Let's be fair. The most successful club, and the best club usually get the lions share of attention/interest (see crowd numbers at last weeks game) and you guys have won more than anyone else, so between us, it does rather mean the spotlight will be on us more than others. It's not JUST about us but what will be will be.

You can ascertain what your opponent is afraid of by observing the means by which he attempts to frighten you

Here are this weeks picks, with only one person in each game picking a different result to the masses. They are:

Dan Ede picking a draw between Coastal and FC 2011 (foolish) :-)

Big Cheese picking a draw between Cashmere and Western (???????)

Foal30 picking a draw between Nelson and Halswell

Scottie Rd picking a draw between Bays and Uni

After today's results in MPL and also looking at CCL table and how far ahead the top 2 are I firmly believe Mainland football need to have them both in MPL league. Watched nomads on few occasions and selwyn once that was against tech last week. They easily both compete in MPL both halswell and western have floated with relegation in last few years maybe it worth having 2 up 2 down this year.

Ok promote the top 2 then I'd have no problem with that would be even better

Stats/Milestones after todays round.

Michael White now heads the most MPL hat-tricks with 9, one more than Gareth Turnbull

After scoring their 500th goal last round Western conceded their 400th goal today

That's not going to happen, i.e. you do not change the rules 2/3 into the season.

Also do not forgot that it is the Mainland Premier League, and there are qualifying leagues in both Nelson and Marlborough region of the Mainland Federation.

Agreed. A couple more yellow cards (possibly a red for kicking out at a player post tackle) would have done it. Not the best display from Mario towards the referee today

How so?

As much as Coastal were poor FC were worse.

Effort counts for 0 if you don't score unfortunately.

There were only 2 things worse, the state of the pitch and that friggin easterly.

There is little factual evidence to support your belief from past seasons guys. Tell me which clubs currently or recently in the MPL through promotion out of Div1 have not sat in the bottom 4 the year after they were promoted?

Whereas there is a heap of evidence supporting the reduction to 10 teams which is why that happened in the first place. Bide your time, work hard and all will be well in due course. Oh and stay humble :)

Disagree, one off games Nomads Selwyn would compete but in the grind of 21 game MPL they will be no better off. I watched Nomads and Selwyn in a league game earlier in the year, didn't do much for me, Looking like FC will be the first promoted team to not go straight back down after promotion in a few years. There is no way near enough depth in Chch football for 10 teams, it is struggling with 8 as it is.

Tim Tam Kiwifan Why further dilute the standard of the league with 10 teams. It needs to be strengthened by playing good opposition each week. Why not follow a previously tried and tested model and make the top division a travelling league? Little representation from the SI in the All Whites last night! Regional rivalry can only improve the standard of football.

Sorry World Cup Willie, some on here think improving a league means waiting for the Waimak and Selwyn tweenagers to catch up to make the very average standard of the league suddenly shiny and lovely. (If you aren't an avid reader of the WPL thread, I've proposed exactly the same idea - a traveling league - only the need is more urgent in the womens game).

GG Mooting an idea on this forum is not a claim of ownership of the idea! A number of clubs have wished for a travelling league to be reformed since its dissolution in 1998 (from memory). However, without the backing and ownership of the travelling league by the governing body (salaried staff vs volunteers) this is unlikely to happen! Unless said clubs “EPL” it on their own! Although light at the end of a tunnel?

Incorrect comment, who is "everyone" ? no one at Halswell has any hatred towards Selwyn, in fact good luck to them, all the hatred seems to been coming back the other way

Any South Island league will be down to what clubs can find the money to be a part of one.

The big blocking vote has been Football South getting off there jackseys and putiing some ground work in with their clubs.

Mainland staff have been asking for meetings to get some ground work done. No point wasting time and money if Southern clubs don't want it or as in Cavershams case may not be able to afford to be in a SI comp.

Until we get an SIL we need to make the MPL stronger than four good teams and three or four also rans.

Saturday game. Nomads 2 goals down v Chch U with 10 mins to play. Win 3-2. Even Enguurland would'nt give up that lead in such a short time frame.

Nomads have been riding the lucky train for the last several weeks. Playing crap and still getting it done over very weak sides. I'm sure the Nomads 19s are playing a better brand of football and scoring goals.

CCL is between Nomads and Selwyn not giving up points to the lesser teams.

Mate I'm all for a SI league, however its a cost issue. Apart from tech and bays, possibly coastal could afford the associated costs. Till its either subsided or we have a genuine sponsor then its just not viable. A SI league would need at least 8 teams and as I said I'm not sure financially the majority could sustain this. Its a shame as I played a lot of SI league football and absolutely loved it and the standard was good also. As it sits you could genuinely put together a decent side with players who are not playing MPL @ tech due to the overload of players there and those on the cusp of say coastal, fc and uni. Personally I would rather see this than young players good enough sitting on the sidelines or playing ressies because the club they are at has far too much quality, it does nothing for development in my opinion. What about the idea of Mainland introducing loan transfers, that's one way to possibly solve the player spread issue

A SI league may be closer than some think. The National League (formerly the ASB) licences are for only two years and then no guarantee there with be a national league after the 2017/18 summer. If my information is correct then at least half of the existing National League clubs are really struggling to find the $ for the entry fee with several still in arears from last season.

Also understand that there is more interest from clubs in the FootballSouth Federation now than has been in the past for a combined league.

Sorry to read in Western's program that their keep Jimmy Hinton may be out for the rest of the season with a lacerated kidney sustained when playing. Hopefully it is a speedy recovery for Jimmy.
