Several "Halligan out" posters at the bays game yesterday. Poor result for the lads

Danny Halligan should be playing rather than coaching perhaps.

He was great in the Ben Sigmund All Stars game at Garrick Park on Sunday.

One of the slimmest and fittest looking 51 year-olds I've ever seen.

He looked 18 at the end of his playing days and still does...

He of course was very successful initially as coach of Canterbury United over a decade ago but then things went completely pear-shaped.

(Unlike Danny himself who's more like a carrot in terms of hair colour and body shape...)

Christchurch  lad Geoff MacIntyre played for Western Pride against the All Whites yesterday.

Seems he likes Western in a team name.

Here's the latest picks. Scottie Rd tried to pick up double points submitting twice. It's a bloody good idea I need all the help I can get.

interesting plays on today's games and picks.

Only person to pick FC2011 to win: Fuego

Only person to pick a draw between Coastal and Halswell: #12

Only people to pick a draw between Tech and Bays: Big Cheese and Bumblebee

Desperation will do that to you. Jokes aside (and there but for the grace of Pirlo go I), I wouldn't be surprised if fc knock over uni and Vim, you will claw one back on everyone else...maybe.

Couple of noteworthy moves on the transfers page:

1. Long time Tech player Ryan Stanley, son of Paul (from the recently retired 'tech for life' masters team, for those of that vintage) has shifted to Coastal. Was he not getting much game time in the first team?

2. Ben Stroud back to Cashmere for, presumably, the summer break from his US Uni team. Ben went to Missouri State after a stint at the Phoenix academy.

3. Kieran Pinkney from Cashmere to Selwyn. From memory Kieran is a Halswell junior, very skillful player too. Good fit with the Selwyn playing ethos I imagine.

Results: Cashmere Tech 2 Bays 1; Coastal 3 Halswell 0 ; FC Twenty 4 Universities 2

Selwyn beat Chch Utd at a very wet Yaldhurst pitch 4-1. They finished with 9 men after 2 red cards. One for a kick out at the keeper and one for pushing over Dan Ede as last man.

Dan Terris and Michael White sent off for Cashmere I hear?

Yes Michael sent off after around 10 minutes and Dan Terris early in the second half with Tech holding on for a gritty win.

That could be ChCh United season done and dusted then.

It could be the last season for a while we see a competitive senior team playing under the Christchurch United name. Watch this space.

so just over half way through the season and 4 points separating the bottom 5 teams, can't recall a season like it, not in recent times anyway.

If that one person was really smart they would have made it double points for picking a winner when everyone else missed ..... just saying.

Actually double points for the final round would make it more interesting :)

I coach a young side for Waimak and today I received this...

"We are being audited by Mainland Football and are required to send in all teamsheets for all grades for Saturday May 14th.

We appear to be missing the Men's Reserves, Division 5, Division 6, Over 45's Legends, O45's Vikings, 13th grade girls Black, 10th grade girls Red, 14th grade black, 13th grade red, 12th grade yellow, 12th grade white, 12th grade blue, 11th grade red, 11th grade black, 11th grade white, 11th grade girls grey, 10th grade black, 9th grade blue, 9th grade grey"

Do Mainland Football not enough to do, so they will be auditing an 8/9 year olds grade to fill in their time???
