Quiz time. Since the Mainland PFL was first introduced in 2002 four sides have gone through the season without a win. Can you name them and will FC Twenty11 make it five?

Here's a guess -

Burnside, Varsity, Woolston, Cashmere?

Close but no choccy fish, two out of four are correct.

Richmond?

Western at ASB Football Park against Halswell on Saturday, maybe the match program will list the names of the fans and not the players.

Been in and out a few time.

AW82 after this brain teaser is completed what other stats do you have for the duration of the mainland league? Appearances? Goal scorers? Etc

Avon.

Correct: Avon in 2005. Both Woolston WMC (22 games) and Avon (18 games) failed to gain a single point with New Brighton (18 games) 3 draws and Richmond (21 games) just a single draw.

I have all the results, including half time scorelines and just working on completing the goal scorings stats from the first season. Almost completed when the earthquakes first hit Christchurch so just to make time now that central library is back up and running to double check scorers from the first five rounds of the season. Sadly do not have appearances.

That's awesome. So an overall goal scoring list?

Once I double check the first five rounds.

hmm so by gobbing off you mean abuse?? Or supporting his team passionately??  Is it me or are we getting a bit PC.  I don't see a problem with some gentle ribbing and loyal support. It's going to be a quiet dragons season this year then. I guess team management have a risk management plan in place for Mr B!  Anyone signed up as one of the 3 ground marshals I assume Mainland will employ over the summer? and how do they decide which of the 4 sides the 3 marshals stand on?

Well i heard abuse yelled at the uni keeper in the 1st half. imo he is a disgrace to his club.

Far be it for me to call rules on this forum but I'd like to think we're better than calling individual people cunts.

I was at the gme on Tuesday night and didn't hear anything worth getting in a sweat over.
Chatted with the refs assesor afterwards and nothing mentioned or heard that they would have to file a report on.
Training at ASB is full till 9.30 tonight and need to be on the clock and out on time.

I was also at the game on Tuesday night and apart from a little jovial banter from the crowd thought it was a great advert for the whole game.

Seems as though Betty is a bit precious protecting his goalkeeper, perhaps the keeper should concentrate on catching the ball and registering his international players correctly!

Gotta laugh when your best insult is the fact that the second best team will win the Div 1 league on a technicality... of course that's assuming Chch Utd don't choke. Still getting promoted to the Mainland League for a long time has been more about backroom dealings *cough* Burnside *cough* then winning on the pitch

Yes great call with the Div 1 again next year, clown! I would not be so sure of that at all with the appeal still in NZF hands and the amount of clarification and process information being requested from NZF through Mainland. Don't be surprised at all if Uni get their points back :)

You would think the Uni supporters would be able to use better words than "Clown" or "C#$t".

Let us hope the future of our country is not left in the hands of these fine gentlemen.

I hope Uni get there points back then the little Whippersnappers can have a pop at the Premier teams on Yellow fever.

Good luck boys!

Haha, I am not a Uni supporter merely a neutral..

Do you hope Uni get their points back so Waimak don't spend another 2 years in Div 1???

Have heard wee whispers some young players are not happy at Waimak and have inquired to play at Uni next season, now that makes one laugh!

Don't believe what you hear Greeny, Waimak have some great 15-16 year olds coming through and they are all happy to stay with a club that has a future. New Clubrooms and a new artificial pitch next year. The future is bright for Waimak.

I can't understand who it has taken so long either Vim. Seems to be simple if he wasn't on the team card give the points back if he was on the team card sorry but bad luck. There is no doubt Uni is a quality side and do deserve a shot at MPL but if they can't do a simple task of making sure players are all registered before playing then maybe this will be a tough lesson for them. Hopefully this forces mainland to do something better about team cards and the handling and checking of them in the future.

Permalink Permalink

I've said it before but I'll say it again to ensure its simplicity is understood.

1- Mainland have a squad list per team and this is checked at the beginning of the season that they are all registered.
2- MPL, WPL and Div 1 cards are checked each week to see if they match up with the pre-approved squad list. If not, more looking into may be needed, and if all good, they can be added to the 'approved' list.

That's 22 teams that need to be looked at, which I guess could take a few minutes each. Problem solved.

I vote you for CEO of Mainland when Mike Coggan gets sacked.

Pretty simple really, what about ID cards that you receive when registered and have to be handed to refs with the team card the Refs then check them off no card no play no problems. I hear similar is used overseas

Ok cos its a rather boring Friday here is a question for you all. With so many teams in Canterbury now merged some of the great rivalries have also disappeared which rivalries do you miss the most?

Permalink Permalink

Did we really have rivalries?

How bout Chch Utd and New Brighton back in the heydays of National League? Both made finals I think. And used to get 10,000 at QE2 park as well.  Gone are those days.
