wow surprising. any reasons given? coaching? cost?

Not surprising and DEFINITELY related to the coaching/programme, and as a knock on, the cost. Not sure if 11 is the number, but it is a

significant number. Mainland need to wake up and stop taking people's money under false pretences. For a so called " high

quality " programme it's a joke. Someone on this thread mentioned kids subsidising adults wages, and I reckon that's spot on.

All FTC does is buy you a ticket to the big table: i.e. NTC, Canterbury selection. If clubs can get their own academies going they'll

knock Mainland right out of the picture, which is all they're worried about anyway, hence the ridiculous wrangling between them,

APFA, and now Burnley. All they want is to maintain their current position as the organisation with the biggest slice of the pie...

pathetic...

Is Tony Gumley the 15s coach?

Need to be clear here: of the 'so-called XI' players, were they all actually selected and said no, or were some of them not offered a spot?

Any program (club, private provider, federation) is always subject to the value equation (ie price x perceived quality). Key word there is PERCEIVED. Every player and his/her parents/coaches/clubs/neighbour's auntie's dog will have a view on the qaulity of the program and the people delivering it.

As to club academies knocking Mainland's off, well there are a few around now - i think FC20, Coastal, Waimak, Cashmere all offer in-house stuff that is additional to the 1-2 night team contacts (and now Selwyn, Nomads too pending Burnley); and the value equation applies there too.

er, well, yes, um, maybe, no, phew, could be....

Does Chch need 3x Academies

If so, is it realistic to expect the very best to all be at the same facility?

Once we start charging to train we immediately  limit the available players

Once any of us gather revenue from training kids other factors come into play

Mainland are offering a lot of really good things with this years FTC, and the rates charged is neither exorbitant or a waste. I understand arguments about "value for money" but with both comparable competition it's dirt cheap in actual $ outlay terms.

Totally agree the FTC system should be club based, this will still take a few years to get there. But where we were the SOF disaster things are 100  x  better and if people work together as opposed to lining their own pockets more improvements will be made.

FWIW I have some group listings and 1 stands out as absolutely  A+

I'd pay 3x as much to get into that line-up. Unquestionably FTC was highly successful for my kids last year, and on paper this 2013 season looks better again.

I remain optimistic FTC and Mainland will deliver better football to more kids this season. IMO a bigger push has to go the clubs, send and accommodate Div 1 Club Coaches at FTC so "knowledge transfer" may occur.

Stretford

if we are talking 15's Boys I know of 3 who are picked but declined.

It's a massive call to say x amount of players pulled out for the same reason

If I lived in Kaiapoi I'd look at Burnley with some seriousness simply due to logisitcs.

Love to know reason: cost? transport issues? coach quality? last year so bad and don't believe the promise? local club offering good alternative.

Reality is for anyone saying 'no' any or all of these things may apply.

Isn't it GREAT though that more kids want to play more football more often ?!

Huge turnaround in the preseason tournament tonight. Coastal B beat Halswell 3-1 and Western beat Bays 3-0.

Western looked like a different team from last week and could've won by more were it not for some smart saves by the Bays keeper and the woodwork. Amazing how things can change in a week. The results tonight mean all the teams in this group are on 3 points, Coastal and Western now with a positive goal difference. All to play for next week.

for sure, as Gings  said a few pages back the idea is to get every keen kid into training. However this becomes less of a priority when we have an economic interest in coaching.

Parents also get baffled with bullshark. And most people are suseptible to fashion, trend, peer pressure.

Expect to see a clearance for Tom Schwarz twin brother in the next while. Just arrived into NZ last few days and most likely playing at Cash Tech. Canterbury Utd also very interested

nike cup: well done cashmere tech who beat western suburbs in wellington today, 2-1 in extra time. They play winner of this weekend's northern conf. final series in hamiltron (btwn wanderers from waibop i think, waitakere and onehunga sports, who are WYNRS in disguise).

Oh, so their academy can play in a NZF run competition? Same rules for all?

FIFA Youth Cup, Switzerland As you can see from this link, W. Rufer has connections. WYNRS competing against some serious clubs - at U20 level i think.

Correct, dual rego is for MPL, PDL & Div 1 (if you're at a club outside of MPL). Its designed to keep the school 1st XIs somewhat competitive nationwide and keep the clubs happy. Doesn't really work IMO

Hey Gings, what's your read on this situation: young lad registers for school (probably play first XI) and Mainland have allowed him to register for club (but no way he will play PDL for that club); so that he can play Nike Cup for that club Feb 2014. Legit? Dodgy?

I hope Mainland are keeping an eye on the Nike Cup squads and enforcing the rules for once. I can see a Nike Cup player transferring to school team but not sure whether it's a dual reg or not.  Time will tell.

Stretford that to me sounds a tad dodge. But at the same time given how some clubs seem to have a bigger squad in the treatment room than in PDL maybe his chance would come. By the letter of the law as long as he is registered to the club he is eligible - also opens up tsunami as another chance.

I'm guessing its St Bedes given they're the only school to have done transfers thus far?

that's ridiculous.

You played for whatever side in Nike, you play for that club in 2013

No exceptions. Where is this exception for PDL come from??

Now that would be a good question for Coggan/Stewart during one of their upcoming meet the clubs road trip.

I think its more a way of them being tied to a club while playing school or vice versa

example: kid plays for St Bedes But is dual rego'd to coastal - he could play PDL. but doesnt have to. Because of the dual rego he is able to play nike cup for Coastal in 2014.

...or thats how I read the rules...

It shouldn't really correlate as Nike Cup is a wee way off PDL.  In your hypothetical/real situation it won't happen due to being too old for Nike Cup in 2014.

I'm not saying they'd play PDL (lets be honest theres very few U/14 or 15s who get even close to it) - I'm saying its a way of abusing the dual rego system

I think pre-season results tonight were Western 4-1 v Coastal Youth and FC20 climbed back to 3-3 v Nomads after being down 2 nil.

So if I've got it right (and i may not!), the semis are Cashmere v Halswell and Coastal v Western

4th-8th would be FC20 v Bays and Nomads v Coastal Youth

Not sure which games on Sat, which on Sun.

Can anyone confirm this?

Heaps close games all round to be fair.

So on Satdy it's Cashmere vs Halswell and Coastal Spirit Black vs Western in the semis.
On Sunday it's Nomads vs Coastal Spirit White and FC 2011 vs Ferrymead Bays for 5-8.
All at English Park too so should be a good wknd of football.

Allegedly FC2011 scored in the last second with the keeper up there to draw 3-3. Otherwise would have changed the whole tables.

Wow.

$202K to Cashmere for repairing drainage at Garrick - 2 senior and 1 intermediate pitch

$143.5K to FC20 for lights on #2 at Avonhead

Canty EQ Appeal trust - grants

I'm sure all of that will go towards the repairs as Tech dont pay players

Yes they did last kick.

Nomads dominated 1st half shoul've been 4 up at half time after two easy chances missed. A free kick for Nomads 3rd to equal any of Aaron Claphams.

Times for Sunday games are changed a bit {Nomads v Coastal 10 or 11am] because of Cant youth 2pm KO.

Tech beat Halswell on penalties after a goal-less draw, and Coastal Black lost to Western 2-0.  So final being Tech and Western, 3rd vs 4th Coastal and Halswell.

Tech to win as will Halswell and Coastal White.

Bays will smash Nomads in that game.

I'll go Tech, Coastal, Bays, Coastal.  Been a good tourney so far with teams able to mix and match. Shame no Chch Utd considering they have 2 teams in the Waimak Tourney.

No stand-down for the Canty Utd players in the MPL apparently, all available from round one. I couldn't work out why that wasn't the case last year but have been told it was because the CU season went on longer due to Auck and Waitak in the O-League. So should be a fantastic league from the get-go, and it all starts in 11 days!
