So the rules are no pay at all, yet clubs are handing out $5K in fuel vouchers, is that how this is? Or am I reading it all wrong?

Hi Vim,
Is the Coastal pre-season tourny all go, if so when does it 'kick-off'. Cheers
Of course it is, means football can go midweek before the season really kicks off. Not sure on exact dates as yet, usually February tho.

good sportsmanship and fair playing field is all we ask for
but all we get is talk and goal posts moving

Cheers, at Cuth Green or Linfield
Most likely Linfield, although that's another guess too.

the rules are pretty open but do have certain criteria for payments and contracts hence fuel vouchers and appearance payments….

Cant see why anyone would want to pay for a players for a $1000 competition winner's cheque, great investment that NOT

why pay 150 odd million for 15 million prize money??????
because everyone likes winners and want to be part of that winning??????
it is sad but true human nature…..

But what if it's only two clubs in town that do it? What if it's all done under the table so has no nobody knows anything about it financially (IRD, Working for familes etc) What if players are poached from other clubs on the basis that they will get some $?
Does all this sound a fair system?

I don't think it's a sad but true point that people like to a part of a winning team. I ruddy well love it.
But there is a greater sense of satisfaction knowing that the team and club you support does it by the book, and the players are in your team cos they want to be there. Not that some are getting paid to be there, while the others in the team are thinking, "Why aren't I getting paid?" And the other teams in your club don't say "Why aren't I getting a new set of strip this year and we're paying thousands to a few players?"
Is that a good point?

Vim is this all gossip or can you tell me who from clubs get paid and what .
I think it's common knowledge around town, and as far as I am aware it is only Bays and Tech that pay certain players. Normally just the national league players get looked after, however there may be others.

Don't be so naive Chelsea pensioner. Players in Chch and pretty much every other league with a reasonable population base are "paid" - not all players, not all clubs.; have been for years, are being paid and offered money today, and will be for the rest of my lifetime. Nothing inherently wrong with being paid for your time. The problem for Vim is that it he would like it above board and "official". NZF and the federations won't be inclined to follow that course of action though as nz doesn't have the spectator mass (and the corporate $ that follows any reasonable sized market) to justify a move to a professional footing. Also too many clubs went bust chasing national league glory 20-30 years ago. If you look at the history of leagues as they developed around the world one other thing is also required - the ability to take a gate - charge entry to a specific location to watch a game. That can only happen at grounds which can be made secure and are not publicly open fields. Only 2 of them in Chch - ASB and Garrick park, plus school grounds. I don think we will move from the current shamateur situation anytime soon.

The reason I ask is I play at fc in a masters team that Browny of tech used to play for. So I questioned him about the things on yellow fever , to see if they gossip or true .His response was they don't pay money but with boot vouchers and petrol vouchers for players being selected for utd . Which is a club incentive that is common knowledge. They also pay subs.
So is all a wee bit of green eyes stuff. or is my old mate telling me fibs.
Or what about the player who is on the staff at a company a club chairman owns? Or flats for free at someone's rental property? Or turns up every now and then at a junior coaching clinic to fulfill coaching gig - which might have been funded with grant money. Is that being "paid"? See there are ways and means as browny alludes to.
The point Vim makes is valid and I agree - it would be better for it to be open but I don't think that move to professional status canhappen for reasons previously outlined.

Who gets $400 a game?
Tech played about 35 games last year?Lot of coin
The point I'm getting at global is I've read a lot of quotes on this which is directed at certain clubs which seems false unless you can back that statement up. Mainland tried last year to get an expense figure in place but nzf wouldn't support it.
I was just wondering if this is a forum where it is genuine football people who care for the game and are in the game. Or people who just go on for a wind up.
Everyone gets into mainland , about rules and so on. The last 3 meetings I've been told that there's a lot of people not saying much. Do you or Vim go and state ur strong opinions and knowledge of the going ons in the game

Stu Kelly doesn't get paid for playing football. He works in a shoe shop! lol

I know for a fact that all tech first team squad get a minimum amount of vouchers plus some get a lot more than others..Dont need to be in dragons squad to get it either.
... Which is totally legit.
The bigger issue is (for some) thatnot every club is competing on the same level - but name me a league anywhere in the world where that's the case now. Historically, earliest amateur leagues and communist-era maybe, but even then clubs were favoured by army or state police in other ways.

Wow, shit just got real. Gossip central.
Sorry, but how is any of that legit?

Think the Woolston Club owns garrick; & think tech have a couple of tech people on the board there.

If we were handing out vouchers for $? worth of petrol, this does mean that big money (wherever it came from) is being spent on one team at the expense of others. One rumour was that a player was on $350 a game plus a goal bonus, which could be almost $10k a year. Not a bad little extra to not declare on your end of year tax return. Yes Tech are really good at getting funding, sometimes being able to do it as a number of different football clubs!
I let my guitar speak for me
Vim I take it your not a Tech person .
Talking about rumours as u say ur club are very sterile , so there is obviously no truth that when a certain Irish lad wasn't happy at Coastal he was persuaded with an incentive to stay.
Also a certain striker who was looking to leave was given a package to stay and reach 100 games.
Also heard that when pro Stuart Kelly was picking between Bay$, ca$h tech and fc he considered a $10 k offer from spirit to coach ressies

What's sight without sound? Love without peace? Copulation without conception?
How much you guys don't know about me. I don't support the EPL as I don't have the Premier League add on to my already enormous Sky bill.
As for those awful rumours about Coastal, I have never heard of any of them, and would go against any other history the club has had. But, never say never! I'll see if I can dig up some juice on it.
I let my guitar speak for me
I'll have a go
1. The only "incentive" was he got made Captain at some point. Left the club for non-football reasons ie: opening a shop in Nelson
2. Package, small package = a night out with Ronaldoknow and Vim
3. Coaching, yes some Coaches get paid. But no not $10K for reserves. That's inaccurate to the point of farcical.
there might be reasons to moan at Coastal but dodgy as F*** payments clearly designed to circumnavigate the Amateur Rules is not one of them. And while I'm at it what other rules can we choose to ignore? 'Cos at the end of the day it's Mainland's fault right?
E's Flat Ah's Flat Too
Cheers Foal so all the facts on here are rumours when coastal but facts when Bays or Tech
