lol, tirade is certainly the best way to describe it....though i certainly think i should have waited till the ball was out before launching into it (as my team mates let me know)

The fill in keeper (who I thought you were going to beat after that goal kick) reckoned I used the s* word too, I thought it was him mis-hearing cheat. I thought it was more likely, if i used either of them,  for me to use the f* one.... oh well, it's not like the cards going to get changed, i'll be watching next week either way

yeah i ballsed up the opportunity after that dude kicked the ball directly to me. I think I couldnt belive my luck (plus had a 18 hr commute to the game).

Your Brazilian guy ran the show. Who is the bald chap? He was good too. Tell Brian to get some counseling by the way haha

Yes, i must admit I was a touch disappointed to see that you didn't stay on for the Euro final ;)

We had two brazilian fellows on, Lucas was in the middle of the park, scored the 2nd goal from range and took the free kick that got bundled in for the first goal. Renan played on the right wing.

The bald headed fellow was a pommie bloke, Wayne.

yeah Lucas has spanked us in both games- though all three goals have been from about 40 yds - so I'm starting to think that the Hermanator and him are involved in some sort of match rigging.

With five minutes to play and wharfies down 3-2 Karori fail to get a shot on goal where a very nervous looking replacement keeper was waiting....  Hill and Mal the scorers for wharfies, probably a fair result with marist winning as wharfies didn't show up in the second half after leading 2-1 at the break

Gilly's coaching successor at Varsity also lost his way in the red mist on Saturday - was likewise dispatched to watch from the clubrooms. Clearly an angry breeding ground, that Kelburn Park!

Wow Wow with tawa posting 8 former western suburbs players and with all 8 of them all resembling some hatred towards Matt Calcott - it was great to see calcott on the sidelines "trying" to coach. In the end tawa was just to good - after three losses on the trot much needed. Be intresting what players tawa pick up from wests next year when wests get dropped back down - i wouldnt imagine wests keeping there 2nd team alive in cap 1.

Horse and Hound Wairarapa United will take a clear lead in Capital Soccer's premier division competition if they can beat Island Bay United in Wellington next weekend.

That much was made certain after their convincing 3-0 win over Miramar Rangers at the Pugh Sports Bowl in Masterton on Saturday.

Island Bay United currently head the points table with Wairarapa United just one point in arrears and, importantly, with a game in hand.

Coach Phil Keinzley said it was the tightness of the Wairarapa United defence which was the catalyst to victory over a dangerous Miramar Rangers combination.

From goalkeeper Matt Borren through to player of the match James Oxtoby, Carl Shailer, Waisake Subatu and Andy Robertson the Wairarapa United defensive line-up had simply shut their opposition out of the game.

"Our defence was outstanding, absolutely outstanding," Keinzley said. "They never got flustered, they always seemed to have things under control."

Adding to the importance of a watchful defence was the condition of the Pugh Sports Bowl pitch with drainage problems around the cricket block area meaning that huge puddles of water had gathered there, making that area of the ground almost unplayable.

Keinzley said his players had been warned prior to kickoff that any balls landing in that region of the ground were likely to stop dead and that any attacking play down the middle of the park would be fraught with difficulties.

"It's disappointing to have conditions like that when the rest of the pitch is in such good order," Keinzley said. "All you can do try and cope the best you can but it's certainly not a good look for local soccer, is it?"

Wairarapa United led 2-0 at halftime through goals to Shailer and Pita Rabo and Seule Soromon scored the only goal of the second spell.

Keinzley said Wairarapa United probably should have had more than three goals to show for their efforts with several other prime scoring opportunities being created but counting for nothing. "We weren't quite as clinical up front as we would have liked to be," he said.

I have found his sides to be very well structured and I'd say he prob has a decent record, so I have to disagree with your bashing. I think you will find he coaches the Wests first team.

which is just another reason to back up why they wont have a 2nd team next year - no coach.

By Gary Caffell

Carl Shailer and Andy Robertson will be making their 100th appearance for the Wairarapa United firsts when they play Island Bay United in a crucial Capital Soccer premier division match at Wakefield Park, Island Bay tomorrow.

They will join a small and exclusive band in doing so with only Matt Harvey and Hayden Spierling having reached the "ton" before them.

Wairarapa United coach Phil Keinzley described Shailer and Robertson as "excellent team men who never fail to give 100 per cent to the cause."

He said both players were versatile enough to play well in a number of different positions and were as vital a part of the Wairarapa United line-up now as they had ever been.

"They are the sort of guys you can give a job to do and know it will be done, they never shirk a challenge," he said.

A win to Wairarapa United tomorrow would see them leap frog Island Bay United to the top of the competition table, and with the extra cushion of having a game in hand.

It's a situation which might have tempted some coaches to opt for a risk-free tactical approach with the idea of squeezing out, say, a 1-0 victory but Keinzley has very different ideas.

He is adamant his team's best chance of victory revolves around them taking the game to their opposition by fully utilising the flair and elusiveness of proven goal scorers like Seule Soromon and Pita Rabo.

"When you have players of that calibre up front it makes sense to use them and that's what we are intending to do," Keinzley said.

"We have to make things happen ourselves, we don't want to depend on them making a mistake. We have to be positive, that's the key for us."

Keinzley says dominating the midfield battle will be a prime objective for Wairarapa United as by doing that they would not only be guaranteeing a good service for Soromon and Rabo they would also be reducing the chances of Island Bay United getting any consistency into their own attacking play.

And to that end he would like to see a repeat of last weekend when the Wairarapa United defence was the catalyst to a comfortable 3-0 win secured over a dangerous Miramar Rangers side at the Pugh Sports Bowl. "Our defence was outstanding, absolutely outstanding," Keinzley said of that defensive effort. "They never got flustered, they always seemed to have things under control."

Keinzley is not under-rating Island Bay United however in any way whatsoever. He notes they have not lost a game since Wairarapa United beat them 2-1 in the first round and that they have a particularly good record at Wakefield Park. "Honestly, we would have to be going into this game as the underdogs, the odds are with them more than they are with us," he said "Everything suggests it will be close, very close.".

The Wairarapa United seconds play Lower Hutt City in a Capital third division match at the Pugh Sports Bowl in Masterton tomorrow and they will be hoping that ground conditions there are better than they were last weekend when large puddles of water lay over the cricket block area.

Tawa 2-1 Miramar

Miramar thought they had scored a late winner from a massive throw into the box, which was in turn slammed into the net, but on the advise of the far linesmen it was disallowed much too the disgust of Miramar and their supporters and to the delight of Tawa

While being a fan of Thommo, his behaviour in todays game vs. Tawa was totally out of line.  After his equaliser was ruled out by the linesman for a clear foul on the Tawa keeper by Burt Taylor, himself and Burt continued with a disgraceful verbal assault on the linesman for the remainder of the game - not a good example to the younger less experienced guys he is meant to be coaching.  Miramar's lumbering centreback was then heard to abuse the referee at the end of the game.  Not a good look for the club boys.

Rapa really should have buried the game when they were two up. couple of good saves from DKP and a couple of misses by Rapa left IB in the game. I didnt really see either of the pens, the first was for handball i think, but got the feeling the second one might have been marginal and neither were blatant.

huttboy i understand where your coming from, however there was no clear foul.I hear from a neutral fan behind the goal that infact it was a tawa player who accidentlty impeaded the goalkeeper.I think thommo's reaction was fair enough towards goober moffatt who's ruled it out  from the sideline. It shouldve been the young refs call as he was 2 yards away from the incident.Yet another game in which hes  had a mare. All the best for the rest of the season Tawa.

Tawa dominated most of the first half and just about deserved to win on the balance of things.  However, I couldn't see anything wrong with the Miramar goal that was ruled out at the end.  Good to see Batts and Bert Taylor out there for Miramar...one run by Bert in the first half was reminiscent of the 1990s - carving through midfield and beating 3-4 players before unfortunately shooting wide.

Congrats also to Sean Hennessey on reaching 100 games for Tawa.

Tawa Players and supporters give yourself a upper cut. Standing on the sideline abusing players left right and centre totally one eyed and up themselves and as for your players no wonder you will never win anything when you all act like you do.Although you are the best social team in wellington so congrates on that.

Kaori were minging yesterday, should have been 10 -1 to kapiti. You could drive a triple decker bus through there defence. They also started to lose the head with some idiot kicking some young fella off the ball. Kapiti were a class above kaori and if kaori continue to play like that they will be in relegation trouble!!

First of all, it is spelt Karori. Really not that difficult. Second of all, Waterside Karori have two games in hand and are mid table, don't make such ludicrous claims of relegation troubles. They will finish above Kapiti Coast United.
