Top of the table clash in the CPL, with 2nd placed Halswell hosting leader's Christchurch United U20 Academy.
Season defining game for the Hawks as defeat means their title hopes would be dashed and also likely to slip out of the top two for the first time since Round 3, way back in early April, they have the bye in the following round.
Round 20 fixtures all Saturday 23 August.
Midday Cashmere Technical Res. Universities of Canterbury Res. Garrick Memorial Park
2:45PM Burwood vs. Ferrymead Bays Res. - Clare Park Halswell vs. Christchurch United U20 Academy - Halswell Domain Selwyn Res. vs. Nomads Res. - Foster Park Waimak vs. FC Twenty 11 - Kendall Park
Plenty riding on the result of the Round 18 catch-up game tomorrow night at English Park between Halswell and FC Twenty 11. A win or draw for Halswell will see them go back to the top of the table. A win for FC will see then draw level on points with UC, but they would still be at the foot of the table, but it would keep alive their hopes of avoiding the drop, a draw is a minimum, with a loss meaning FC would be consigned to a bottom two finish.
Under the regs this season a team must finish either first or second if they wish to enter the play-offs to qualify for the Southern League for 2026. This change also applies for both the Nelson Premier League and the Southern Premier League.
FC Nelson have been declared winners, based that they were leading after 12 of the 18 rounds, with the final six rounds now unable to be completed due to rain in the Nelson / Tasman regions over the past month. I understand that FC Nelson wish to contest the play-offs.
Northern AFC have secured the title down south. Again I understand Northern wish to contest the play-offs.
Would be a bit strange for a team looking to enter the Southern League, to sign an MOU with a club already in the league??
Safe to assume FC Nelson will not be contesting the promotion playoffs?
Why would you assume FC Nelson will not be contesting the play-offs, based on signing a MOU.coochiee

Seems like FC Nelson are keen, based on this from Halswell in their pre-match post for tonight.
"Bring it on – and remember, after this we have just one league match to go: Western AFC at home on Friday 6th September. That game could decide the league title and whether our journey continues into the Southern League play-offs against FC Nelson!"
Do forget a pathway is two ways. If FC Nelson make the SL maybe United have players on their 'book's that will be sent north to play for FC to gain SL experience, if they cannot break into the United SL squad.coochiee
Because it looks like with the player pathway piece their best young players might be going to ChCh United??
That would be a bit odd if both clubs are in the same comp. But hey it maybe a non issue, and yes FC Nelson are dead keen to be in the Southern League
Round 21 of 22 Fixtures: Saturday 30 August - 2:45PM Burwood vs. Western - Clare Park FC Twenty 11 vs. Ferrymead Bays Res. - Avonhead Park Nomads Res. vs. ChCh United U20 Academy - Tulett Park Waimak vs. Universities of Canterbury Res. - Kendall Park
Wednesday 3 Oct - 7:30PM Cashmere Technical Res. vs. Selwyn Res. - English Park
Selwyn first team down and Selwyn Reserves out leaves the league still at 11 teams. If Halswell finish in the top 2 & win the playoffs, then we would be back at 10. Would that mean that FC get to stay in the CPL?
Can’t see anyone coming up from the CCL. A Selwyn Turkeys looking like winning it & they couldn’t be promoted.

Yeah in that scenario I'd imagine they would just keep FC in there to return to a 10 team league.

The only team still able to be promoted from the CCL would be Coastal Reserves. Third on 31 pts, behind Bays Keen Lads (36) and Selwyn Turkeys (39). Still three games to play in the league, with a round of catch-up games in the next few days, Sep 6 and another round of catch-ups on Sep 13.
After tonight's Canterbury Championship League games, table toppers Selwyn Turkeys defeated Cashmere Technical U20's 2- 0 and 2nd placed Ferrymead Keen Lads defeated 3rd placed Coastal Spirits U20's 3 - 0 so with two rounds to play Selwyn on 42 points, Bays 39 and Coastal stay on 31.

Drama right to end of the title race with Western scoring deep in added time to make it 2 - 2 against Halswell to deny the Hawks the title, which saw Christchurch United U20 Academy take the title by a single point.
Must be FC Twenty11 relegated as well now, with Halswell losing today. Bit rough having to wait all these weeks to see if they stay up. Unless Mainland change something in the off-season that is.
Cannot see any changes from Mainland as all clubs were aware that it is back to 10 team for the Premier League in 2026, so Selwyn drop down from the Southern League, meaning Selwyn Reserves will have to drop down the Championship League, along with FC Twenty 11.CPL Bingo

So they drop down to the Championship which was won by Selwyn Turkeys?

Yes, and Selwyn Turkeys cannot be promoted because Selwyn first team will be in the CPL so they stay in Championship and Selwyn Reserves will also be in the Championship.
Selwyn's first team going up to the Southern League means their reserves have also been promoted to the CPL to replace them. Unsure what happens with UC - whether they have two or three teams in CPL/CCL, and if only two, who fills that gap in the CCL
Not sure what the final make up of CCL will be yet as apparently Oxford have pulled out and from what I've heard, Div 1 champions Cashmere Tech Originals aren't going up either

Will be interesting to see how FC20 go in the CCL this year & whether they can get promoted back to the CPL. Looks like there are two FC20 teams in the CCL this year, firsts and reserves.
I heard Western went down 2-1 to Coastal Reserves yesterday. I think it will be a battle between Halswell & Waimak for promotion, but hard to predict this league with all the reserve teams in there. Will be interesting to see how UC goes as well, the university keeps growing so their player pool keeps getting bigger!
