Yer I totally agree.  I have been hassling The Press to update their local sport page on their website and they have said it's all down to resources.  Plenty of resources for a bad news story!

Page 3 special today.

Something must of gone wrong at Futsal too as emails have been sent out to the coaches/organizers

And a special email to Sunday League coaches/managers so I'm guessing something went wrong there too! Not unheard of tho...

yes for Sunday  League
talked to a ref last Saturday who said "no more" for him on Sunday's. Constant stream of abuse from a side he described as "serial offenders". Bit sad really that volunteers throw it in. Having no ref will not make the game better...

Mike Coggian needs to get the Mainland house in order before wielding a big stick at clubs.

How about the chair of the Mainland Football judiciary panel getting a yellow card on Tuesday night.

What would that before? Humm how about for verbal abuse to a ref, because that is what a barrage of back chat to a ref is.

After a rigorous recruitment and selection process Canterbury United are pleased to announce that Sean Devine has accepted the role of Canterbury United Head Coach - ASB Premiership.
Devine has had an extensive professional playing and coaching career. He played professionally for 15 years with lengthy stints
at Wycombe Wanderers and Exeter City. After emigrating to New Zealand and a two year period at the NZ Knights, Sean started his coaching career at respectively Metro FC and Manurewa FC in the highly rated Northern Premier League. Recently
Sean was one of Keith Braithwaite's Assistant Coaches for Canterbury United in the ASB Premiership season 2013-2014.
Sean says"I'm delighted to be appointed to this role, it will be a challenging position but I am looking forward to build further on what Keith has built up over the last 5 years.
"My first priority will be to appoint a coaching and management team toallow us all to commence the planning and preparation for the upcoming ASB Premiership season 2014-2015. From there we will work on retaining many players from last years squad plus look for additional players where required."

He says "One area we really want to tap into is the experience of the senior players whereby we form a Leadership playing group
who will be able to assist the Coaching team in many ways. Another area I want to observe and learn from is other elite sports in Christchurch such as the Canterbury Cavaliers Hockey team and Canterbury Rugby ITM set up. I believe we can become better if open up to learn from others”

Roger Georgieff Canterbury United Board Chairman says "We're delighted to appoint someone with Sean's background to the position
of Head Coach and we hope to add a strong and vibrant coaching and management team, including a new position of Strength and Conditioning Trainer, to the side. Whilst we were disappointed to lose an outstanding coach in Keith Braithwaite we are really confident that Sean's recruitmentwill place Canterbury United in a formidable position to challenge for ASB Premiership success.

Mainland has never really given a damn for CSSL anyways, have they? Black sheep of the family and all that. Paying a 1/3 sub to be involved etc

If all CSSL "clubs" were to contribute same as every other and stick to the same rules they might be taken more seriously. Until then it is seen as pretty much a bunch of freeloaders. Same up & down the country.

Fact of the matter is that Sunday League has been run successfully for many years without the need for Mainland. Only since they were forced with being banned from CCC parks have we come under the Mainland banner.  If a league can operate well by volunteers and not have a need for all the extras that Mainland put in, why is that an issue? Especially with all the previous comments about Mainland's $800k for staff and other gripes we all have with the way they run things...

We do get our moneys worth out of the tribunal tho.  :-)

Perhaps all the clubs should run their under 8's or even upto under 11's on Sunday mornings as a separate entities and save a shitload on NZF/MF/CU/Competition Fees. Heck - they could even manage & publish scores. Too extreme?

Great as it was not needing CCC groundsor input from Mainland [CFA} in the days gone by for SSL games.
Air Nz, Firestone, Woolston Foundry, Hornby High, University oval and Paparua just to name a few grounds used.

Its got really tight near the top of the table. But what I found really interesting was that Mid Canterbury Defaulted their game v Hornby this week.  How does that even happen in this sort of grade?

Despite the default by mid Canterbury fc2011 are still at the bottom of div 1 and at risk of relegation to div2! This on top of the junior exodus - all is not well at avonhead park.

Mike Coggan's presentation at the Mainland AGM was interesting in that it showed a steady decrease in player numbers in this region over the past 5 years. The drop was primarily attributable to the larger clubs - smaller clubs and out of Christchurch clubs (Selwyn and Waimak) showed growth in most cases.

It went unsaid but there appears to be a link between the creation of  a number of 'super clubs' and the decline in player numbers. There are obviously other factors at play as well but it is still a link worth pondering.

Where these two things come together is the real damage the failure of one of these big clubs can and will do to football in Christchurch - I hope they get there act together soon.

Re the Coastal player are you referring to Rian Hooper who is just back from his college in the USA, not played this season as yet.

Picking up on some of the Div 1 posts a page or two back....this weekend sees the last of the first round games, with FC20 sitting bottom on GD and playing away to the experienced cashmere turtles who sit 3rd but just 1 point off top. A loss by fc will see them needing a turnaround in the final 7 games to avoid relegation to the 3rd or 4th tier of football in Chch (depending on whether you think Reserves sits above Div 2).

At the top, Chch Utd should take 3 from parklands to remain 1st at the halfway point; with Waimak likely to remain 2nd on goal diff when they take on hornby.

On paper - none of the current standings should change over this weekend - except for a bigger gap opening up for the bottom 3 teams.

After the Selwyn FC2011 game earlier this season, the FC coach was speaking and said that out of the 40 players in the top squads last season, they have 4 remaining.  That will rip a massive hole in any club anywhere.  They need to do their best to stay in Div1 this season, no matter what, and spend then next few seasons working their way back.

Bizarre, wonder what's going in there....As an FC20 man though it gives me hope the relegation battle may be easier than we thought!
