role?
Where do you get the most bang for your buck in this climate?

That sounds like the way up here in AKL. They have all these football guys that just go around clubs. What not stick to running the game and investing in the product they deliver, and leave the clubs to do what they do.

What are the Capital Football subs this year?

You'd have to think they'll continue to hemorrhage social teams if they refuse to make the price competitive with the better leagues on offer.

Must say though it's getting so expensive - even for a professional like myself. I could see the appeal for students who want to play socially to go elsewhere, play less and enjoy getting reffed by Pedro every week!

Last year we paid $246 for the season. I know it was a closed team and we had about 17-18 players, but that's quite a lot of dosh really.

There's no two ways about it - both Wellington Sunday League and Better Football offer better 11 aside options at a significantly lower price for social footballers than Capital Football do, having played in all 3 myself.

I've played Sundays over summer for 3-4 seasons.

I've got no affiliation with WSL, but I do referee for Better Football for full disclosures sake.

Just to clarify the $825 is for 7-a-side not 11-a-side. 

11-a-side is a work in progress for us at the moment, but our recent season was 1300 for 7 games. This includes refs, photos, videos and player of the day vouchers. We probably sit a little bit higher in terms of $ to WSFL but we are quite happy with the product vs cost that we are providing. Looking to include linesman from next season as well. 

Hoping to bring some of the clubs into the discussion to provide opportunities for refs and club members for experience (while getting paid at the same time) and looking at ways at how we can support the clubs etc. 

what's the story with defaults in Sunday League? they get punished for fking people around? Seems to be a few of them, maybe cos they pay less and don't care.

Anyhow, I'm sure a lot of folk like being part of a club, having a home base, moving through the tiers as you get older and sharkter, supporting the other teams, hating on the others clubs etc...

Yeah.... You don't get all of those things at all of the clubs which is a bit sad :(

All community football postponed until 2 May

Out of concern for our community’s health amidst the COVID-19 pandemic, the start of the community football season has been postponed until 2 May.

This difficult decision has been reached by NZ Football in agreement with the seven Federations, to help prevent community spread of COVID-19.

Measures being taken include:

• Community football, including junior, youth, senior, social and regional competitions – all play postponed until 2 May
• Community futsal including junior, youth, senior and social competitions - all play postponed until 2 May
  • The 2020 Secondary Schools Futsal Championships set for late March has been cancelled. Tertiary Futsal championships are postponed until a date to be confirmed, and all other competitions are being reviewed
• Workshops and courses- including coaching and refereeing courses postponed until after 2 May
• Meetings – all federation meetings postponed until further notice

All training should be suspended until 18 April, or two weeks prior to the start of the season. Recommendations around safe practice will be continually updated, aligning with Ministry of Health guidelines.

So now that we have some clarification around how the season is going to be laid out, does anyone find it a bit of a joke from Capital Football that they will be charging Tier 2 and Masters grades, who will only be getting 14 games, the same amount of fees as Tier 1 sides?

Why is it that the "social" footballer is treated with such disdain by CF? We are already made to play the majority of our games on substandard pitches with no referees, yet we also have to foot the same amount of artificial fees as teams who get to play on them often. 

It's no surprise that CF has been losing social teams to other competitions and organisations when you see what is on offer.

Other organisations have taken an approach of offering a discount across the board, which seems a much fairer approach.

If I recall correctly clubs/Teams are charged separately for officials 

Do the council Charge (discount) ground charges based on pitch condition.

If I recall correctly Artificial Fees averaged based on block bookings (pre season n weather conditions) not what team/club uses them

Jump ship to Sunday League/Better Football. We did (Olympic Cap 6 last year), very much looking forward to social football with refs and turf this coming season, for a much cheaper price too.

Fees haven't even been decided/released yet so what are you basing this on? There was some previous scenarios and fees but it is something still being worked on and will reflect the decisions around grade numbers.

Wellington CC are waiving grounds fees for community sports teams through end of June - Doesn't include commerical leagues.

Normal fees will apply from Wednesday 1 July, and seasonal fees will be reduced for winter sports due to the winter season being shorter than usual

Gatherings to increase to 100 from Friday including all sport.

Yep, we hit the council up about that, and due us not being non-for-profit organisations we don't qualify for the waiver. Personally I think it's a bit harsh when we are literally 50% cheaper than some clubs, but that's what it is and we'll have to live with it. It's a shame as it would have fast-tracked a Free-Football initiative that we are working on, but ah well. 

On the positive side of things though, looking forward to the winter season and everything getting back to normal. Good luck to all of the teams playing in other comps this season and we hope to see you in ours for summer :P
