Well done Nomads, fully deserved the win. Experience showed today totally and with more punch in their game than ours and a whole load more bite in every aspect. Good luck for rest of season.

Depending on Uni's result, I've done well considering everyone screwed up on the Utd v Waimak game

I'm not sure there is any understanding of humbleness, a lot of huffing and puffing then no respect shown. I've never once heard anything positive following a poor result. If your wanting to be a big player talking the talk then humility and respect has to be given or you'll get nothing in return. Well done Tech and Uni on their results today

Congratulations to Universities reaching the final 16 in the Chatham Cup for the first time.

Permalink Permalink
over 9 years ago · edited about 5 years ago · History

Fifth time in the last five years at Cashmere Technical have made the final 16. Not the same drama as the recent MPL but in the end Tech took their chances and Coastal only has limited chances to score.

Interesting couple of selections in the starting 11 for Coastal with Zac playing in the in the midfield, great to see coaches thinking outside the box, and the recent signing from FC - Evandro.

Would have been interesting if Coastal had taken out the tie as I do not think Evandro meets the rules for the Chatham Cup re the numbers of days since transferring, but I may be wrong.

Is the next round of Chatham cup open draw? Seems some of the reports suggest it will be an all chch affair which suggests not such an open draw

The graphic on NZ football website shows an open draw for all 4 South Island teams.

If it is 'open' it would only be 'open' to the remaining South Island sides going by recent history of the draw. The last three years the remaining two Mainland clubs and the remaining two Football South sides have been drawn together.

Here are an extract of the Chatty Cup rules:

4.3 The draw for the rounds involving 32 and 16 teams (Rounds 3 and 4) shall so far is practicable have due regard for the costs of travel for participating teams, and desirability of promoting matches of such importance throughout New Zealand in order to maximise local and community involvement. For clarity the practical application of this regulation means that teams from within Regional Associations 1, 2 and 3 could be drawn against each other, as could teams from Federations 3 and 4, 4 and 5, and 6 and 7.

4.4 The competition will become an open draw from the quarter final stage with teams being required to travel, at their cost, throughout New Zealand.

I like the very last statement. The Australian equivalent takes care of all cost associate with travel etc from the last 32 on.

HOLY testicle Tuesday! Can you believe it. We get our rematch !!! Come one come all. Hopefully our numbers will be doubled. It was awesome to see players from other clubs jump on the beat Ca$h Tech bandwagon and joining the train last game. Be great to see more members from other clubs link arms.

P.S I hope this is not an example of celebrating prematurely? The train is just super excited. Is that ok?

On a side note, much love to Tech Captain #5 we were giving him banter for a good 20 mins straight and he gave it back with some quality responses haha I actually think he loved it and made him play better. Might make fun of #11's right foot instead :O

Or is that too disrespectful Broonie? hahahaha LET US PARTY

Much love to Nelson!! Gave us our own area, discounted booze and even asked what beer we wanted available before we went up. Absolutely brilliant. Their coach is hilarious. We gave them lots of our $$ in return. Love it how we are starting to feel welcome.

Wish Tech were the same, but no, they will just continue to try squash us and treat what we got going on like poo cause thats what they do. Been on the top too long. Big fish in a little pond.... You think megaphones are OK at Garrick?

I would never step foot in their clubrooms after what I heard went on in the end of match after the last game. SHAMBLES

Just cause we got something they dont?

We were pretty quite wernt we, I thought thats what you wanted? On the camera? I was too busy watching the game. Was a game of very few chances wasnt it. Close affair would you agree? Mike White fouled our keeper on the first goal leaning into our GK. Then 2nd goal was master class Clapham to Siggy to Whitey. Tough to live with it. It was men against boys out there unfortunately. You guys know how to get away with SO MUCH. Centrebacks hands on the back is absolute sneaky class. Felliani gets pinged... So should they. Shawn Obriens shirt LITERALLY ripped in half and had to be replaced.... No foul...? haha

Was the first time I have seen us create so little in the first half but didnt give away too much. 2nd half we were playing all the footy knocking on the door for 45 minutes but struggled with the final pass.

What a COMPLETELY different team Tech are without Clapham on the pitch OMG. Talk about a one man team haha he brings so much. I heard he might not be playing next year? Sounds pretty mouthwatering to me. Some really old timers in there and the only young lads you seem to play are in USA....? Terris hamstrings looking more dodgy everytime I see him... Baldy up front is what 37 I was told? Surely the club cant justify flying siggy in all next season too after being outplayed? Ill be patient before i dish it all back to you. Enjoy the high times.

I didnt go to the aftermatch but im sure the Messiah was very humble and wished you guys the best of luck as always? There were constant smart remarks by yourself and the MC AGAIN though from what some friends told me?

Is it standard practice to have the main games speeches last?

Messiah said he had a number Tech board members he knows apologize to him for the attitude from Tech in the speeches as they explained thats not what they are about.... Nice to know there are some good people behind the scenes atleast. Def not humble.

Well done to the Tech players showing their individual brilliance when you needed it. Hopefully we can continue our league form. Uni will be tough this round and keen to spoil our party.

I felt Nelson were a better team the you guys. You playing up there without Clapham? Interesting.... very interesting

Why keep banging on about the age / experience of your opposition, it up to each club to decide who to play, Tech have a few young lads in their squad that have played and scored this season, Sho and Lyle are still at high school and I think their are other as well.

What this the issue with young players playing in the USA college system, plenty of the Coastal ladies have been doing this in recent years with plenty of success.

Heard the Messiah on the radio is saying his squad is young and inexperienced yet guys like Macca, Nicol, Bush, Ashton, O'Brien and Spain would have clocked up a few MPL games most must be well over 100 games each now.

Football is a simple game, the team that scores the most goals in a game wins and the team with the most points at the end of the season wins their league.

Finally I think Steve Ager still holds the record as the oldest player in the MPL.

All those names you mentioned prob have an average age of 21

That Tech lineup, (Which is the strongest Tech team I have ever seen player for player) is clocked up thousands of games more. Im not talking MPL, half of them players have played at a good level around the world and UK.

Yeah we choose who we play but there are not many talented experienced player around. I think just one player over 30 whos been around the block would make a big difference for us.

Yeah Ive noticed Tech playing USA players over his homegrown youth.... I think thats odd considering there are some big shoes to fill at that club in the coming years.

Train, there is no question your a passionate supporter of your club and that's great. However I'm really struggling to see the point of your long winded rant, apart from sour grapes and a tinge of jealousy perhaps..

Perhaps your CB's need to be smart footballers, tug of the shirt, sly hand in the back and being able to do so in a way its not noticed is what separates very good experienced players from young naive pups. If your getting your shirt pulled, give it back! Standing around moaning like primadonnas will gain you nothing, get on with it and play.. As for a GK getting fouled then he's a bit on the soft side to let an attacking player get anywhere near him and walk away!

now I know where the loco in locomotive comes from,

So just a wee history lesson ,as you say you don't come to the clubrooms at Garrick, I know your  Messiah has filled you in. Maybe not quite it all.

So your last coach quite frequently would slag us in his speech, he even did in French once. He slagged me, slagged our club, the way we play, he did contradict himself once by saying were crap but should be playing in the a-league in the same sentence. But would need a better coach, I did enjoy that jibe to be fair.

The old, sorry young school, messiah is no angel either when offering an opinion or 3 . Since you have put it in text on a few things, i'll enlighten you. By all means Tech and I are no angels either and yes our mc did have a wee quip, but not in the hanging variety , he was a New Brighton and Rangers man and he got treated badly in his last stint at Coastal Spirit , so he probably had a wee barb back.

So the Mesiah said I had smart remarks, i'll give you a run down of my speech. I've been known to say a few things to refs in the heat of the moment and 99% of the time afterwards i regret it. I've never criticised a ref in a speech, I always thank them like I did on Saturday, I always say good luck to the opposition, which I did. I even slagged myself off a bit by saying that like the Chatham cup final, a few years back, instead of going out to kill the game off like I wanted  the players backed themselves defensively and soaked up the pressure. After all  it is about the players, not about coaches getting in the way of thier feel for a game, on the pitch .I also said that Danny our, 23 year old gk didn't have any clear cut chances to save, mainly due to the outstanding work in front of him. Although he did handle everything including marshalling the lads in front of him superbly

The Messiah did mention one of my players, and said he had a quiet game , like you mentioned above, and he was giving the motm to the player that marked Siggy. I thought Siggy was outstanding and has been a breath of fresh air, for the whole region, he pressed and harassed and won a lot of ball for us to move forward with, maybe as you seem to point out a lot, i see the game completely differently.

He was my motm, it's up to the opposition coach if he wants to talk about opposition players in a negative way publicly, most of the coaches I've came up against would'nt

So if you can confer with the Messiah and let me know what exactly my Smart  remarks were.

You obviously seem to know a lot about Coastal, being so close to a higher being. You also know a lot about Tech, more than I know with a few opinions above. Now nobody knows how much a player Claps is to Tech or Canterbury than I do, not only his ability but his on field leadership his off field leadership and his professionalism, in fact for the life of me I can't understand how he is not still an All White. I will defend the rest of my squad , when you say we are a one man team and whithout him we are rubbish or words to that effect. We are certainly a better team with him, but without him or any player in the team we have proven results to say we do ok. When Ac wasn't playing we were 1 point ahead at the top of the league, and had a good 2-0 & 1-0 victory over our closet rivals , your good selfs and our very good friends and rivals Nelson.

We also won a Chatham Cup without him and won one with him where he was outstanding in the final, so to back my squad we can cope with a player or two being missing no matter how good they are.

If you look at the squad last year  at the experience we lost, Ash Wellborn, Julian Collett, Shawn OBrien, Jeremy Wild and one of Techs greatest ever players Nick Wortelboer. It's a real compliment to say the current crop are the best ever, but again I don't how credible your football nouse is.

You say we are ageing , aren't we all. We will have attrition, but don't we all. Even Coastal have added plenty, eight to 12 players from other clubs this year, and good on you'se, your having a good year and in with a shout for the title. The problem I have with yourself and  some at your club, is you celebrate your success by slagging Tech, as I've said many a time I couldn't give 5 bellies, and I've got some to give, about what you say about me. But I will stand strong and bat for my club and players when you say we are a one man team we are full of has beens, we buy everything that moves and don't promote young players

As for our State side players Ben has been with the squad for 2 years and we will welcome him back next year, Oscar 4 years and we'll welcome him back next year. They show at training and the squad that they are hungry for the team and club and have been loyal to me and the club since they joined us. No different from you guys bolstering your squad with 2 players just recently. It's senior football I think.

When we lost Dan T, very experienced, young Oscar came on and was excellant same as Ben Stroud in the Bays game.

I've nearly finished el Loco, last little bit, and these are guesses because I don't care much for age I care more about performances.

Danny K 23, Tom & Dan S 25, Oscar 19, Gary 25, Jordan 22, Claps 29,Whitey 28, Roddy 19, Barty 24, Liam 27.Sho 18

Ben Stroud 18, Lyle 17, Simon Chretien 17., Jayden 21, Paddy 26, Byron 16, Max 15, Max C 15, Ben Howes 23, Jordan Spain 16

Now the 30 lads

Danny Boys 30,Dan Terris 34,Stu 34, Siggy 35.

These are all the lads that have played for the first team this year if you look at how well ,as you said above ,that these 4 over 30 lads are playing, including the baldy one. Then how good is Claps going to be when he's 34. The twins have been outstanding, another 10 years, I could go on for every one by I've got a sore finger from typing with my one finger. Hopefully a lot of these lads have a higher calling, and hopefully the same at Coastal.

Of course some will move on due to lack of game time like has happened the last 4 years, but the reserves are doing well, have  won the league 4 years in a trot with a young age bracket, and Brando is doing a fantastic job with this bunch. With 4 of them away this weekend with the  NZ football camp. The next generation down have got the perfect role model and mentor to get them to the next step, in Claps.

Just like they do at Coastal, believe or not I have tremendous respect for a lot of good people at your club, and some like yourself I don't. But again I don't know who you are?

And as I have said before I will be one of the first to say well done well played and congratulations when we get beat in a game a cup tie or for the tiltle, by any team.

You said above about you were answering my question , you didn't. Did you manage to get the Megaphone into Garrck?
